This year's theme is building our dream base. I know you guys got this!! Plus, you'll receive the coveted rainbow wings if you manage to complete them all in 2022. Good luck!!
The Rules:
- You must complete each task in a separate lucid dream; you can't do more than one in the same dream.
- DILD and DEILD are only permitted for a single ToTY (meaning, only one ToTY per chain of dreams.) You must record your dream in your preferred dream journal (you do not need to come here) before you can work on another ToTY.
- You may do more than one Task per night, as long as the previous dream task is already recorded.
--------------------------------
And here are the tasks!
Build our Dream Base
For this theme, it will be structured a little differently. Members may complete any of the possible tasks below, earning wings for each one up to 7. Each time a task is completed by a member, that particular task is locked out (exception: your personal room). No one else may complete that task, however, you may complete other tasks not finished yet. If all tasks have been completed, members may still earn their wings by completing tasks with their own ideas for base pieces.
Let’s work together to build our dream base. Below are 20 different task options. Each one is a “dream base piece”. For each task, the goal is the same: Create and explore the selected base piece. Make sure it is attached to the rest of the base already completed (if any). Describe with as much detail as you can your contribution to the base so that other members may have a good idea of what the base currently looks like. You may either create it directly, OR, you may let the dream create it and simply explore the new addition to our base.
*Note: These do not have to be completed in order*
1. Build the surroundings (what biome are we located in?) - Tiktaalik
2. Kitchen
3. Main hall
4. Your personal room *May be completed by every member, regardless if it has already been completed by another member* 5. Bathrooms / Bath hall Thena
6. Lecture hall
7. Library
8. Courtyard 9. Garden RelicWraith
10. Art gallery
11. Swimming pool
12. Game room
13. Attic
14. Basement
15. Dining Hall
16. Sitting room 17. Training room Tiktaalik
18. Lake
19. Dance hall
20. Stairwell
21. Upstairs hallway
22. Storage room
23. Patio / deck
24. Balcony
25. Meditation room
Your ideas here, you may do something different of your own design. No same idea may be repeated.
26. Beacon - RelicWraith
27. Magic Room / Altar / Apothecary - MadMonkey
1. Fully complete any of the tasks in a lucid dream in the time frame.
2. Post your successful lucid dream in a reply to this thread, using spoiler tags (using the "Go Advanced" reply button, you will see the box within a box button for a spoiler tag).
Use the following heading format in your spoiler tag:
[Type of task] -[Name of the task] - [Success or fail]
For example:
ToTY Task 1 - Drive a car - Success
Then, after pressing "OK", add your lucid dream details. Make sure you only include the relevant lucid dream material related to the task. No need to post the full entry or non-lucid sections of the dream here.
3. Add the relevant dream journal entry link (Type "DJ Link", highlight your text, then press the earth button. Copy paste your DJ link into the box.).
4. Go to your control panel, then to permission groups, and request to be in the group that applies to the task(s) that you've done: completed X tasks of the year.
5. You should receive your wings within a couple of days. If you don't, please reach out to the Forum Staff.
Please note, that we now have wings for every task (# of stars indicates tasks completed).
Please, make sure you post here your attempts both failures and successes, this will make this post much more dynamic. Report back in this thread, even if you didn't successfully accomplish the task. Your efforts should make interesting reading!
---------------------------------
Have fun! You got this!! Feel free to post any attempts and accomplishments in this thread. Have fun!
Looks good. It should be a fun experiment and it’ll be interesting to see how it carries over across each other’s dreams. I suppose the natural place to start is the exterior so I’ll pursue that first. It’ll be fun to see if we discover any other hidden rooms along the way and which of us pop up as well!

