    1. One Weird Dream

by , 08-03-2010 at 10:43 AM (Purple Trees and Zombies: Trippy Dreams of an Artist/Writer)
I was in my house, but there was a robot in the kitchen, one of those probe-types that would go into uncharted territory. Something is wrong with it, acting funny. A bunch of DC's are there trying to figure out what is the problem. There seems something sinister about it. My cat keeps wanting to go in the garage and lick this weird substance in there. I keep taking her away from it, but she keeps finding ways to go back.

Either the robot goes into the garage, or my cat, not sure. But it licks the green goo on the floor and starts mutating. I lock the door and hurry outside. There is a kiddie pool there with people (same people?) swimming in it. I shout the robot is mutating (cat?). They look back and start screaming. There are tentacles coming from the garage window, sliding down the side of the house, but they are striped like a candy cane (wtf?) I hop the fence and start running through the neighbors yards, and a blond girl is with me. We seek refuge in some guy's house, who's home, and turns out to be a weirdo who makes ritual sacrifices. I remember the interior of his home was in all red carpet and gold accents. He catches the blond girl, but not me. I run and hitch a ride on the roof of a moving RV . The guy inside is talking to a bill collector saying he doesn't have the money for his vehicle. He hangs up and it breaks down. I'm standing there, and one of the people from earlier come over and say it's okay, the robot/cat isn't hurting anyone. The transformation is over.

I go back inside my house, living room, and there is a odd dog there, a cross between a dog and a platypus. It's very playful. Apparently - one person explains - the tentacles were from a cocoon, and it was only defending itself. I keep petting the dog thing and it licks me.

      I wake up.
    2. Starcraft and webcam with G, long winding road

      PART 1 - PLAYING SC2 WITH G

Playing my friend G in Starcraft 2. They don't actually play IRL. This part won't make any sense to anyone who doesn't play...

I was Zerg at some points and Protoss at others... it's one of those weird dream effects where both are sort of true at the same time.

I expand twice with no army, they attack before I can make one and win.

We have a rematch, this time I'm careful not to over-extend myself, I make a bunch of Photon Cannons. We don't get to finish the game for some reason, it ends before any real battles happen.

      ANALYSIS

The thing that stands out most to me is the symbolism of proactive/reactive, or offensive/defensive.

I would say I tend to act in a reactive way around this friend. Perhaps the game was a metaphor for this.

      PART 2 - WEBCAM WITH G

Next, G turns on a webcam. It's starting to get late. They are in some sort of party environment... loud music in the background.

At one point this music production guy that G is working with (in the dream) comes on cam. Short hair, black t-shirt, mid 30s, quite buff. Don't remember anything he says.

      ANALYSIS

This seems to relate to the fact that IRL G "has things going on" in their life, while I'm still at a point of preparing for the future, without much of note happening in mine.

      - - -

PART 3 - WRONG TURN DOWN A LONG, WINDING ROAD

Now, it's dark. I leave the house, presumably where the above scenarios took place. I'm riding a bike, presumably headed "home" (wherever that is in this particular dream world.)

I take a long turn down a long, winding, isolated, spooky road. It goes on as far as I can see. There are bushes on either side. Once, maybe twice, an old guy (60+) passes me going the opposite direction in a car. I'm singing to myself out loud about how I don't want to get attacked.

At some point I realize I'm going the wrong way and turn around, right at a sharp U turn in the road.

As I do, a lanky older guy (40+) with glasses, narrow face and messy brown hair, possibly wearing a trench coat (or I may just be adding that retrospectively) starts following me. I stop and tell him to wait in place for a bit until I'm farther ahead, he does so. I have a rectangular knife for protection but don't have to use it.

      ANALYSIS

I'm constantly thinking about what paths to take in life, planning my future, repetitively reevaluating the conclusions I come to. When I come to a conclusion I often jump "all in"; but often, I change my mind and jump back "all out." All or nothing.

On a symbolic level the first thing that comes to mind is that I almost decided to spend the next year hardcore studying online poker, but decided against it after hearing even the best can often go upwards of a full year with little winnings on a downswing.

Could have been a lot of time and effort spent in a less than optimal way, may also explain the sense of risk.

    3. The dream of the Dwarf and the Killer Box

      by , 06-18-2010 at 07:29 AM (Folqueraine's Oniric List)
Weird fragments of dream, although I woke up during it due to a power cut...

A crime had been committed in my grandparents' house. Sherlock Holmes was investigating.
There was a weird happening every night in the conservatory. Everyone would sit in the dark, and everyone would feel like someone slapped them across the face, but when the light was turned on there was nothing.
In fact the guilty party was a dwarf. His weapon was a box which released a killer insect when you pressed the bottom in a special manner.
    4. The dream of me as a werewolf

      NON-DREAM DREAM LUCID

A man and me (unconscious of being me) leave a pub at night. There is a fight with a werewolf, as there is a full moon, and the authorities come and arrest him.
I tell the man (that I haven't known for a very long time) that I am a werewolf too. He asks why I haven't changed into a werewolf, and I explain that there must be some trigger: anger, fear, an emotional of physical shock... He takes me in his car and suggests taking me away from the authorities (which are seen as somewhat threatening).
I fall asleep, and I have a vision of him waking me up by tapping my arm, and that it will trigger my lycanthropy.
    5. Fictitious Lloyd Bridges Movie PRECONAV-VSCPCEL

      by , 03-10-1978 at 09:10 AM
Morning of March 10, 1978. Friday.

My dream features a fictitious Lloyd Bridges movie that is about a man driving on unusual bridges and overpasses. The title is “Bridges”. It features a surreal psychological theme. The main setting seems to be Port Charlotte, Florida.

The movie explores a man’s obsession with his need to drive over every bridge and overpass in America at least once, regardless of its condition or if construction has completed. He spends most of his time in his goal. He has stress from not getting enough sleep and spending so much time driving. He uses dangerous methods that stem from his desire to create more of a challenge, getting his car airborne at times.

My dream includes divided screens of different sizes with inset videos of his activities. I do not seem to be an active character in my dream at any point, though I do seem present during many of the events, including the last scene.

In the movie’s last scene, he drives fast onto an unrealistic steep overpass which seems dangerous and apparently incomplete. I hear one man say loudly to another (speaking above the noise of traffic), “I just hope he comes down all right”. These unfamiliar men are standing near the side of the road below the overpass. I seem to be looking at the overpass from above just prior to waking, though I had also seemed incorporeal while flying and viewing Lloyd from the side of his car as he was driving it. There is no indication of harm coming to him. I see the movie’s credits rolling as I wake, though the movie’s ending is not resolved.

      Dream influences and other notes:

The main influence was a dream state indicator, though it did not bring about lucidity. This was a liminal and nostalgic focus on “The Deadly Dream”; a TV Movie that first aired on September 25, 1971 and starred Lloyd Bridges. Concerning Lloyd Bridges (January 15, 1913-March 10, 1998), note the curious date correlation of twenty years after my dream.

“I just hope he comes down all right” is a reference to the process of vestibular system correlation as part of the natural waking process.

I explain this dream type and meaning further in “Dreams of Type PRECONAV-VSCPCEL, 01-15”.
