So I'll have to post this here, hope that's okay
Oops! I didn't even know that happens! I was wondering why my PM's were going unanswered! Actually, since almost every question might have some meaning to other WILD students, I tend to prefer them asked here (or in the WILD Q & A) anyway. So:

Your WILD tutorial is great and atm I'm really trying to follow it, I feel I will be very capable of doing it, I just have one problem. I'm just not so good with all this 'Self-Awareness'... I can do what you say, I guess, but I'm not sure If I get the 'wonder'...

However I do think a lot "I am omnipotent", and get filled with wonder, knowing I'm a god of my own multiverse of infinite possibilities, but that's not the same is it.
Perhaps you could elaborate, or just help me out somehow, other than that (which is an important part) I should be good with this I think...
I'm not sure how much more I can elaborate from what've said already, but I can say that yes, that act of wondering is far different than the awe you feel at your own omnipotence in a dream (indeed, be mindful of that awe, as it is a potential trap: Be too bowled over by your unconscious mind's abilities, and you risk breaking the balance between waking and dreaming minds, and losing your lucidity).

That wondering is less a sense of awe than it is a sense of active curiosity. You're not trying to be impressed by the answers to your questions in an RRC; instead you're trying to really think about them, and consider the interactions with reality that they imply. Ultimately, you're looking to develop an easily-tapped state of mind that fully understands that there is a true interaction between you and your surroundings. Exercise that state of mind in a dream, and lucidity will come much more easily because you will "know" that that interaction is all happening in a single world of your mind's own creation -- it's all you.

My definition of self-awareness is simple enough to repeat here, from my Lucid Dreaming Fundamentals Thread: Self-awareness is nothing more -- or less -- than being aware that you are here, that you have an effect on everything around you, and everything around you has an effect on you. It really is that simple. So be aware of your presence in reality in a RRC, pay attention, and you will encounter self-awareness.

I hope that helped. If not, you might check that fundamentals thread and the first session of my WILD class, as I go into greater, and hopefully clearer, detail.

Lol was going to give this a shot last night

I wake up at 8am to what I think is my alarm, and I'm thinking "OH BOY, TIME FOR WILD ATTEMPT HERP DERP", I look at my phone which is ten minutes behhind the alarm I set and work is calling me. Turned out I was supposed to be at work at 7am(depression sets in), so I sadly got out of bed and went to work thinking about the WILD I could've had.

I'll give this a try when I get the chance again though

Thanks so much for the class, it is really helpful and I think I had a WBTB today!

      ^^ Welcome SassoOo!

I just checked out your DJ post, and I would say what you actually had was a DEILD, or maybe DILD, and everything being gray is always a step up from nothing being there at all, don't you think? Don't worry about the gray bit either; in time you should get more chances to form your dreams, given the excellent start you're enjoying.

Quick side note: that is an excellent idea to add a summary to your DJ entries; I don't know if others do that, but everyone should!

Thanks for your reply, and yea you are right I confused the WBTB with DEILD, I'm still new
And I recalled a Non Lucid Dream after I woke up from the Lucid one but I can't tell if it was right before it or not.

I already read that class but I read all your classes in one or two days, they are really interesting and helpful and I couldn't stop I guess I should have given each some days to apply, because taking too much information at once made it hard to remember them right and use them.

Thanks for your note about the summary

I have read all your lessons and have been practicing self awareness for several days now, last nite I had my first real WBTB WILD and here's what happened after waking up after about 5 hours of sleep, and staying up for 30 minutes, and listening to one cycle of Ninja's subliminal audio 3.0.

You can read the full dream by clicking here and you'll be taken to my DJ entry, but for now, here's just what I went through in a short excerpt from my DJ:

Operation Homicide Ep. 102: I was laying in bed after my WBTB and trying to keep still and relaxed. I couldn't help but move a couple of times to stay comfortable, and eventually simply rolled onto my side. After laying there for a little while I felt myself slipping into sleep. I was very aware of myself and of the fact I was trying to perform a WBTB WILD. As I was laying there about to fall asleep I heard the most TERRIBLE noise in the world! It was such a loud screeching I thought I was about to break my ear drums. It sounded like my grandmother was being torn apart by a pack of wolves, and I literally had that thought go through my mind. This of course was just my imagination and fear getting the better of me. I remembered reading a thread on DV about hearing this sound that sounded like the fibers of the universe were ripping, and that's EXACTLY what it sounded like. It took everything I had not to throw my hands up to my ears to cover them. Each time I heard it I started yelling. The first few times that I felt these waves of sounds coming I kept yelling and I kept snapping back to reality saying that it's just part of the WILD process, and to stay calm, I'm entering the dream, but they never seemed to end. After about 5x of listening to this hell, I finally hit the big one and it felt like I was falling at a very high rate down a worm hole. I watch "Through The Wormhole With Morgan Freeman" all the time, which is a show about space time and how space and the universe work, and black holes and wormholes, and I literally saw, felt, and thought that the Earth had been swallowed by either a black hole, or a wormhole and was seeing the last seconds of my life.

I quickly thought to myself "Wait! I must be dreaming!" even though I wasn't fully asleep yet... as soon as that happened I snapped awake and sat up in my bed. I heard a knock at the door, and figured my grandma in the next room heard me yelling, I told her to come inside. I kept looking down at my sheets and had the idea to RC just to make sure it's not a false awakening. I tried the finger through hand thing, and the RC failed, my finger wouldn't go through. It was my uncle who walked in my room, not grandmother. He walked over to my dresser and kind of stood there awkwardly. He started talking but I couldn't hear him. I asked him to speak up. I had a bit of a small realization... my uncle usually talks with a loud voice, this is strange. Suddenly he starts shouting as loud as he possibly can and black smoke surrounds him and he is about 7' tall! Scared out of my mind, I remembered reading right before my WBTB that this guy entered a FA and realized it after he did multiple RC's, because the finger through palm method didn't work, but the nose plug technique did. I did the nose plug, and had to try for a few seconds and REALLY focus on what was happening in my nose, which was hard with a 7' demon standing in front of me. Suddenly it hit me! I'M ASLEEP! I remembered something I had read about dream control, and shouted "THIS IS MY DREAM!" He didn't seem affected. I tried shouting it again, no result. I knew not to be afraid of him, but naturally was a little intimidated by the looming dark presence. I closed my eyes and shouted "BE GONE!!" When I opened them he was gone. I stood up and looked around. I suddenly heard my grandma talking, but I realized it's in real life, talking to my grandfather, so I quickly and calmly jumped into my bed, laid down, and prepared for a DEILD. Success! I DEILD'ed and when I opened my eyes I was in a warehouse of sorts.

^^ Nice work, Kmaniac101! Nice work enduring all that noise, too... tough work, yes, but with an excellent payoff.

Speaking of the noise, they actually have a name for that terrible shriek, as it sounded to me like Exploding Head Syndrome, . Hopefully it won't be so bad as you get accustomed to it.

      Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I'm going to give it another shot tonight! The only way that I can possibly suggest a sound that sounds similar... is the sound of a pterodactyle, more specifically, the first pterodactyl sound in this video amplified by about 20, if played at max volume with headphones on:

Last week on Tuesday or Wednesday, I decided to actually plan a WILD. I chose friday night. Throughout the days up to friday night, I did the self awareness stuff in the lessons. I woke up at around 2:45 in the morning, and got up to use the bathroom. I came back in to my room and sat on my bed for a while, going over the tasks for ToTM and thinking about general LDing. I stayed up for about 15 minutes, then went back to bed. Nothing happened though, and I didn't ever start actually falling asleep. After a few minutes from when I went to bed, I was pretty uncomfortable. Pretty much, I was just laying there. At my dad's house, it gets pretty hot during the day and it carries over into night, which can cause problems.

I think that what I really need to do is start from lesson 1 again, and go through. I need to practice self-awareness and everything else that is included in the lessons. I think that will really help with WILDing and general LDing for me.

^^ Though it never hurts to go over all the lessons (I still do), you may have already identified your problem this time around: if the setting is uncomfortable or distracting, there's almost no point even trying a WILD. So, if it's too hot or otherwise uncomfortable, it might not be time to WILD ... don't forget there's always DILD, where comfort isn't as important (though mental prep is, of course, and the mental prep in the first session works as well for DILD as WILD, I think).

Thanks for sharing, and good luck with your next dive!