Thanks Tiktaalik, this brings up a great opportunity for some needed clarification it seems.
Should any of you discover some hidden rooms, or more than one room, that is awesome and feel free to post about the experience! However, as far as tasks go, only 1 task may be completed per dream (including chains, as per the rules), so only one room will qualify as a Task completed (your choice which ).
I was close! I thought I succeeded, but I don't remember that part so I guess it's a fail. Kind of an interesting dream though:
Spoiler for TOTY-Build Our Dream Base, Library-Fail?:
I think I might be getting better at WILDing, because I don't know if I ever lost my awareness from being awake. I think, maybe (vague memory) what I have been doing is imagining myself doing a nose pinch RC, and at some point find myself doing one. Anyway, at some point I find myself aware, and possibly do a nose pinch RC. I'm dreaming, or close to it anyway. I sit up in my "dream body", continuing to do a nose pinch RC now and then. I make my way to the front door so I can get outside and do something. I find that I don't have to worry about unlocking the door, I can just open it. I walk outside. At first I think to myself that I should try to go to Synthos again, but then I remember that I had a different plan. It seems to be a bit difficult to remember at first, but then I recall the Task of the Year, to build the Dream Base!
I had decided to work on the library. But how am I going to find it? I'm in a city. I think I just start walking with the idea in my mind of the Dream Base library. I might repeat "Dream Base library" to myself as I do so. At some point I begin to lose the dream (things go black anyway). I wait it out for a few moments, and the dream returns with me standing with my face against some obstruction hanging down from above. Someone is talking to me about how we aren't allowed to stand there staring at historic buildings (which is what I look like I'm doing, I guess). I continue my search.
I think I go into a building looking for the Dream Base library. It is some kind of a store. There are a lot of interesting things there, but it isn't the library. There is a small staircase to my left. I walk up this thinking maybe it will take me there. It seems to me it just ends after a couple of steps. I find a mirror, and think maybe I can use that as a portal. But I just keep seeing my reflection in it. Then I try to envision a portal below me and try to jump through it. Nope. I think about spinning, but I'm a bit worried I'll lose the dream if I do that. I find a blank space on the wall next to me, and try to imagine the Dream Base. Then I imagine that there is a door to my left that will lead me there.
I look to my left, and there is indeed a door. It's not quite like I imagined, but it's a door anyway. Behind it is a closet. Still not the library! Oh well, the door was supposedly going to take me to the Dream Base, so I look in the closet. There are two people with me now, possibly my nieces. We start rummaging around in all the things in the closet. Someone mentions that maybe we shouldn't mess with someone else's things, but I (or someone else) point out that it's my dream so it's all my stuff (it seems like I or they mentioned me in the third person - "All Sam's stuff").
I push some things aside, and just find a wall. There are some protrusions on the wall, like something was nailed there. I find a squarish one, and pretend that it is a button that will activate something (maybe an elevator?) to take us to the Dream Base library. It gives a little, acting like a button, and then the shelves that I have been searching start to detach from the wall. The shelves and floor that we have been standing on detach from their surroundings, and become part of a hidden elevator suspended in a somewhat darkened shaft.
The elevator can be controlled by cords that are hanging down next to us. We start descending, and somehow are aware that we are going deep into the Earth (I think), on the scale of miles (or possibly "years"). Somehow I increase the speed, and now it's possibly on the scale of hundreds of miles. Also, I lose the cord, and for a moment we don't have control of the elevator. But I think I will it to come back, or somehow get ahold of it (or a new one). I stop the elevator and wrap the cord around some sculpture-like thing next to us...
Here the dream recall is a little fuzzy, or else the dream itself skipped or something. We're on the elevator platform, and someone who has joined us is trying to get back on. There is a gap between where he is standing and where we are, and it seems that in order for him to cross this gap successfully there is a specific sequence of actions that we have to do. This involves him doing something, and me pushing on a protrusion in the sculpture next to me. It takes a couple of tries to get it right. But finally he's back on board, and we are reascending the elevator.
