What do you experience when losing a lucid dream?

      Hi people,

I have only had 3 LD's to date, but I have had a recurring sensation when losing my lucid dreams before I wake up.

Whenever I am about to lose a LD I hear a feint rumbling sound in the background and it get's louder and louder and then I wake up.

As I am new to LD's I did not relate this sound to losing my LD but now for my next one I am prepared.

On my 3rd LD, I heard this sound and everything went black, I could hear the sounds of my room become louder (partner snoring) and I tried to focus on my LD, by imagining myself rubbing my hands together - this brought back the image of my LD for a couple of seconds (seeing my hands rubbing together and the floor of my LD), but then it faded again and I woke up.

Has anyone else experienced this? With regards to a feint rumbling sound coming from the distance and getting louder before you wake up from an LD?

If so - this must be a "warning sign" that I am waking up - and to combat this, should I start focusing on my LD more by rubbing hands etc, or spinning, or should I just let myself wake up as my dream has run its time?

      Thanks,

      Ryan

Whenever I lose my LD, it usually has something to do with my eyes. Closing, blinking or focusing on my dream eyes in a LD, etc and I either wake up in real life or I end up in a false awakening.

So waking up from an LD differs from person to person? I.E. I get a rumbling sound in the distance and you focus on your dream eyes?

Interesting Is there any way you anticipate this and try to stop yourself waking up?

Wow, you are lucky, that you can tell your dream is about to end. i never get that kind of warning.

What you can do, is when you realize it's comining to an end, tell yourself not to move or open your eyes when it's over. Then, if you don't move, you stay in REM and will be able to enter another dream lucidly.
This dream will be DEILD and if you repeat this process, you will be chaining them

      Here are two DEILDs tutorials
      Dutchraptor's
Reentering collapsed LD - on the night I read this, I remembered what to do and had my first DEILD (dream exit induced lucid dream) Good luck

I have become VERY familiar with what happens to me when I'm loosing a dream, as i have very frequent lucids but can never retain them long. I know I'm doomed when i can't help but think when the dream is going to end, and then i suddenly switch to third person and everything becomes blurry very quickly. Lucky for me though, i tend to always wake up from a lucid with my eyes closed and not moving, so i should be able to do a DEILD.

Well, as I have only had 3 LD's and everytime I hear that rumble, shortly after I begin waking up... I'm not sure if it's coincidence or it really is a "dream sign".

But if it is a sign - that's cool Like you said it can help me prepare. Thank you for the tutorials, I think I did have a DEILD that night as I believe to have two LD's in a row - or rather I had a non-lucid after my lucid, followed by another lucid (because I told myself when I woke to remember the dreamscape that kept reoccuring).

Thanks for the advice on the tutorials though, definately going to read through them.

      - Jblb

Sounds cool man - I s'pose going straight back into a lucid with another adventure is just as good as retaining one?

I always start feeling two bodies. I feel what I am doing in the dream, and I feel how I am laying in bed. If that happens I used to just stop whatever it was I was doing and do something else, but then I heard about stabilization, and have given myself a few extra minutes that way.

A friend of mine told me that if you "play dead and don't move" after waking up, you can slip right back into lucid. I did that one time, and later learned that it is called DEILD. So yeah, feeling two bodies is what happens to me.

Never heard of anyone getting a rumbling sound before.

For my things either get foggy or fade to black.

I've never heard rumbling but often if I close my eyes when lucid I have trouble prying them back open. I struggle against the blackness and can lose the dream in this way. To combat this I imagine the scene I've just lost and concentrate on materialising it. Sometimes it comes back and I can continue the dream. Whenever I lose lucidity it is through visual haziness or blackness.

With your rumbling, I would suggest making some sound of your own, yelling and clapping, to cement yourself in the dream. I've never tried it, but it could work.

It's my eyes for me as well. I get this overwhelming feeling that if I look away from whatever it is I am focusing on, the dream will end - in a very urgent, scared sense. When I finally do wake up, my vision "jumps forward" into my real eyes.