I had a bit of a fail yesterday, but on the upside, I was very aware during the transition, and noticed everything that happened. I'm having a really hard time LD'ing right now (stress related), but I was jonesing a bit, and it was the weekend which is my best time, but nothing had happened, so I decided to try a WILD because they are the easiest for me.

It was morning and quite bright in the room. I was lying on my left side waiting, and then the buzzing began. I consciously let myself begin to sink into the bed, and when it happened, it was a very smooth and swift motion that felt like sinking and also tilting backwards a bit. Then I was in the void. I heard metal pipes rhythmically banging on metal scaffolding. It had an eerie, ominous sound, but I kept reminding myself that it was my dream, and I would be able to make it go away soon.

I saw a tiny hole in the void, the sun shining brightly through it. I kept looking at the light, expecting the hole to expand, but then suddenly a dream scene filled my entire "dream screen". It was a pedestrian crossing. The colouring looked like a faded photograph from the 1970's. A girl ran across the road, and then it faded to white and I was awake. I couldn't DEILD.

I noticed that the rhythm of my heartbeat matched the metallic banging I had been hearing.

I think what I need to do is find my dream body in the void and activate it, instead of waiting for the dream to kick in. Do you agree?

Hi, I'm new here, and something interesting already happened tonight, thanks to the great course.

To start with, I have been trying to get a WILD few years ago, but very unsuccessfully, because of thousands of mistakes I've been doing. I tried that few times again later with no luck again, so I forgot about LD for some time.
But last week, I've stumbled upon this WILD course thread and got inspired to start all over again. I think, my self awareness is pretty good already, so I attempted WILD a couple of afternoons in a row and, although it didn't work out well, I got some interesting experiences of going halfway through. So I thought, with a few weeks of practice I should get my first LD soon. But then I got to the last lecture about DEILD - it seems so much easier than all the WILD preparations. So I though - why not to try - I only have to catch the moment of waking after a dream in the morning (which I noticed happens a lot). And to my surprise, the very next morning realized that I just woke up from a dream and I have to get back to it. Unfortunately, my head was twisted to the side in weird angle, so I had to change position, this movement distracted concentration and everything was lost, but later in the day I remembered hearing strong wind-like sound at that moment, and when I asked my girlfriend if there was any wind in the morning, she denied that. This experience gave me confidence for the next morning, because I've realized that I've accidentally put this search for the end of the dream into my unconsciousness, and I was just doing that automatically. So this morning same thing happened as expected - woke up from a dream, in split second realized that I have to keep still and go back. Then the fun things began. Everything went black. Insane vibrations started and probably all the types of HH and HS at the same time. Well, the feeling was totally unique - something I have never experienced in my life. It felt like being thrown into space at the speed of light in a shuttle which was powered by liquified thoughts about the size of the universe. I suddenly became tense and a bit scared, but just made myself relax, and as soon the brakes were released, white light started flooding in, and I was there, standing in my dream - I began jumping around like crazy. The biggest problem is, that after that point, I can remember only very short episodes of the LD, and after I fully woke up in the morning, I thought that all this was just a simple dream. Only after a while I thought - "Wait a minute - I could not had a dream about me having a dream - this must be a LD!". Also later I have recalled that it actually was a FA , and only after I did RC I realized that I'm dreaming. Later in the morning I had few NLDs, so everything is mixed up quite a bit..

So this is it. My biggest problem so far is, that I have to improve my dream recall drastically. Also to learn how to gain more control over a dream or become more self aware in it, as I can't remember having much control over anything, except myself, I'm not actually sure if I had any control at all, so it looks for me like It was some kind of NLD and LD mix when trying to recall it. Now have to practice, and practice more - there a still so many methods to be tried. But this really gave me some self confidence, because I was almost starting to think that LD was some ridiculous fantasy made by kids on internet..

Have a great day everybody! Will try to post more if something of any interest happens.

Last night, I had a successful dive, but a not so successful dream xD.