Here is the somewhat frustrating part - I seem to think at this point that I found the library. I thought I had in the dream, but now that I'm awake I don't remember it! But in the dream, I think to myself that I could just wake up now having succeeded in my mission. Instead though, I think it would be nice to go back to where I started, because there are people waiting for us there (or something like that) and it would be fun to return and tell them what happened. We ride the elevator upwards, and the kids turn around to see the scenery below us as we go up. There seem to be animals (monkeys?) off to the sides that are throwing things at us. We reach the top of the shaft, or at least the level of the closet. I think it would be interesting to see if the elevator would keep going up, but I get off at the closet.
I'm trying to get back to my starting point. I have an idea of which direction it is, and find that I can just force my way through doors and walls to head there. I don't quite recall what happened at this point...
I have kind of run into a dry spell recently but this is exciting. I am going to start WBTBs from tonight and try to make the surroundings for the mansion, as I find it easer to imagine than smaller details of rooms.
Spoiler for TOTY-Build Our Dream Base, Library-Fail:
I'm walking in a parking garage. I do a nose pinch RC. It's a bit vague but I think I remember a bit of air getting through. Anyway, I feel somewhat confident that this is a dream. Also, when I try to think back to what I was just doing, I have a vague memory about a car but it seems to me that what I had been doing before that was it was sleeping. So I become lucid.
What should I do? I think at first that I should look for Synthos again. But I change my mind and go looking for the Dream Base library instead. I think maybe it's off to my right for some reason and head in that direction. I start crossing a skywalk exiting the parking garage repeating to myself "Dream Base library" over and over. My surroundings don't seem to change to look much more like a library. I have a thought about making a portal and jumping into, I think (something like that). I decide to try spinning this time (it worked once before for finding "Island #1", another predesigned dream location). I think I might be having difficulty keeping a picture of what I'm looking for in my mind. I decide to give up and try re-visiting Island #1 instead. I think I spin, but there is someone nearby making noises that distract me. I appear to be in a nursing home now. There is a lady making a frog-like noise. I think maybe I will pretend she is a frog in the jungle, and just part of the background that I'm trying to imagine, but she is also talking loudly. Somewhere in this I lose my lucidity, and end up trying to find a quiet place to sleep.
I wonder if it would be easier to find this place from the outside, rather than to try to get inside one of the rooms (library) without finding the actual building first. One of my goals has also been to find a Dream Guide. If that works, maybe he/she could help me.
Had a few attempts at finding the exterior as well but nothing worth sharing. My most recent lucids have all started in my bedroom so it’s been tricky to find the base or change the location from there. I’m working on it.
This was my most recent attempt to find the base. Not quite there but I was on the right path.
Spoiler for :
It’s a moody grey day and I’m lucid on a grassy beach over looking the ocean. The dream feels stable so I take a moment to recall my dream goal and remember I want to find the dream base for the TOTY. “The base is behind me” I say and turn expecting to see it. All I find is green hills in the distance beyond the beach and no buildings or structures in sight. I’m surprised it didn’t work but don’t dwell on it and move on to plan B. I find a woman on the beach and go to her for directions. “Excuse me” I call to her. “Do you know where the dreamviews dream base is?” I ask, the words sounding like a tongue twister as I say them. She looks at me blank for a moment as if she didn’t understand but then looks past me and points. “There are many actions you could take” she says. I look to where she’s pointing and see a small cluster of buildings on one of the hill tops and believe that’s where it must be. “Thanks” I say and get moving toward the area which is about half a mile away up a hill. I reach the end of the beach and start walking across a small wooden bridge that leads through some bushes. I’m aware this is a long route to take but feel I have time. I start taking in the details of the location for my journal entry when suddenly my vision begins to fade. I try desperately to hold on to the dream but it collapses and I wake up. I try to relax back into sleep but I’m unable to re-enter.
Nice start! Now we have some idea about the surroundings. I don't want to be annoying and grill you with questions, but I'm wondering about some of the details.
What were the buildings like that the lady on the beach pointed to? Were they large or small, new or old, and what were they made of? Do you think the dream base was one of the buildings, or is the dream base comprised of multiple buildings?
What was the environment like - woods or grassland, urban or rural, tropical or temperate, etc.? Was it a place that exists in waking life?

