Thread: Talk About Earliest Lucid Dreams

Lets share our early lucid dreams and what they were like. Maybe how it has changed or advice for brand new lucid dreamers.

The first time getting lucid I was walking up stairs in my house but everything was blurry or smoky. I suddenly realized it was a dream. I became dizzy and felt very drunk. I tried to move my arm in front of me but it was hard to move like it was in a heavy liquid. I managed to say out loud "This is a dream." I tried to walk forward but everything closed in around me and then I was awake.

I have probably mentioned it on my introduction or elsewhere, but here it goes. Let's see if I can recall details correctly?

My first lucid dream since I became interested in the topic, came about the time when I first found out about lucid dreaming as a thing, not realising until much later I'd already had some in my childhood. I was reading La Berge's book The World of Lucid Dreaming at the time and trying all sorts of exercises and so on, when I had the chance. At the time I was also on the medication I am on now, which greatly improved my quality of life too.

Can't remember the circumstances exactly now but the first fully lucid dream in my adult life was one of the most important experiences of my life:

I think I was walking or running around the area of a bypass in a location near my home town. That's where I'd go running with friends sometimes. Suddenly I just realised I was dreaming and I did a reality check, counted my fingers and confirming that I was dreaming. All of a sudden everything around me faded into white, I was "nowhere" and just in this white endless space, still standing; I remember getting excited and amazed but making a huge note of the fact that for the first time in my life I felt the absence of pain, feeling relief from a constant noise of pain for the first time since I could remember being alive. I woke up almost immediately afterwards because of the excitement.

My advice to new lucid dreamers would be that you may find yourself trying too hard to chase after lucidity. In the years since that dream, I have only had enough lucid dreams that they can be counted by the fingers on my hands. Trying harder to get to lucidity, for me, has not worked, maybe because I have long-standing issues with sleep and memory that conflict with getting to lucidity. I have learned to accept there are limitations beyond my reasonable control.

As a new lucid dreamer I may have felt impatient and more importantly frustrated by the fact I couldn't dream lucidly as much as I'd like or as much as others on places such as this forum have. And it made me keep a dream journal, at first only to try and find patterns and so on, but my DJ has become pretty important to me even just for all the non-lucid dreams, which are still important experiences, I feel.

All in all, being unable to be lucid hasn't stopped me from using my dreams to deal with fears and learn about myself and different ways of thinking and doing things. Perhaps my current outlook on lucidity, which has little preoccupation with some measure of success, should also be my outlook on my art.

I had a very similar experience in one of my earliest lucids. I was in a local park and stuff looked weird. I looked at my hands and they were all wavy. I realized it was a dream. I tried to stabilize by counting fingers and such. I looked up and everything was gone. It was all white as if my dream ended and I was unable to think of new images. I thought I was in the park so I will look around expecting to see it. Rough outlines of the nearby buildings appeared but it may as well have been a child's drawing. I started walking and things came back sort of. I saw a table with my girlfriend naked and dried flowers all over the table plus a sign that read "Sue 2." Suddenly a bully from high school was there and ran at me and knocked me down and was hurting me. I woke up and for a moment was in pain.

I remember this time as a kid where I was being attacked by two lava beings. Instinctively aware that it was a dream, I would teleport by waking up and then diving back into the dream but from behind them and so on. Bringing it up now, I wonder if I was actually waking and falling asleep so fast or if I was probably just shifting to a false awakening dream.

Still a kid, I remember a dream where I felt very grounded. My mind felt clear. I was in a dark underground maze with sharp glistening cavernous walls. I came upon a woman with dark long hair sitting naked in a shallow elevated pool. She seemed divine. We did not speak. Instead, I observed some of the trinkets scattered in the irregularities of the ledge below her.

My first intentional lucid dream, I was in a field and flew to a carnival where a seal read me a book about Dream Pirate.

I remember the David Bowie Video Collection VHS right in front of me, the dream paused when I realized, for the first time, I was dreaming lucidly. Lasted a few seconds. There was another time, I saw Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming floating in the air in front of me.

My first true LD came to me during my late teens. For background, I, at the time, acquired great intrigued on the subject. However, I made no real effort to pursue it: I was too egotistical to do any practices, I (wrongly) thought that dream journalling was only for "ostentatious writer types", and I had a bunch of distracting interests that kept me occupied.