I woke up at 3:20, went to the bathroom, and went back to bed. I tried to WILD, but then I decided to just go to sleep. I had a lengthy dream, but right at the end, I walked up to something and started feeling some vibrations. I woke up, and still felt some of those vibrations, so I decided to try to WILD. After a few minutes, I felt myself falling asleep. I didn't end up seeing, hearing, or feeling much other than those small vibrations at the start. I ended up in my room, laying on my bed again. I tried to get out of the bed, but I was moving really slowly, and the bed sheets were stuck to me (reminded me of a bunch of the ToTM things). I was also pretty groggy, so I thought I should close my eyes, and tell myself that when I open them, I'll be on the beach (Nooo Dx). I closed them and then when I opened them again, I was awake.

^^ That was a pretty cool experience on its own, DragonMaster, and a nice show of patience and jumping at opportunity!

This sort of thing has happened to me more than a few times, with similar results. The only conclusion I could come to was that I was simply too close to wakefulness to stay asleep, much less form a dream. In a sense, my brain was having its way with my wishes. Just bad luck and a fully functioning reticular system, in the end.

But at least you did everything right, right?

      WILD Attempt : failed

So this morning I attempted WILD and failed the transition,

-Woke up after 5 hours of sleep, felt waaaay too tired to attempt WILD.
-After 7 hours woke up and attempted WILD
      -WBTB for 10 minutes
-Lied there still reciting mantra while timing with breath, Breath in : "There and then" - Breath out : "Up again"
-After a bit, I started visualizing some recent dreams, but most of my focus was towards my mantra and breath
-Laid there doing this for about 20 minutes and decided to go back to sleep

Although after this I had a pretty vivid DILD, not a complete fail, I suppose.

^^ Not a fail at all -- the goal is a LD, right? In the end how you got to lucidity doesn't really matter.

Last night a middle school teacher taught me how to WILD, in my dream. I ended up attempting one and became lucid, which was pretty amusing

      Welcome Chitrarth!

You might be more successful if you pay a little less attention to the noise (in your case those waves) and keep your focus on your goal -- the dream -- perhaps with a mantra.

I suggest you check out the course of which this thread is a part; it might help!

      Wild attempt : Success?

So Last night I woke up around 7:20 for a "short" WBTB, went to the bathroom and went back to bed, Then Lied there on my back and gave up quickly because I decided I wanted some sleep and was confident that I might be able to achieve a MILD/DILD.

Fast-Forward 20 mins my body felt quite heavy and I found myself feeling the same thing I usually do in a DEILD attempt, I was lucid for about 10 seconds and lost it, while attempting to DEILD back, I realized I was so excited I may have WILDed(not sure if I did), and whilst being on the edge of lucidity I could feel how heavy my body was, but If I focused really hard on visualizing the dream It brought me to it faster, After a while I let go of the lucidity and woke up out of excitement(dumb mistake, I know).

-I feel like it could've been me leaving a DILD, and accidentally DEILDing back for a bit.
-Visualization seems to speed the process up a lot, but I have trouble focusing all my attention into it.
      -Ignore the noise next time.

^^ Interesting attempt, or happy accident, as it were!

I agree with all your conclusions at the end of your post, EmptyBucket, and would add that excitement is a good thing in LD's, as long as you direct its energy toward the dream and not away from it. Oh, and since DEILD is a form of WILD, then you did indeed WILD.

      Thanks for sharing!

From this morning, a successful WILD:

Tuesday, August 13th 2013: "Amazing Mirror" (LUCID)
      Type: WBTB/WILD

After a brief WBTB period (around 10 minutes), I begin to slowly enter sleep paralysis. After the vibrations begin I relax as usual and focus on seeing through my eyelids. A few moments later the picture becomes clearer and clearer. After about 5 seconds, my bedroom becomes extremely vivid, and I just move my dream body and sit up. Excited that I entered a dream, I take a deep breath and get up from my bed. I look down at it, thinking maybe I'll see my body lying there, but no... I just see the bed, the pillow, and the sheets. I analyze the objects in my room and laugh because it's just so vivid. I am also lucid enough to know that I'll soon have to get up for work, and worry that maybe my alarm clock will wake me up soon and ruin my lucid dream. Now I enter my living room. It is day time, actually morning, just as in reality. I see one of my friends lying on the couch, but he doesn't live here at all. I tell him this is not reality, and ask him if he already knew that. He says no, and seems a bit disappointed. I tell him I have some things to do/experiment with, and that I won't disturb him, so he can remain lying on the couch. He laughs and says ok.

