All day long, whether I'm working or doing whatever, I'm oblivious to my surroundings and I unconsciously day dream entire full fledged scenarios and conversations between the "dream" characters in which I play the roles of each of the characters. As it's happening occasionally become aware of the fact that I'm think-talking to myself as different personalities and usually this results in the scenario stopping (although occasionally I passively observe what I'm otherwise unconsciously doing), and then within two or three minutes a new scenario with different personalities and conversations starts up.

I know it's not uncommon or weird to day dream, but when I used to day dream I didn't actually have a conversation with myself as separate personas. Instead, I used to just be doing things and going places and stuff. I'm not really sure when the unconscious role playing really started but it's got me curious as to what's going on below the surface that's resulted in this change.

-When I was a kid I use to have the urge to touch the wall again after I bumped into it or if I touched something with my hand by mistake. Kind of like a small form of ocd.I challenged myself to break the habit in a month and I eventually did though.

-I like people's posts and comments a lot which I know is strange to some but when the thought of me liking it comes up...I cant help but like it.^^"

-I also edit my posts after posting at times because I feel like what I wrote could be written in a better manner, is unconsciously repetitive or I might feel embarrassed but what was said.

-When I was...I think 12, for a small period of time I wanted to be a ghost hunter but those ghost shows ended up scaring me so much I had to stop myself from watching. It wasnt easy though cause I would get curious again over time.

-This isnt a good habit, I have to stop myself many times but I feel relaxed when I bend my ear.Kind of like how in dog yoga they bend the dog's floppy ear softly to relax them. I use to do that to my dog max. So did my old best friend. The weird thing is my dog would do like a purring relaxed sound. I cant really explain it but he wasn't growling aggressively.

-I always imagine myself in a nice relaxing place before bed.

-I hear calming music that sounds like my head voice when i become anxious.

-When I eat apples that are not too sweet and not sour I feel like throwing up. Very greasy foods make me feel nauseous too.

This reminds me of how I used to randomly feel compelled to repeat certain words I'd just said quietly under my breath as a kid because I believed a witch would come and get me if I didn't, and from what I remember I'd never been told anything like this or had heard the idea before, it simply arose of its own accord iirc.

Hehe That's a cute way to keep the witches away. It also sounds like a thing that would be in Harry Potter.^ w ^ I'm curious to know where our young brains get these ideas too though. Their pretty random.

Speaking of which I have never ever even tasted a cigar. I even got offered one in a non-lucid dream and I refused. HOWEVER, I have tasted cannabis once.( I know I'm such a badass now lol)

Sometimes when I visualize something with a lot of moving pieces or action, I start to quickly twist my hands back and forth in a sporadic pattern. Not entirely sure why I do it, but I feel like it helps the visualization. I'm self-conscious about this and suppress the urge to do it, if I'm around people.

If I took the time to think a bit, I could probably come up with quite a few things. First off, I only like the powder of nacho cheese flavored Doritos, so whenever I have them, I lick the powder off and toss the chip. Honestly, to my family, my deep interest in lucid dreaming is something that they find weird. I once told my dad about my most amazing flying experience in an LD and how incredible it felt, and he just looked at me with this "WTF" kind of face. Ha!

I wonder if your mind caused your body to start doing it automatically because the repetitive motion helps stabilize the imagery and the scenario or otherwise helps keep you focused on it. Reminds me of when people kick their legs or repeat other movements because it calms them down inside and stopping usually results in feeling a need to start doing it again or maybe they feel more anxious if they don't. The movement here would work the same way essentially by calming you down or otherwise helping maintain a specific mindstate by preventing thoughts that interfere with the visualization process.

I'm pretty sure there have also been studies done on the effects of dancing (repeating certain movements in a rhythmic fashion) on creating, reinforcing, or maintaining certain mindstates or altered states of consciousness, now that I think about it. Any movement that involves rhythm and is repeated for some length of time is supposed to be able to perform this kind of function, IIRC. I'll post back or edit this post with anything I find about that, gonna search it on google.

Since you're interested, I felt like giving more details about it. If I want to visualize something that's fast/powerful/complicated movement etc. I feel the need to move my hands. If I don't, my visualization is static, just still images. It's easier to get into it and "see" the action in my mind when I move my hands. Sometimes I do the hand movement when I'm excited about something, so I don't always have to visualize stuff.

I also did this in one dream. I was fighting a monster that was growing so big it filled an ocean and healed from any wound I inflicted. I wanted to imagine every single cell in that monster burning and turning into ash at the same time, so there would be nothing to heal. I flew up and focused on this. In that moment, I saw myself in two places: In the air above the monster and floating in a black void doing the hand motion I do in waking life. I was dreaming about doing the hand motion to focus on the visualization of billions of cells burning.

So clearly this is very deeply rooted in my mind, I do it in my sleep!

I observe everything. From a fly cleaning it's wings, to the way the leaf blows from its limb...I observe- that is apparently unusual- weird.

I go through phases of having nails, and biting them off for months at a time. I try really hard to keep them.

Me and my sister were both hospitalized twice each last year, the same thing each time, but different from each other.

Sometimes I daydream as much as I sleep-dream. I want to learn to incorporate my day dreams into my sleep dreams so they're more realistic.

I know this isn't the thread for this, but I figured I should let you know about MDD. It's short for maladaptive daydreaming. Daydreaming is great, it's one of my favourite things. But some times, for some people, myself included, it can become an escape from reality that makes your life a lot more difficult.

It's just nice to know about it. Becoming aware of that pattern and learning what causes it and how to deal with it really helped me grow as a person. I don't want to stop daydreaming it's a huge part of who I am. But I know now what to look out for so that I don't screw myself over by spending too much time disconnected from reality.

I've heard of that, and I might have it, but I haven't been doing it to the point where it really affects my daily life, so I usually don't worry. Also like I said earlier, I'm trying to incorporate my daydreams into my night dreams and maybe I won't find the need to daydream as often. The only problem here is that now I want to sleep all the time
I dream a lot, need not be asleep.

Harnessing daydreaming in dreams, now that's a cool idea!
Nothing wrong with a bit of daydreaming. I feel sorry for the ones who simply cannot daydream (Didn't even know they existed til recently).

Wanna know something weird about me?

March last year I met God. When it happened I stopped eating, drinking and sleeping, and went into my own world. You could call it daydreaming. I was talking to God for 3 days straight and then suddenly my daydreams came to the forefront. i.e. I started hallucinating. It felt like I was getting answers to the most incredible, mind-bending things. And time passed like it was nothing.

Then randomly on the third night I decided to take a walk. I dressed up looking like a hobo and ran out the door. Basically I got found by the police sitting on a roundabout next to Glasgow Airport, talking the biggest load of rubbish. I got put in the loony bin.

It took 3 days of getting sleep and water to take me out of the daydream and back to reality. Well, at least to push the daydream back to the back of my mind, where it belongs.

They call it a psychotic episode, I call it dreaming when awake

My parents and their friends moved to an isolated elevated valley in the 70s and built houses. I was born there. We had kerosene lamps, dirt roads and outhouses. I still visit my best friend there all the time and it’s still quite rustic. The only changes really are that everyone has solar power now. Some of the houses are really nice and it’s very beautiful. It’s like stepped me back in time.

I wipe the excess water off my skin before drying myself up with a towel, so that the towel doesn't get completely soaked.

I sometimes repeat a good part of a song for more than 20 times.

I always think of a fictional movie scene when listening to my favorite songs.