Anyway, one night, I falsely awakened to the gusts of hurricane-forced winds bearing down on me. Soon, I realized I couldn't move. This wasn't the first time I'd experienced such an episode of sleep paralysis. In fact, my (then) recent curiosity on the subject led me to discover about lucid dreaming, and as such, of transitions from sleep paralysis into lucid dreams.

I waited anxiously for a dream to form, not knowing what to expect. After a minute or so, my surroundings vanished into a void. It was pitch black, but only for a moment, before changing into a spectacle of flowing, colorful, ever-changing lights. It was mesmerizing. When I snapped out of that trance, I gave in to, uh, base urges. Didn't get anywhere with that, not even close. The ongoing frustration eventually collapsed the dream.

I’ve only been actively pursuing lucid dreaming for just under a year but I’ve had a hand full of experiences throughout my life. The first time I can remember I must have been 8 - 10 years old. I was having a nightmare that I can barely remember now but I’m in my old house and hiding behind a sofa from monsters who I believe will hurt me if I’m found. To disguise myself I put a box on my head and then I go out and start mingling with the monsters. At some point the fear slipped away and I just became aware that I was in a dream and had nothing to be frightened about. I then spent the rest of the dream telling the monsters that I’m in a dream. It was a rather pleasant experience in the end and I found great enjoyment telling my friends that I had experienced a dream and knew it was a dream whilst in it. It wasn’t until my late teens that I had my second and learnt what Lucid dreaming was.

Yes! I used to love that book! I can’t remember what the monsters looked like now but at the time I was very into these little monster toys I had that won’t have looked that scary. The box I put on my head was the box I kept them in. Wish I could remember it more vividly. Also funny to see I did what most people do in their first lucids, go around telling the characters it’s a dream!

I had no idea that lucid dreaming existed before my first LD.

That night two years ago I was canoeing down a narrow river when a huge grey hippo rose from the river, blocking it. The hippo spoke to me in a woman's voice, telling me that I could no longer go this way. I flew from the river and up on to the high bank and stood there wide awake in wonderment.

The next morning I googled "waking up in a dream". I have practiced diligently every day (and night) since then.

This is the dream that sparked my Lucid Dream journey!

I was aware of lucid dreaming, and even had experienced a few short ones before this one, but this was different. This was amazing, and even tough this one Is 6 months old and I have had plenty of lucids after this, This one still is stuck around in my memory. I had experienced nothing like it before, and that is likely why it is so important to me. Enjoy!

"I was at an unknown house with my relatives. They showed me some pictures and then a fight broke out with me and my Uncle, we pushed heavy metallic shelves at each other. I decided it was enough, and decided to just leave it and hide somewhere in the house. I found a chair, and went behind it. I heard my relatives come directly to my hiding spot, not checking anywhere else. This sparked a suspicion and I concluded that it is not possible for them to instantly know where i had hid. "

"I became Lucid but I wasn't in control, not in the slightest. Lucidity gave me just a tad bit of control, by stopping the plot. But I couldn't speak or even move. It was like being stuck inside my own body without having control over it, But I didn't allow it to stop me. I gathered all my energy, and tried to scream as hard as I could. It worked, I had conquered my dream body.

"My relatives, tried to stop me from being aware and in control, so they tried to speak louder and louder to mask my scream but with no success, I won, I was aware and I was in control. They realized this and they realized they couldn't do anything else than to accept it. They opened the window of the house and said it is the door to the lucid dream."

"I walked trough the window, and I was greeted with the smell of a rainy forest. I could feel the rain and the wind. I Kneeled and looked at the wet grass and saw how the waterdrops reflected the light outside. It was so amazing, one of the best experiences in my life I thought. It was great, total peace inside my head inside the beautiful dream world."

"I stood up, and continued walking trough the pathway that was on the yard, I found myself at a road crossing and a crossed the road. I saw all the cars, and It was amazingly like real life. All cars, with humans inside, going to their desired places. I couldn't believe it, how can my brain be this powerful? I asked myself. I kept walking, and saw construction workers working on the road, interacting with each other, living their own lives."

"I saw a multistory apartment building at the end of the road, I walked towards it. I got close, and saw the door. I approached the door, I knew what I had in mind. I was going to meet my ex, I guess I still had a thing for her back then. However, It all started to fade away, I had lost balance."

I can't remember my first LD tho, but when you said that you barely move your body parts, i've experienced the same thing (it's usually my head). How i solve the problem is that I'm forcing my body parts to move as hard as i can, after that i can move on my own and start exploring my dream.
