    1. 4 Oct: Stories around actors and actresses

non-dream dream semi-lucid lucid false awakening astral projection

I accidentally get cast for the pilot episode of some tv show. It goes well but the whole team finds out some illegality from the studio or producers and take them to court. We win the legal battle and get a millionaire compensation. But the whole project is disbanded and started from scratch by a new team and a new cast. We meet the new cast and it is full of legends, living and dead, like John Wayne.

An article on a magazine about this portuguese actress who is a fascist and everybody hates. It says she got rich from selling some ideas to television or something, but I get insider info that she might have committed fraud and some person wants to show me the proof. My cousin João M. is driving me in a car along my friend Vera, my aunt Lisa and someone else. We stop at a club right after the exit of a highway to meet this person who is then taking us along in its own car. João asks his mom to let him stay at the club while we go wherever we're going, but she says "no way". We tell her to let him, because he is almost a man and he needs to grow up, but we also warn him about the dangers and tell him to keep an eye, particularly on cougars who might hit on him.

With a study group at a library, one of the girls looks exactly like Emilia Clarke and I tell her that she'll be famous in the future. Everybody looks at me with strangeness and I tell them not to freak out ,but that I know stuff that will happen in the future and know that she will be the main character of a famous tv series that will be on the air for years. The girl first thinks I am insane but then starts liking the idea. But then I remember to ask her name and she is called Sofia Alves and I am like "oops". So then not to give her false expectations I tell her I am kidding and that she is actually just the doppelgänger of that actress. But now she doesn't believe me as she is totally convinced I was telling the truth at first and she doesn't want the fantasy destroyed.

Dream No. 147 - Say No To Depression

The first scene showed me in this Minecraft simulation, I was actually in the world of Minecraft! There I saw Cortex as well but don't remember exactly what he was doing. What I do remember is that I let people stay in my house that I had built.

The dream then skipped to me and my dad who were the cast members for the current series of this TV show which apparently, the director said, was going to be 30 episodes in this series. The objective was for me and my dad each to come up with 3 new tactics to remember things... Each week, it would alternate between us... So one week it would be me and then the other week it would be him, it's like we were almost in competition with each other.

I originally thought that my dad and I were actually going to appear on the show but instead, we had to speak to a script and it was going to be incorporated into an animated cartoon of some sort. I do remember one of the scripts. My dad started off by saying “drag me” and then I said “clean me” and then he said something else and again, I said “clean me”. I came up with this tactic on how to remember how many metres in 4 kms, it was so witty but I've completely forgotten it! Eventually, my mum and brother got involved in the show as well.

Then the dream scene was at Waverley Gardens shopping centre, in the Reject Shop. There was this old lady that kept following me around and I didn't like it. The old lady only left me alone when I had found my family members at the end of the aisles. Something then slipped out of my mouth that I was buying something for LB and that's when my mum gave me a death-like stare. I quickly covered that statement up by saying something like “oh no, I said I was actually getting that for myself”.

The dream then skipped over to a random parking lot. Nearby, my brother approached me and he was really upset. He said he had to see the boss of the TV program in person and that's not a good thing. Then when he left, this car pulled up and out got this boy called James, apparently Ms A was his mum. We are on top, in the parking lot, when he tells me things like how he hates his life and how is really considering going into all these drugs. All of a sudden I start crying and begging James not to do these things. I remember saying something like “there's the pain you're in now but what about the pain that others will be in when you're not here?”. Someone was coming and so I hurries James out of the parking lot. I then woke up.

    3. Two Fragments: Representational Influences

      by , 08-21-2014 at 07:07 PM
NLD, first sleep: Several of us are downstairs in a house at night. The front door is wide open. Through an adjacent window, I see a man sitting on a bench next to the road outside, waiting for the bus. Perhaps he tires of waiting, because after a while he gets up and walks right in the front door. I recognize him as "The Vagrant," a character played by Johnny Depp. He wears white face make-up and an old fashioned suit and hat, resembling a mime from the Charlie Chaplin era. I feel hospitable toward him and offer to let him sleep in the wife's room, as she is not home. (I have no sense of who "the wife" might be; there's something impersonal about all the DCs; they are more like roles than individuals.) Someone standing nearby ("the husband"?) gives me a dirty look for leaving the door open and then telling the vagrant he can stay. I don't openly acknowledge the glance, but gives me a sense of foreboding: I don't know anything about this guy, and I've just offered to let him sleep in one of the upstairs rooms. If he turns out to have ill intent, we'll be leaving ourselves vulnerable when we go to sleep.

Scene change. There are about three of us upstairs now on a sort of balcony, in addition to the vagrant, who is swinging on a rope. He has not said a word since entering the house, and I start to wonder if we should be worried about his intentions. I consult the DM, who is not physically present in the scene: "If I do 'sense alignment', is it blatant?" It feels as though I ask the question aloud, but in a way that does not manifest audibly in the dream scene -- I'm asking OOCly (out of character). The DM confirms that, yes, the effect would be blatant, meaning that I can't cast the spell on the vagrant without him noticing, either because I have to make distinctive invocations and gestures, or because he would be able to subjectively feel the mental intrusion. I don't want to cast the spell if the vagrant will be aware of it, because at this point I already strongly suspect that his alignment is not on the "good" spectrum, and I don't want to alert him to my suspicions. After the vagrant leaves off swinging, one of the other players on the balcony asks the DM if she can use the same effect on the rope that he has just let go of. She's trying to be clever: a rope, obviously, won't notice anything amiss or feel itself being scryed on. However, she seems to be missing the obvious, so before the DM has a chance to respond, I scoff jokingly, "You can't 'sense alignment' on a rope!"

Note: I'm interested in the way dreams can take on aspects of other forms of representation. Mine are often heavily influenced by structural elements from films, video games, and even tabletop gaming, the first and last of which were strongly present here.

NLD, second sleep: The fabric of the dream was very thin and immediately frayed upon waking because I did not keep still enough. There was an elaborate plot that I wasn't able to piece back together. However, I was with a group of people that were playing costumed characters, acting out scenes that were somewhere between a play and a LARP.

Afterwards, an actor who is a dwarf (of the genetic, not the fantasy variety), comments to me about his disinterest in playing out live-action versions of stories he has already filmed or done on stage. "Kid, we want to see it, or we want to hear about it. We don't want to live it. We've already done that."

Note: This dream appears to have been incubated by the thoughts I wrote down after the last dream about the various representational formats that have been an influence on my dreaming. Dream would like to remind me that I left out plays and LARPs. Thanks, Dream, I guess my dreaming is also influenced by plays and LARPs (even if I haven't engaged in either since the '90s). Anything else?
