      Why do you Lucid Dream?

I was just thinking about all the different uses that knowing your dreams possesses and i wanted to know what the users of DV's motive(s) behind LDing are. Do you just want to escape to a world that is completely yours where you can do anything you please? Do you look to your dreams to find a deeper, possibly spiritual meaning? Are you trying to learn about yourself from a point of view that would be otherwise impossible to achieve?
Personally i just want to explore/expand my mind, do the unthinkable and find ways to overcome my fears and roadblocks in my day to day life.

Lucid dreaming for me is mostly about just having a fun time. I find it more entertaining than movies and video games. Although stress makes it harder to lucid dream, I believe it can relieve stress from waking life at the same time. I also use it to help me conquer nightmares.

I too relieve stress within my dreams. Lately, my social life has been occupying time and inducing stress, but also preventing me from recalling my dreams let alone get lucid. The stress has been too much lately and that's what has led me to make certain changes and get back into the world of LDing

To expand my creative side, and my intutive skills in my waking life. And besides, lucid dreaming is such a fun hobby to have.
Dreams are meant to be used to create ideas. And hopefully, plant the seed of this idea, to another. Which will help build, a very powerful nation.

I Started LDing because First I started having dream of telekinesis and flying and I wanted to be able to do it every night, then It expanded into exploring my subconscious and getting inspiration for waking life.

      I sure do.

Are you trying to learn about yourself from a point of view that would be otherwise impossible to achieve?
      Yes.

Personally i just want to explore/expand my mind, do the unthinkable and find ways to overcome my fears and roadblocks in my day to day life.
      Me too.

I think you covered everything, Circa, except maybe that LD'ing for me is also a unique tool for consciousness. It is the only thing I've found that can potentially deliver my self-awareness to the "next level," be that a quantum, evolutionary, leap in spirituality, a "full-on" relationship with my unconscious mind, a way to consciously combine the currently discordant resources of my body, mind, and soul, a tool for discovering --and trying out -- new phenomena like thought energy, or perhaps all that at once. Now that I reread your questions, though, I think my "Yes's" were enough!

LD'ing for me has, obviously, enormous potential, both of mind and spirit...provided I can develop the self-awareness, imagination, and focus necessary to both explore those potentials and surf the wave of the change that would accompany the discovery.

Oh, and LD'ing is also a major tool of sleep yoga, which, if mastered, supposedly offers a chance to carry my self-awareness through death and on to other things, which to me is a very cool concept.

...That is, of course, assuming that any of this is even possible, and we're not all just kidding ourselves with a simple, yet very fun dreaming exercise that might amount to nothing!

      Thanks for asking!

True, although a lot of people don't necessarily understand the concept behind lucid dreaming or are not open to the idea of it. At least that's what I've learned.

Sageous, i find great interest in everything you have to say regarding LDing. Sometime i would like to talk to you about your LDing experiences, that is, if you don't mind

I don't know...I lucid dream for all the reasons listed on this page.

I guess when I first started out, I wanted to lucid dream for the adventure. I wanted to do things that were impossible in waking life and go on a journey every single night. It sounded pretty damn awesome. Now, since I am more experienced, I use lucid dreaming for different reasons. Working on different skills (Acting, creativity, etc..), studying, finding out different things about myself, and just for fun.

xD I'm fourteen as well (until Wednesday..) but I hardly ever use lucid dreaming for sex. Well maybe if I see a hot guy...sometimes. I just feel like you can do so many better things in lucid dreams. I don't know. Asking DCs jokes....

In the movie Waking Life it addresses how long our brain stays active after we die, and how this very well may be what happens, not sure If it does but I sure hope it does, I would be one happy dead guy.

I want to explore the nature of reality, consciousness, my own mind, and the collective connection I share with other beings. I want to increase my awareness and be present in every moment. I want to meet and learn from entities beyond my comprehension. Like Sageous said, if possible I want to use these skills to carry my consciousness beyond death ... or least influence my next rebirth.

Gosh, I have to agree with the 14 year old guy. While I do explore consciousness and the nature of reality while meditating; the fact is the sex is just awesome in LD's. I suppose I shall now sit and feel shallow and petty. Oh well. By the way, I didn't think there was any such thing as getting lustful emotions "out of the way" for guys, especially teenage guys (no offense). Good luck with that!

Same here. Ya, I also love to have lucid dream. Lucid dreams are like movies that entertain me.

In terms of a connection with reality, I never quite feel part of reality and even during reality checks it can be difficult to feel that this is the here and now, and not just a mosiac of colours and sounds.

For me lucid dreaming is another experience that I hope to attain, really, I'm really looking forward to my first proper lucid. I often get quite vivid dreams, and they always intrigue me much the same way as any creative process does. I feel that one of my main ambitions in life is to experience as many strange and wonderful things as possible and anything dream-related seems to fall nicely into both categories.
Plus as mentioned above, it's an interesting hobby, and even if most people dismiss it, I generally find open-minded people who are willing to explore such interests to be a better conversation anyway.

To find my dream guide, have sex, see if there's an afterlife or another plane of existence.

      Oh and more sex.

I would post my real reasons in a longer post, but eh.

      Good thread topic!

I would say that I lucid dream primarily to get to know myself some more, explore 'deep issues' I may have and talk to my subconscious. Ofcourse, all this became the focus only after I had my fill of flying around

Well I guess my reason is quite unique here . Any way when I first heard about lucid dreaming it seemed to me like a great use of time that I am usually not even aware of. I thought to myself that I can think about my day in lucid dreams , just think deeply about any topic or even use the time to practice for an upcoming test. Later when I advanced a little I realized how much I am not aware of what happening to me at night. I wanted to lucid dream because I wanted to know what happens to me durning my sleep. It disturbed my that I can't tell what was I thinking or dreaming about as much as it disturbs me that I live in a world where I use a bunch of tools that I can't even understand how they work. It was that passion that got me my first LD. I actually saw myself coming out of myself and forcing myself to understand it is a dream. One time I even filmed myself sleeping in order to see how do I look from the side while sleeping. I must say it was interesting to see that in the early stages I moved and flipped around , but almost 90 minutes after that period you could see how still I was, in an SP or maybe even a dream. Now I practice dream control and I have to admit it is pretty fun . I just like flying around and test this dream world where I can do whatever I want in it .

Of course it's fun and interesting, but my reasons go beyond that. I have had 4 dreams in my life that I would call hyper-lucid. They were more real than my waking life. I don't even know if they were lucid dreams or something else, some other reality. I really want to experience that again.
I have experimented with psychedelics and have gone really deep into myself. In some cases too deep. Things that I learned from those experiences can also be tested in dreams. I want to go farther done the rabbit hole.

So, I guess simply, I want to learn as much as I can about reality. And use that knowledge in my waking life.

I still didn't have my first lucid dream. But I'm trying because I would love to do stuff you're not able to do in real life. I would probably just build a 'second life' there. It's quite funny, years ago I always stayed up late until like 1.00am. Because I didn't wanna go to sleep, but now I always go to bed at 10pm because I really wanna have a lucid dream. :]

I had the one LD were I went flying, and I want to do that again. I guess reality isn't all that it's cracked up to be, and the reasons that I want to LD are just too many to list. Going face to face with the unconscious mind for me would be a motivating factor for sure. My dreams are so illogical that I just want to confront the madness that dwells there, and smack some sense into it. Then again why not enjoy the lunacy. And yes I want to vistit strange new worlds indeed.

I started becoming lucid because of recurring nightmares.

I got into doing it deliberately after I learned dream control.

I got more into it after having so many dreams while going through a divorce.

I became obsessed once I started doing shared dreaming.
