When I met my first dream guide I was terrified, and ended up running away and creating a church then grabbing a crucifix off the wall and so on. It is freaky and weird and terrifying when the idea of a dream guide external to your self becomes all too real. That is natural! Welcome to the X-files, I guess. Everything about that dream reminds me of things I have seen.
Take the grid lines. The way these being often interact is to create a small enclosed area where they control almost everything because they created it and not you. It is enclosed in a bubble or some such construction of energy and an untrained dreamer will find it impossible to pass the barrier, you would have become confused and got a feeling f becoming entangled in the grid until you backed away. Had you got through you would have been in a different place, but if you intend to interact with the dream guide, just leave the grid alone for now. Too me they appear as power lines or electrified chain link fencing and so on. So that part fits dead on with my experiences.
The man in the suit controlling everything and making you feel as if you needed to escape makes total sense too. These beings often toy with a dreamer they are interested in at first, in order to better judge things like ability to calm yourself, general temperament and so on. Two factors are here. If they created the area, they will have more ability than inside your own dream, and training. The live in a realm that requires the same skills used in dream control, so they will be much better at it than you for years.
The other guy who looked dark. My first dream guide always had two other beings with her. One of them antagonized me for years. The dark figure was probably irritated that the lighter one responded when you called. They may have planned on watching you and so on, but one of them sped up the process and irritated the other.
Finally, the statement "are you in or not?" They have billions of dreamers they could be helping. You are allowed to be fearful, but you are going to need to ASK them to help you, knowing that in doing so, you are giving up some personal rights. Think of it as signing up for boot camp.
