Future City: Part 2, the Tour

Raven and I look around. We are on the top of a strange curving structure. In fact, there are no right angles to be seen in this place.

"We built this city with holographic fractal thinking," says Lila.

"Hmm... what does that mean?" asks Raven. A strange geometric hologram with fractal roots coming out of it floats out of Lila's head, and goes into Raven's third eye. "Oh!"

"In other words, holographic thinking is the part equals the whole. Fractal thinking is getting smaller and smaller, bigger and bigger infinitely in a repeating pattern. The entire city is made of modular robots with AI tuned to the users' brainwaves."

"How do you keep the AI from taking over?" Raven asks.

"Every individual tunes their own AI. Everyone creates their own AI."

"Interesting. So tell me how you built this city holographically."

"Yes. What that means the city itself is patterned after the small modules which are patterned after cells in an organism, and the city itself is like an organism, except the modules are more like single celled organisms, and the city a colony of these, like coral or Portuguese man-o-war. Every individual adult has their own module. Each module is completely self sufficient. Let me show you."

We teleport to Lina's module. It's a floating dome with other domes around it, connected by tubes. The tubes are made of a very strong, very flexible clear material. "This is my module. Everything my mind-body machine needs is here. Here is the eco-dome." We teleport into the eco-dome. "Here I grow plants for food, clothing, oxygen, and medicine. These are fertilized by these fish here."

    "Ah, good protein source."

"Oh, actually we do not eat fish, or any animals anymore. I feed them the plants and worms from, and they create fertilizer. The fish actually can swim in and out freely. And this is the evap chamber, where I separate the salt from the water, so I have freshwater, and sea salt. And then, here is the robot chamber. These robots make my clothes from the plants. They have robots to maintain the robots. And the maintenance robots have nanobots to maintain them."

"Air, water, food, clothing, shelter, and heat, all are provided for me here. The heat comes from the Sun itself. It's so simple. Power is drawn from All, and powers my aircar. This is the basic module which everyone has. With this module you have the freedom of privacy, the freedom to do whatever you want to develop yourself without having to worry about survival!"
This module attaches to other modules. It can be connected like a gear to other modules. Eventually we will build dodecahedron modules. These modules form around families, communities, and eventually make up cities. But, everyone is independent, and money is no longer necessary. We have set up systems in the past to keep creating these modules as efficiently as possible with the goal of improving with and communicating with other species and the Earth itself. We have almost no adult dependence in our society now. Children depend on their parents, but adults do not need to depend on anyone. We have so much free time now for mental, physical, spiritual, social, and other pursuits. We have finally discovered we are the ancient gods.”