I just remembered that this happened to me once, every time I blinked everything got darker, and it got harder and harder to keep my eyes open. I don't even think I put that in my DJ since I forgot about it. YAY! remembering things about dreams.

Sometimes no matter what I'm doing, everything will just freeze, even me I wont be able to move or anything. And I'll think what the hell why is everything stuck. Then in an instant I have a false awakening and am on my bed all of the sudden. Other times I'll close my eyes and it makes me wake up. Usually I just lose awareness in the dream and go non lucid :p

It depends on what triggered my attention on the outside world. If it's my over-excitement it's my body which calls my attention. If it's some external noise (family, neighbor, etc) then I start hearing what's going on there.

Whatever I feel, it has no relation to the dream: I start feeling my body lying on the bed when I'm walking, the acoustic is not right, etc.

I usually either wake up or it fades into a normal dream.

I start to feel myself laying in bed, or my vision fades... it doesn't feel like things going dark as much as it feels like everything i see is becoming transparent.

Most of the time when a dream is ending, I tend to lose my powers slowly (if I have powers in that dream). Or if I don't have powers, I usually feel like my legs are stuck, or everything is slowing down.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Often when the dream ends it is referred to as entering the Void, usually associated with the sensation of the dream collapsing or going dark, slowing regaining sensory input from your body, which can be distorted for some people. One of my friends wakes up seeing everything slightly bent, I wouldn't be surprised if your brain is just interpreting noise and incorporating it into a dream.
Like other's have said recognizing when you lucid ends is extremely handy because you can proceed to DEILD. It is however also possible to notice when a normal dream is ending, after Deilding for a few solid months I started to gain a slight awareness before everytime I woke up, and in those few seconds I could remember to not move.
Keeping a dream journal also helps you to remember the endings of dream and will allow you to sketch a clearer line between waking up and dreaming.

When I lose lucidity, it sometimes becomes colorless or grey. It often becomes pixelated too, just like a shitty video on youtube.

      Shouting "CLEAR" fixes that though.

When my LD is going to end, I observe these events:
First the DCs start to behave strangely. They lose their personality and it is most apparent in dialogues. Later my senses worsen. The last sense that works is touch. When I cannot touch things around me (even if I suppose they should still be on the place) I still can touch the ground and myself.
Sometimes I really cannot stabilize. I think that the dream is ending from physiological reasons in this case. Do you think it is possible to actively "fight" against waking up and make LDs even longer and more stable than regular dreams?

In the small few lucid dreams I've had, I've distinctly remembered a sort of fading away. Like, all sounds grow faint, and a large cloud of fog begins approaching me at a rapid pace. Normally, a feeling of terror coincides with it, like I can feel myself losing consciousness. Of course, I've only had a few small instances of this, but it would be interesting if I could combat it.

I experience this as well, after the rumbling sound I jump forward into my "real" eyes and it feels as though my eyes were never closed and I get a small headache for like a split second... hard to describe (like being awoke from a deep sleep quickly - headache for a split second and then fades).

It is interesting to see different people's experiences when losing an LD - thanks for your replies :-)

Maybe someone out there will have same rumbling as me?

Everything usually goes blurry for me and I feel like i'm being 'pulled' out of the dream or it just abruptly ends. To combat this, you should stabilize (rub your hands, spin around, etc.). Try and activate each one of your senses also and focus on the objects around you. Good luck!

I experience something kind of similar. Not a rumbling sound sound or a sound at all, but more of a buzzing/humming feeling that's hard to explain. The same one I get while accidentally WILDing. The world around me fades and I have trouble concentrating on it, it pretty much goes away until I'm not seeing anything anymore, I try to focus on things around me and I do but by then I'm awake and am just seeing the real world.

This, this and this Pretty sure this is what I experience.

      @Mancon:

I tried this once, I remember coming out of a dream (went black) and I could hear the feint noises of the awake world; and I tried so hard getting back in (should have DEILD) I pictured rubbing my hands together and it was weird, I saw my hands, no arms just my hands in this black space, being rubbed together... then a flicker of the dreamscape came back and then faded as soon as it appeared. Was strange, then I woke up ;D
