I will put in the box

the swish of a silk sari on a summer night,
fire from the nostrils of a Chinese dragon,
the tip of a tongue touching a tooth.

I will put in the box

a snowman with a rumbling belly
a sip of the bluest water from Lake Lucerene,
a leaping spark from an electric fish.

I will put into the box

three violet wishes spoken in Gujarati,
the last joke of an ancient uncle,
and the first smile of a baby.

I will put into the box

a fifth season and a black sun,
    a cowboy on a broomstick
and a witch on a white horse.

My box is fashioned from ice and gold and steel,
with stars on the lid and secrets in the corners.
Its hinges are the toe joints of dinosaurs.

I shall surf in my box
on the great high-rolling breakers of the wild Atlantic,
then wash ashore on a yellow beach
    the colour of the sun.

    1. Lucid #80: Back to the Past

by , 09-30-2012 at 05:18 AM (Magic Box)
We were walking up a road with a small circular park in the middle, that thing where the cars could revolve around. I thought it seemed familiar, but something was off. Then I realized everything looked old, and the people were wearing traditional clothes. I realized it was a dream and went lucid. It must have been in the 1900's, because there weren't any buildings -- just wooden houses and kalesas. However, instead of changing the dream scene or using powers or anything, I decided to just...explore. It didn't even cross my mind. At that moment, I just thought that it wasn't everyday that I got to dream of my country's past. If I manipulated the dream, who knows when I get that chance again?

So for the rest of the dream, which probably lasted about 10 minutes, I just walked around and watched the dream characters. Some men were farming in the distance, with some carabaos. Some women were out in their porches, weaving blankets with a huge wooden tool. Some kids were running around.

      Spoiler for kalesa:

      Spoiler for carabao:

      Spoiler for weaving thing:

      Spoiler for traditional clothes:

Some of them even saw me, took off their straw hats, and bowed courteously. I bowed back.

I woke up a few minutes after that. But that was such a beautiful experience. I travelled back in time and got to explore! I doubt any of my friends have done that. Suckers.

I had two lucids during my nap this noon!

The first one was a false awakening, and the interesting thing about it was that in the FA, I had sleep paralysis. Until now I can't be sure if I had it in real life, or if I had it in the dream. Either way, it felt really amazing. My chest was so tight that I couldn't breathe. I realized that I was in sleep paralysis and I calmed down. I am also proud of myself for remembering not to panic even though I couldn't breathe or move. Of course I think it kinda helped that I have asthma irl, because I knew how to maximize my breathing when I have trouble with it. Anyway in about 2 minutes, I opened my eyes and found myself beside my mom on my bed. I reality checked via noseplug, and I could breathe! I also pushed my finger through my hand and really observed. It went through, and it felt really cool and strange. I looove catching FA's!

Went out and remembered something a DV member mentioned on here. He was wondering what it felt like and if it was possible to have four arms in a lucid. I gave that a go. I closed my eyes and imagined two more arms sprouting indian goddess style on my hips. When i opened my eyes, they were there, and I could control them the same way I would any other body part. It's hard to describe because it's similar to how you control the movement of one eyebrow or making your ears move – it's something you can't really teach or explain. But it was so cool nonetheless. I did a little indian goddess pose, the one with the arms in diffent directions while squatting. Hahaha. Then walked around and lost lucidity.

The second lucid was spontaneous, and it was one of those "lucidity via dream atmosphere", as I would call it. Just something about the atmosphere that's a bit off, even though everything looks realistic. Kinda like when you go away on a long vacation, and when you come back home, it feels a bit odd at first, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I was outside, and decided to fly with angel-type wings. I've only used those kinds of wings once in a previous lucid goal, but I wanted to try it again. And so I did. I ran on the ground for a few meters, then jumped up and imagined unfurling my huge fluffy wings. I looked to my side and I could hear them flapping every few moments or so. I felt free. I flew back down after a few minutes, and got tangled up in some wires. Lost lucidity some time after that.

    3. Creepy Soldier Dream

by , 09-17-2012 at 02:06 PM (Magic Box)
I think I was a soldier. We were on the rooftop of a small building, helping some sort of refugees cross to the next building via ziplining. It was quite far to the next building, about 100 meters or so. The refugees were all in dark cloaks that covered most of their bodies, with only their faces visible. A few of them were already on the other side, and I was hooking up another refugee to the zipline harness. I pushed him, and he went zooming into the air. Halfway through, the harness got stuck, and he remained dangling 2 storeys in the air. He started to panic, but then a small military jeep with no roof drove under him and stopped. There were 5 soldiers on it, and they were yelling for him to just jump, and that they would catch him.

