That's exactly it. Or just concentrate on things that have a strong association with that place.

Are you meant to keep your eyes open while spinning?
Generally speaking, there are two ways to teleport. Spinning falls into the first category, which is basically tearing down the current dream scene and rebuilding a new one. Everything requires your attention to exist in dreams, so spinning disorients you enough so that you can't focus on your surroundings, weakening them. Once you begin to see your desired location, slow your spin until you can stabilize the new location. There are many ways you can accomplish this besides spinning, but the inherent problem is stability. Using this method, you always run the risk of destabilizing the dream to the point where you wake up.
The other general method is some sort of portal, be it an actual glowy portal or a mirror or water or whatever. The dream stays stable, but the problem with this technique is that it's difficult to control where the portal goes. Whatever type of portal you do use, I'd suggest coming up with a way to individualize your portals. Come up with something that you can do to link it to your destination. In theory, you could create a gate system something like on the Stargate television series, but it needn't be that complex. But I would definitely suggest prepping your portals in some manner before use. This will reduce the random destinations and give you a little more control.
