      Hi!
Personally, I would suggest to use this method just as a way to have some fun and experience something different. Long ago I used to push my hand starting from the tip of my fingers, against the material until it slowly started to go through it and then came the rest of the body, it was a little bit tedious and tended to destabilize the dream.
If I want to go to the other side, and there's no connection, door or window that I can easily open (locks never work ), it's easier for me, to draw a portal with my finger on the wall, then push it to open it. The material falls as it was made of Polystyrene. I don't have to wait too much and it works wonders.
