I applied online for a job and got a message from the recruiter. They were parked on the street in a black luxury car. I got in and was asked where I wanted to do the interview. I said anywhere was fine; you choose.
We drove down into a nearby parking garage, slowly navigating the fluorescently lit concrete rooms with tall ceilings and pillars. I noticed a few people in beige robes and large paper mache masks. I didn't think much of it. We began driving up a steep 45 degree ramp that went up into a soft and fluffy cotton panel in the ceiling. My head was somehow higher than the roof of the car, and I pushed it up and opened it as the recruiter drove us through.
We were inside a cafe, and he drove the car right up to the front door in the lobby and parked. People sitting around with their coffee and laptops stared at us with mild interest. "Ooh, this is such a power move. I like it" I thought to myself. I respected the boldness. "Ok, lets talk." I said. "Tell me about this position. What are the responsibilities, and what's included in the benefits package?" I honestly had no interest in taking this job from the very start, but I was having fun being confident.
He rattled off something about paying four times the going rate for mileage reimbursement compared to their competitor. And mentioned he was told to accept me if I landed within the 30 mile radius. Their voice started becoming scratchy and hoarse, and their form began becoming unstable. I couldn't tell if it were a man or woman anymore. "Ok. But you didn't explain the responsibilities to me." I said. They got a disgruntled, almost painful look on their face, and I watched as they rapidly aged into skin and bones, and then into a plastic skeleton halloween decoration. They fell apart onto the cafe floor.
I looked up and noticed another person in a beige robe and large paper mache mask of a Chinese woman standing at a table in the center of the room. They were placing a plastic mask up against the face of their paper mache mask. I remembered seeing the other robed people in the parking garage, and then suddenly felt incredibly silly. "This is so obvious, why didn't I stop to think about it. This is a dream." I had been so concerned with the story that I didn't stop to think about it.
I ran outside and looked up at the sky. I thought about flying, but I knew it would likely be the last thing I do and I'd wake up quickly. I looked down the road and saw a woman walking in my direction. I ran at her and threw both my fists at her. A strong gust of wind blew from behind me and into her face. It was only strong enough to startle her.
"You think you're all that? That's nothing! You can't do a single thing!" I heard a DC call out from behind me. He was in a fenced in basketball court, and angrily threw his basketball over the fence at me. I easily stepped to the side and watched it roll down the hill. He stomped around the fence and came at me trying to fight. I held out my left hand and cocked back my right in an attempted to make a fireball and punch it at him, but nothing happened. He swung a fist at me, and I just grabbed his arm and swung him around, tossing him down the grassy hill where his basketball went.