The refugee looked relieved, got a knife from somewhere in his cloak, and proceeded to cut himself loose. Within a few seconds, he fell down. Luckily, the soldiers on the jeep caught him just as they said.

I looked down at them. The refugee was smiling, hugging the soldiers, thanking them for saving his life. He sat down in the front area of the jeep. Then, one of the soldiers who was standing behind the refugee looked up at me, smiled creepily, and took a knife from his belt. He then removed the refugee's hood, revealing his head and neck. He grabbed the refugee's hair, and in a slow and deliberate motion, the soldier dragged the knife across the refugee's neck.

I saw the blood oozing from the refugee's neck. The soldier released his grip on the man's head, after which the man dropped forward on the jeep's floor.

      It was horrible.

My perspective suddenly shifted, and I became one of the soldiers on the jeep – the driver, I think. The mutilated body of the refugee was to my right. For some reason, I went over him, swiped my thumb across the pool of blood on the floor, and drew a cross on the man's forehead.

I went back to the driver's seat and drove away.

I mean wtf is up with this dream. Why would I even... 0______0

    4. Lucid #76: Advanced ToTM

by , 09-16-2012 at 02:13 PM (Magic Box)
      My house was on fire.

I was panicking, and waterbending any water I could find into the flames to put them out. I was thinking of just firebending the flames, but for some reason my dream self knew I sucked at firebending. I was in the kitchen when I suddenly got lucid. Everything went HD instantly, which was really awesome to witness. I stood there, amazed at the realistic graphics of the dream. I walked outside, leaving my house in flames, and not caring a bit. I didn't think about stabilizing, because the last few times I tried to stabilize, it ended up making the dream hazy, I have no idea why. This time everything went smoothly. It must've been because I didn't think the dream would fall apart, so my mind found no reason to do so. If that makes sense.

I was out in the middle of the street. It was nighttime and there were no cars around. I closed my eyes and imagined a huge pool of water appearing in the road. When I opened my eyes, there it was. It looked like a huge pond with blue-black water. For a moment I thought, "Am I really doing this?" For the past few lucids, I've been planning to do it, but I always chickened out at the last minute. I was afraid it would be too scary and shock me awake, or make me lose lucidity.

      Oh, fvck it.

I jumped in. I was underwater, a few feet from the surface. It was very dark, but I could see that there were dolphins around me. They looked so cute, just a bit larger than me. There were about 5 or 6 of them, swimming playfully. Then I remembered my last unfinished personal monthly goal, which was to turn into a mermaid (thanks NoDaniel for the idea ). I was initially planning to turn into a mermaid while doing the advanced ToTM, so I'd hit two birds with one stone. Plus, it'd be easier to travel underwater and there won't be any breathing problems.

I closed my eyes and imagined turning into a mermaid. I tried moving my legs but it felt like they were glued together. They felt very light too. I looked down at myself and saw that I had a shimmery silver fin, which was about twice as long as my normal legs. It was really cool. I decided to swim down, thinking that the deeper I go, the further into the past I'd end up in. (Perfect logic seems legit ) After about 20 meters or so, I started seeing huge aquatic thingies moving past me. They moved really fast so I couldn't see what they were. I shifted upright, and stayed still. Then this ginormous crocodile-looking creature moved beside me. It was quite different though; it didn't have reptile scales, but a fish-type skin. I could see there were about 3-4 of them in the distance. There were also a lot of squid-looking creatures that were as big as me, floating around. There were seaweeds too -- I had to push some of them away from me.

I decided to swim back up to the surface.
I must've lost lucidity sometime in between, because I don't remember ever reaching the top.

P.S. So I was looking up pics of the cretaceous period animals and found this, and I remember seeing it about 2 weeks ago. Good job brain, for remembering

    5. Lucid #75: WILD

by , 09-13-2012 at 07:48 AM (Magic Box)

I was so swamped from a whole day of school. When I got home at 6pm, I had some dinner, then slept at around 7. I woke up at 11pm and started studying until 5 am (cramming for a major test hehe). I then decided to take a 90 minute nap before I got ready for school.