No problem at all. I didn’t go into much detail as I didn’t actually confirm I’d found the base so I considered it a failed attempt. I’ve added some more detail below if you’re interested and want to re-create it.
Spoiler for Location details:
The beach wasn’t somewhere I recognised but we have grassy beaches here in the UK and may be based on a memory I have of one. It was a grey and cloudy day as well like the weather we usually have. It wasn’t a nice looking beach, not the kind you’d go on holiday to. It was made up of small dunes covered in long grass and the sand was more like mud. There was a row of wild bushes along the edge as well and the hills at the back were small and bare of any landmarks or man made features. The village I only took one glance at and it was far off in the distance on top of a hill. There looked to be a few buildings huddled together and they were small and grey from what I can remember but I really didn’t get a good look at them. I should have flown to get there faster but even if I did it doesn’t mean I would have found it. It’s possible it wasn’t there and could be somewhere completely different. It would be interesting if you did try to re-create the location and build on what I saw though.
In my next attempt I plan to teleport to the base rather than look for it but it’s possible it will bring me to the same location. We’ll see.

I don't necessarily think this is a fail, but if you want to re-attempt it, that is okay. You did get confirmation from the dream character, as she pointed to the base's location. Remember, you may not see a base, just the surroundings. We still have to build / find the base pieces. But, the surroundings themselves count as a successful task.
What would you like to do? You may count this as a success if you wish.
What would you like to do? You may count this as a success if you wish.
Thanks. I suppose it could be considered a success, but the lady never really did confirm it was the base she was pointing at. I think it’s best to leave it open for now and see what others discover. If someone manages to find another location with a clearer vision of the base then I think we should go with that instead. If anyone wants to look for this beach location then that’s cool as well. It would be interesting to build upon what I saw in more detail. So I will leave it as it is and time will tell if it was a success.
Alright, finally got a chance at a first swing. Looks like a clean hit, though that really depends on whether Tik's task counted as a success; the setting was only somewhat reminiscent of his task (his surroundings were of a beach with greenery, mine was a rocky cliff-side bay). Guess we'll have to come to a consensus if we're to move forward. Anyway, I went for my own location in this run: a beacon.
Spoiler for TOTY 2022 - Task 1 - Option 26 - Build your own design (Beacon) - Success?:
Now, I was flying high in a clear dawn sky. It would've been so easy to lose myself here, but I had a task to complete. Down below seemed to be a town built on rocky hills. I followed its roads, when it abruptly ended at cliffs. Beyond that was the calm waters of a teal sea, part of which was trapped in a bay-side city many miles wide, the silhouettes of towers visible in the horizon.
At a peninsula just beyond the town lay a most interesting site: a very wide yard. Stone-carved constructions were strewn about, including low walls, benches, and statues most abstract. Many of these features were of ancient design, yet showed no signs of wear. The rest of the architecture quite surreal. Most tellingly, there was no outward signs of modern technology, nor of greenery.
This was it. This was the Arcology, or at least, a part of it. Quickly, I land in a stone garden. I walk beneath a strange balcony formed of spiral arches, following its pathway towards the center of the space. There stood an engraved wall, much like a memorial wall, though I could read nothing of it. In front of that was a statue atop a tall pedestal, one of the tallest structures in this site. This statue depicted a stone framework of a globe, held in place by stone bands. This didn't seem to depict earth, as none of its landmasses seemed familiar.
In all honestly, the site looked a bit more quaint than I expected. I look past its borders, when I come to a shocking realization: there was no visible borders. All its constructions encompassed the landscape well past anywhere within eyesight. In fact, as I looked closer, the above mentioned city was actually also part of this locale, as noted by its similarly designed buildings. I could barely take in the vastness of it all. Simply incredible.
I appreciate the view as long as I could. When satisfied, I allowed the dream to begin deteriorating. But, I then recalled I wasn't quite done yet! I called out to the dream, asking repeatedly to return to The Arcology. Or rather, the Dream Embassy, as I finally corrected myself. A minute of uncertainty passes, but eventually, I returned just under the globe statue, almost exactly where I was.
There, I begin the next phase of my goal: to light a beacon for all dreamers to see. Charging energy between my palms, I form an orb of light, powering it until its about 3ft in diameter. I then make an overhead throw to launch it at the top of the statue. With a burst, the white light erupts into a beam that pierces the heavens. Against expectation, this ray, rather than remain in state, blinks repeatedly. With each flicker, the light would swirl and arc into aurora-like ribbons, before racing into places unknown. What's more, some of these arced lights found themselves on the surface, zipping and dancing around like ghosts.
I was left mesmerized by the view. Before I knew it, I woke up.

TOTY 2022 - Task 1 - Option 26 - Build your own design (Beacon) - Success?]