In my living room there is a big mirror in the same position just like in real life. Now it dawns on me that I wanted to experiment with mirrors next time I become lucid. Very excitedly I step closer to the mirror and closer. Now I see my reflection... which is... extremely odd, just as always. But this time I am analyzing every detail of it, and it simply amazes me. My reflection is "angry", and "scary". My eyes look very focused, as if I'm ready to attack someone. One eyebrow is raised, which looks funny. In any case, the atmosphere is somewhat eerie, but it's a good feeling nonetheless. Now I move to the left, and the reflection seems to move just a bit differently, perhaps with a 1 second delay, and some minor differences in movement. Then I move to the right, and again, there is a delay and minor differences. Then I get very close to the mirror and analyze my face. One eyebrow is still raised, eyes are still scary, and the face is in "attack-mode." I actually laugh at this point, but my reflection doesn't laugh.

At this point I decide to try what I read somewhere on the internet, and that's pulling the reflection out of the mirror. First, I stick my hand inside the mirror for a second, then pull it out. It looks cool, kind of like pushing your hand into liquid. I move my hand really close, then push it inside the mirror very fast and grab my reflection's hand. I pull it out, and pull, and pull... first up to the wrist, then up to the elbow. He's pulling back very hard, and I'm pulling in my direction. My friend watches the whole thing in amusement. I tell him to help me pull him out of the mirror. Gets up and helps me. However, at this point the arm begins stretching kind of like rubber, and I see that I can't pull him out, instead it's just like a very long arm that is now almost pulled to the end of the room. My friend and I decide to let go of the arm, and it just pulls itself back very fast into the mirror, snapping back kind of like a rubber band.

A false awakening occurs. I am in my bed, but I already know it's a false awakening without doing a reality test. Everything is amazingly vivid again. I laugh and get up, but before I get to do anything... my alarm clock "really" wakes me up.

I tired to do a WILD attempt last night. I woke myself up at 3 am. I go to bed at 12--I know it's not 4.5 hrs after sleeping, but I find if I wait that long, I'm usually not in the middle of a dream. I seem to start dreaming between 3-4 hrs after going to sleep :s

anyway, I woke up, got my mind alert by taking a leak, and hopped back into bed. I checked my alarm to make sure it wasn't going to go off in another hour and a half, and then laid down. I went through my relaxation, slowing my thoughts, breathing deep a few times and letting my breaths out slowly. I was laying on my back, hands down at my side. I allowed myself to get into that deeply relaxed state where your extremities begin to get numb. The problem is, my mind began to wander. I gently focused my thoughts back to lucid dreaming and staying alert. 3 or 4 times I found myself having to redirect my thoughts. I wasn't getting any real HH symptoms, other than the radiating lights that look almost like the Northern Lights. I decided I should probably start counting now, because my mind was trying to wander again. I started doing the 1-I am dreaming, 2-I am dreaming count. It was shortly after that where I lost awareness completely, fell asleep, and woke up the next morning

I am going to try again tonight, maybe let myself get a little more awake before attempting WILD. I'm super determined to stay aware this time. I just hope said awareness doesn't keep my body from falling asleep.

I've been attempting WILD for some time now, and I always seem to lose conscious. I'm one of those guys who experiences numbness/tingling, physical diatortions, and hypnagogic imagery. However, it always seems that I either take forever to physically fall asleep, or fall asleep mentally too quickly. I've only had a couple of times where I was really close to a dream (vivid hypnagogic imagery of rooms, forests, etc.). Any suggestions? I seem to have the most vivid dreams between six and nine hours of sleep.

Thanks for sharing, SilverWolf; it seems that you made a generally solid attempt. A couple of thoughts:

Regarding your timing, there's no need to wake up "in the middle of a dream." The reason to wait until very late in your sleep cycle to do WBTB is because that is when your REM stages are occurring very closely together; whether you happen to be dreaming when you wake is not important, unless you are attempting DEILD (which I personally would do, if I woke in the middle of a dream). So don't concern yourself with waking up when your dreaming, as the object here is to wake up when you most likely might be dreaming again shortly.

You also might consider using a mantra to hold your focus. One more specific than the "I am dreaming" cadence used with the counting technique might help you hold onto your awareness more effectively.

Otherwise, nicely done, and welcome to the class!