I lay on my side, really really sleepy and tired. After about two minutes, the hypnagogia kicked in. It was a surprise because I'd never gotten them that quickly before. At first it was a quick flash of a yellow bus. Then suddenly it was like I was running at full speed. My vision was blurry at the sides, and it was like I was in a hospital corridor, with people walking slowly beside me. It felt amazing because within a few seconds, I started feeling air on my face and body. This went on for about a full minute. Then it suddenly stopped, and I was standing in front of a surgery room. I could tell it was a surgery room because it had double swinging doors, and a 'no entry' sign (the red circle with the slash). A classmate of mine came out of the door. She was Chinese and wearing scrubs. At that point I made her vanish, then walked toward the door, planning to teleport through it and into another dreamscape. I woke up before I got to the other side.

The odd thing is, when I woke up, 45 minutes had passed already. This makes me really curious. I was aware the whole time, and I could have sworn the whole thing only lasted less than 5 minutes! I wonder how that works: did everything happen in ultraslow motion in real time? And did my mind just make me think and feel like it was 5 minutes? Weird.

    6. Lucid #73: Let It Snow

by , 09-07-2012 at 01:47 PM (Magic Box)
      Non-lucid Lucid

I am at a friend's house and it's raining really hard. The floor starts flooding, and I am looking for something to stand on so I don't get wet, as this particular house doesn't have a second floor. Seeing all the water, I spontaneously wonder how I got there.

I become lucid, and I do a noseplug. Sure that it is a dream, I phase through a wall, using it to teleport to another dream scene -- in this case my house. I get to the other side, and end up in my living room. I go over to the door and decide to do one of my monthly goals which is to let it snow. I open the door, and look outside. It's quite sunny and bright. I stare blankly ahead, focusing on making it snow. I imagine it raining, but with snow falling instead of raindrops. Soon enough, huge dark thunderclouds appear and it starts snowing. I notice that it's very noisy too. I hear a lot of thunder and annoying buzzing sounds. I try yelling out, "QUIET!" and surprisingly, it gets quiet instantly. It starts getting really cold too so I look down at my body and imagine changing to a more appropriate attire. My t-shirt and shorts start morphing into long sleeves, a coat, pants and mittens.

I go outside and walk in the snow, feeling the little drops melt in my hair.

      Soon, I lose lucidity.

    7. DEILD Chain #2

by , 09-05-2012 at 03:46 PM (Magic Box)
I had another DEILD chain when I took a nap this afternoon.

      1. Had a DILD where I spontaneously got lucid. I managed to summon an ice cream for my dream food goal, but instead of a cone, it was a banana I was holding, with strawberry and cookies on top. I changed it to a proper cone, which was awesome because I could see the banana morphing right before my eyes. I woke up while eating the ice cream.

      2. Stayed still and imagined the last scene with the ice cream, and entered the dream again. This time there was an ocean near me, and I considered doing the TOTM but I chickened out (ophie you're right, oceans are kinda creepy esp at nighttime). I decided to do my month goals instead, and I remembered to flip a table. I summoned a large wooden table, and flipped it. It wasn't as heavy as I'd thought it would be. I put it upright and flipped it one more time. Then my mom entered my room and I woke up again.

      3. I DEILDed again, and I was glad my mom left right away and didn't wake me up. I yelled out for my dream guide a few times while walking around touching objects like the trees and rubbing my hands. I woke up again. Because my mom entered the room yet again.

      4. My mom called me, and I focused real hard on reentering the dream and ignoring her (sorry mom). Success. My mom must've left after I didn't respond. I was back in the last dream scene, and there was an man standing in the corner, looking at me. I tried to go near him, but this time my mom woke me up and shook me until I finally got up.

    8. DEILD Chain

by , 09-05-2012 at 03:40 AM (Magic Box)
      Non-lucid Lucid Awake

I came back from school at around 2 pm, since we didn't have any classes anymore. I did the SSILD technique until I rolled over and fell asleep.

I was dreaming about a man chasing me in the mall, and he was yelling "La sangre! La sangre!" which means "the blood" in Spanish. I was holding a sealed vial of blood in my hand, and I was apparently hiding it from him. After a long chase scene, we stopped in front of a Korean hairstyle salon, and he suddenly morphed into the Korean guy on the poster. I reality checked and got lucid.