Awesome Relic! I think that’s a clear success and what a great idea to light the beacon so we could all find it! I will be looking out for it in my next lucid to guide me there!
Though you say the location was only vaguely reminiscent of mine I was amazed to see that you mentioned a town on a rocky cliff. My dream actually began with me in an office building on top of a rocky cliff overlooking the ocean! I regarded this as irrelevant set up when I originally posted my attempt and cut it out as I saw the beach moment as the most important part. I’ve added the “full” dream below and changed it to success given the similarities.
Spoiler for 1. Build the surroundings - Success:
I’m in a modern, city building and appear to be running from someone. I dash into a lift and press the door close button quickly before my pursuers catch up with me. The doors shut in time and the lift rises and opens onto a corridor with a large, open office to the right behind a glass wall. Suddenly, I get the feeling that I’ve had this dream before? Then it hits me, I must be dreaming right now as well! Now lucid I continue walking down the corridor and look through the office to a large glass window where I can see a view of the ocean. I find an exit and let myself out onto an outdoor platform overlooking the ocean from the top of a rocky cliff. The sky is a moody grey and matches the colour of the ocean. There is also land to the left and a grassy beach area. I decide to fly over the ocean for fun but don’t have much confidence in my ability. I stand on the edge, focus and then I jump and take off into the sky. It appears to be working and I reach a height above the ocean when suddenly I stop mid air and begin to slowly come down again. I’m not surprised giving my lack of belief and give in and let myself fall toward the ocean now expecting a big wet splash. Thankfully the dream glitches and I land on the grassy beach instead.

Amazing dream Relic! Your orb is a signal to call all Dream Views' peeps to find our new base!! I don't know how your drawing skills are, but would you be willing to sketch a design of the statue / beacon you discovered? That would be great for the rest of us trying to locate the base.
Just to understand you correctly, did you see a never-ending base-like building? And I love the teal sea.
It does sound like our base is by a town on a rocky beachside cliff! I would say surroundings are done. Tiktlaalik. These two surroundings sound very similar to me, with the main difference being that yours was a grey day. Perhaps also the buildings/town may have been different, too, but one thing to remember is that things do not have to be exact in the dream world when we are looking for the completed base. I recommend considering your task a success, and then we may move forward with the next piece.

I agree. I’ve added the full dream above and changed it to “success”. Even though Relic has labelled his success as “build your own design” I think it’s also a success for the surroundings and provides a much clearer vision than mine did and we should use it as the official starting point to build on.
Was the ancient architecture reminiscent of anything you’d seen before? Did it have a particular historical look, for example; Roman or Mayan? Can you describe the globe more and the vast landscape in the distance?

If RelicWraith makes a sketch of it, I can try to develop it further as a simple painting, should he desire it. I had been thinking about this anyway when I first read the description of how the beacon manifested.

Awesome. And while Relic's was very clear, we do have a limit on completing 1 dream task per dream. So- he will get credit for the Beacon, and you will get credit for the surroundings (and also your dream did come first).
Congratulations both of you for completing you Task 1 for the Tasks of the Year!!
Eheheh, so, I'm not sure if a sketch would help (I'm a terrible artist!). I mean, I'll make one if it comes down to it. For now, I'll post a few images and see if it helps.
So, the statue itself looked very reminiscent of the Unisphere (aka the World's Fair Globe) shown below. There's a few key differences. First and foremost is its scale: The Unisphere is 120ft in diamter, while the globe in-dream was at most 12ft in diameter. Also, instead of a tripod, the dream statue was held up by a pedestal, an ionic column roughly 16 ft in height and seemingly too narrow to hold such a thing. As noted in the dream, the landmasses depicted were not of Earth's continents. Finally, the entirety was built of stone. Oh, right, and there were no rings around it. Instead, there were more tradition holding bands on its side, much like a regular household globe, though these too were made of stone.
As for the beacon created, the best I could describe it is a combination of the aurorora, and (as I recently discovered) a light pillar. The beacon first appears much like the latter, a beam of light, starting from the top of the statue itself, and going straight into the sky and beyond. This ray was significantly wider than the statue, perhaps 1.5x its diameter. Like the picture below, the light was entirely white in color, if far more brilliant.
This beam would blink at irregular intervals. As it did, the preceding light would arc away into ribbons very similar to the aurora. These ribbons would linger in the sky, before they'd zip around in wild patterns, and finally, race off into parts unknown. Unlike the aurora, these lights were also pure white, and never faded into transparency before they vanished from view.
Just to understand you correctly, did you see a never-ending base-like building? And I love the teal sea.
I'd say it's more like an endless building complex, a never-ending a series of structures with yards/courtyards between them, sprawled, yet seemly in their non-uniformity.

Please do anyway; people underestimate the value of their own sketches even when they are simple. It can make a great deal of a difference when someone else needs a base idea to work from.
As for the image references you linked, in my mind it's all more or less in-line with the sort of ideas I got from your descriptions too!
