do you ever experience non-lucid dream control?

If you do, what is it like?

what is it like compared to your lucid dream control?

I do on occasion and it is very similar to when I'm lucid, just I'm not consciously making the decisions. For example, the other night I had a dream where somebody ran up behind me. I heard them, turned around and used some sort of telekinesis and pushed them backwards, causing them to fall over. I've done this before in a lucid and they felt very similar, the only difference was that I was not lucid during this dream.

I experience non-lucid dream control almost every time I dream. It's not always to a great extent though.

It's just like I'm going about my ordinary life, but I randomly decide to "use my ability to climb walls" or something - I don't think anything of it, just like how I don't consider the fact that I'm walking or talking. I don't consciously make the decision, just as Burke posted. It's just part of the dream plot.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I do frequently. I often shapeshift, fly, use super jumping and super strength, use telekinesis, etc. in non-lucids. I also make use of the belief system "consciously" (for the dreaming mind). That is to say, my non-lucid mind still treats the dream like a dream where it has control. It all feels exactly the same as when I'm lucid, in fact when I become lucid it's not even so much a realization that I'm dreaming as it is more of a feeling that I already knew that all along but chose to ignore it up until that point.

All the time, it's rare and strange that I don't. I just react without a thought, wheres in a fully lucid dream I usually think about what is going on and do things that I would not do otherwise. I call them semi-lucid because I unconsciously understand I can control everything around me.

I do occasionally, but it is becoming more frequent. Aside from dream powers such as telepathy, telekinesis, or shooting energy from my hands, I also experience a more subtle dream control. I will think that I would like something to happen and it does. Sometimes it is as simple as wanting to talk to someone on the other side of the room and then he walks up to me; other times it's more dramatic like thinking it would be cool to have an under water house, and suddenly there is water outside my windows.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work as a dream sign, b/c subtle control like this happens in WR every once in a while, too.

Yeah, and it's WEIRD when I wake up! Like there was one time where I was in an old-style computer store and I jumped 10 or 15 feet up onto the top shelf and started tossing these massive [22"?] CRTs (tube monitors) onto the floor like cardboard boxes, smashing them to pieces. Already that's three counts against physics. Then mom told me to make sure that I reset them as they were when I was done. My reply? "Sure thing, ma!"
      >_<
More recently I had a dream where I and a bunch of schoolmates were on the top level of a 50-foot playplace. I looked over the side and thought to myself that jumping would probably be faster than taking the massive slide down. To test this, I jumped, landed, and then jumped back up. 50 feet. I then told the other guys that I could beat them down to ground level. When they took the slide, I jumped. And then while I was falling I made myself fall diagonally so that I landed 15 feet away from where I should have.

      And I never became lucid?
      That... sucks....

Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week; you have a schedule, a calendar... Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

Actually, when I am non-lucid I have better control when compared to low-level lucids.. (I'm still trying to get the hang of having a controlled, detailed LD, so it's, I guess, understandable. ) An example: recently I dreamt of being in a restaurant with a friend, when my lighter started to smoke, on the point of blowing up, I went out on the street, threw it in the snow, shouting to passers-by to stay away from the lit lighter I hurled snow at it then until it turned into a sort of .. um.. snowy volcano, glowing from the inside. Then I somehow came to the conclusion I could've just used a water charm all along, next thing you know, I was brandishing a wand, being able to control a current of water quite precisely, guiding it through the air.

Funny thing is, I never actually realised I was dreaming.

My non-lucid control always entails me doing stupid things that I probably wouldn't choose to do in a lucid dream. I always forget about my tasks.

Yes, for example, if it happens that someone really annoys me in a (nonlucid) dream, then I often think 'well whatever, this is a dream, if I ignore him he'll just dissapear'. Weird enough, I don't actually realize that I'm dreaming in that situation. As people have said before me, this is what I refer to as semi-lucid

All the time. Whenever I'm being harmed, I somehow know it won't destroy me. Most of the time I am able to be invisible to other DCs and not even realize I'm dreaming but I am very convinced that they can't see me since I have the power to shield myself.

Rarely happens, for me. Although in two dreams this week, non-lucid control actually helped me become lucid. I was on a toppling platform, hoping I'd float instead of fall, and I did. Then I realized I was dreaming, and was instantly transported to a rooftop, the scene of my current dream goal (become a crow, fly around with the crows in my neighborhood). Interestingly, in other lucid dreams I had difficulty transforming, but in this one it was a piece of cake!

I also dreamt people were chasing me through a tunnel. I turned around, held up my hand and said, "Block," and they couldn't move past an invisible wall. Once I was lucid, I consciously decided to become non-lucid again, to continue the dream plot (it was a good'n).

The feelings are more vivid. I just can compare one control that i did in lucid dreams and non-lucid dreams which is flying.
I must tell that flying in non lucid dreams is a way better experience than in lucid dreams. You have a surge of adrenaline which cannot be explained, and more adrenaline comes when you want to land and you don't know how(I was flying over a highway and when i wanted to land i panicked and crashed with all cars).
In lucid dreams you are able to control your flight which is awesome and it's the same feeling as non-lucid dreams but the difference is that in non-lucid you don't know which type of flying you will expect. Let me be more clear: In lucid dreams I can control it but I just could fly like 16 feet. In non-lucid dreams I was able to fly through the space and I went to the moon. Maybe that's the cause why it's more vivid, because you have all the power but unconsciously.

      Excellent question, Nomad!

I think one side-effect of LD'ing is that an accomplished LD'er eventually find his consciousness "acclimated" to the state of dreaming, so that even when your waking awareness isn't present, a part of you always knows that this place you are tight now is not reality.

With three recurring exceptions, I don't think I ever dream anymore without some knowledge that "this is a dream." I had a feeling that I was not unique in this experience, and this thread has confirmed it... pretty cool!

I'm able to use all my lucid powers to the same extent I can in a lucid. However the scenario when I need to use my powers isn't always in my favor and I sometimes doubt myself.