      (1) The guy vanished, and everything went really dark, like the mall was closed already. I tried shouting "Clarity!", "Light!", and some other commands, but nothing worked. I was afraid a monster was gonna pop out of the darkness. I was not necessarily afraid of monsters, but they might shock me into non-lucidity or wake me up. So I decided to lean against the wall and imagining coming out of a new dream scene on the other side. I closed my eyes, and felt like I was sinking into the wall. A few seconds later, I heard a distinct sound of a door creaking. The sound was very vivid, that I was awed while I was hearing it. When I opened my eyes, I had apparently gone through a door and ended up in my classroom, with my classmates and professor having a lecture. Cool, I thought. I changed dream scenes! I must have been smiling like an idiot by then. I walked around the back of the room, not minding the DCs having a class. I saw a door and entered. It was a really weirdly-shaped bathroom, with uneven corners and deformed structures inside. Then the whole room started to shrink or something. It felt really tight too, until I woke up from the dream altogether.

      (2) I stayed still when I noticed I had woken up. I started seeing blobs of white moving before my eyelids. At the same time, I noticed my head was throbbing too, like there was pressure inside it. It was very uncomfortable and borderline painful, but I knew it was all in my mind so that helped me to not panic. The white blobs looked really bright, until it just vanished, and I found myself in a room with several people. I was very amazed that the DEILD had worked, and that I was lucid all throughout the transition. The people in the room looked about my age. This time, I had no control though. I couldn't summon anything, nor could I fly out of the room to do other stuff. Someone mentioned that everyone in that room was a mutant, like in X-Men. A girl went to the corner and told us to stay on the other side. To my surprise, she turned into a huge shark. Like, HUGE. She filled half the room, and it was weird because..well she was a shark, on the concrete floor in the middle of a room. Lol. I started to wake up again.

      (3) I knew I had just exited a lucid dream, so I attempted to do a DEILD chain. I stayed still again, and soon enough, the same bright white blobs started moving behind my eyes. It slowly became less intense until I saw that I was in the mall I had just been in before. I immediately tried to remember my monthly goals, and I remembered one of them was to watch an aurora. I started to walk outside, while imagining the sky turning into nighttime, since it was daylight outside and an aurora would be better to look at in the dark. I didn't manage to make it nighttime though, only twilight. So it was still kinda daytime but kinda nighttime as well. Then I saw these really pretty colors. There were streaks of yellow, red and green stretched out like ribbons across the sky. I also noticed that there were some strings that were hanging in front of me, and they seem to have come from somewhere high above me. I pulled them one at a time, and when I did, the ribbons of colors in the sky seemed to be pulled along with the strings, like they were connected. I thought that was really cool. I pulled them some more, making the aurora dance to my liking. Then, I heard a commotion somewhere near me. I ran to a group of people. A man apparently died of a heart attack or something. Then I woke up again.

      (4) I stayed still yet again, knowing I had just woken up from a dream. My heart was racing at this time, because I remember being lucid just a few moments before, and I was excited. This time the blobs behind my eyelids weren't white. In fact, there weren't blobs at all. I just saw black for about 5 seconds, then the dream scene just appeared in front of me. I can't quite explain it, it's like..uhmm.. It's like I was closing my eyes and when I opened them, I was in the dream scene. The dream scene this time was the previous one, minus the people and the aurora. I was still quite aware of everything, so I thought about doing another one of my monthly goals. The one I could remember was to sing. I started singing the first song that came to mind, which was a Taylor Swift song. As I was singing, a band started appearing in front of me. At first they looked like foggy figures, until I reached the chorus, and the band was very vivid. There was a guy on the drums, guitar, bass, and a small guitar-like instrument (I have no idea what it was.) By the time I got to the bridge, I completely forgot the lyrics! I stopped singing, and the band stopped playing. I thought really hard, but I just couldn't remember. I thought about doing another goal, which was to be a mermaid. But before I could do so, I woke up again.

This time I decided to wake myself up completely, because I was afraid I would forget the previous dreams and lucids. I'm not sure if that was a great idea, or a really stupid one. Should I have gone for another DEILD? Or did I make the right choice in waking up and making sure the previous dreams would be remembered and recorded?
