    1. Steve Irwin and the Living/Dead Animals

      by , 08-01-2010 at 03:56 AM
I had this dream a while back, like when Steve Irwin was still alive.
So me and my friend Brittany were going on a roadtrip to Wisconsin Dells. They have this waterpark there called the Kalahari, which is for like little kids but that's not the point. So we checked into the Kalahari, and when we opened the door to our room, it opened into the real live African Kalahari. So we ventured inside, and looked around. We started to walk to nowhere in particular. Along the way we saw lots of different animals like girrafes and snakes, except they were made from paper like origami animals. I went to touch them, but when i did they died. However, their angel spirit floating up to heaven was a real animal. So they were fake when they were living but real when they were dead? Anyways, I cried when they died. In the background Britt was turning into a tree.

All of a sudden we hear a rustling coming from a bush. (Britt is no longer a tree.) We look over at it, and suddenly this crazy guy wearing a comical wolf mask with a huge nose jumps out screaming, "RAAAHRBOOGABOOGABOOGA!!!" We look at him like, what the fuck is wrong with you? He whips off his mask. "AHA!" he says in an Australian accent. Apparently Steve Irwin has found his way into the dream. "I bet I fooled you lassies didn't I? Ha, no, you two youngsters are smart enough to know that the REAL African Wolfhound has a much LARGER snout!" he says as he makes a circular motion around the mask's nose. Britt and I look at eachother like, whats with this clown? Suddenly he's right in our faces, smiling as wide as possible. "Say, how would you two like to join me on a wild Native American horse hunt?" without our consent he throws us each on a spotted white and brown horse, then jumps on his own, and we ride of into the sunset with Steve laughing maniacally.

    2. Train Station in Africa.

I was planning to meet up with MB at the movies. We were going to go watch something and eat dinner and we also agreed that we'd go and rent some other movies out to watch either before or after the movie.

Then I mentioned to someone how I needed to apologise to CH, this girl that I did something mean to in year 7 IRL (I still need to do this one day if I ever see her).

At the train station on the way to the city centre to meet up with MB, there were all these photographs attached to the station platform. They were all photographs of the same thing - some random part of the station platform taken from a specific angle, but each photograph was from a different station. It was kinda cool to see all the differences between each one.

SM and MM were at the train station with me. We saw that the train was approaching, but for some reason it didn't stop at our platform. And this somehow had something to do with Africa being poor, lol. I think the platforms were named after different African cities or countries. And some of these didn't have enough money to fund the train to run to the city centre, hahaha.
As they came from Africa, SM and MM got really angry at this, mentioning something about racism. They went to complain to the woman on the platform, but she pointed them to the train warden in the little office next to the station. It was a man with a paper sign on his back and front that said TRAIN WARDEN. So unprofessional haha. They went off to complain, and I saw that there was a train in the distance approaching. I somehow knew that this train would take us to the city centre.

We boarded the train, SM and MM somehow exited my dream and I noticed that CH was on the train. I really should've gone up to her and talked and apologised to her, but instead I just did that thing where you acknowledge someone's presence by smiling at them, saying hi, and then I sat behind her.

When we arrived at the city train station, CH was walking in front of me and heading towards Baker's Delight (a bakery shop). I followed her and when we got there I THINK I offered to buy her something. I'm not sure though. I remember that there was heaps to choose from. Different slices and things like that.
Anyway, I didn't end up apologising to her :/

    3. Graffiti Sorrow and African Bike Race Fragment

by , 06-25-2010 at 12:06 AM (Sailing the Noosphere)
      1. Mom, my brother, and I are driving around downtown Cincinnati, when I notice some interesting graffiti on the side of a tall building. Everyone gets out of the car and starts to climb the building, eventually reaching an outcrop near the tags. One is simple to interpret and just says "Rage," the other is a design that looks like two capital "A" letters that share a leg. I think that the latter symbol is the tagger's way of representing A=A, the Objectivist tenet. This is backed up when I find (and start leafing through, missing a RC) a philosophy textbook. Details afterward are fuzzy, but the conversation among the family turns to something horrible, and I remember a crushing sadness. The textbook falls and shatters as we climb down, and eventually I start to sob.

      2. I'm watching a movie-style overview of an epic bike race in Africa. Things quickly go over-the-top; one bike is a robotic monstrosity, one is ridden by an ape-man who carries jungle animals with him, and one is ridden by Spiderman. Crazy hijinks ensue, but details are kind of fuzzy.

    4. Old Dream: Breaking A Curse

      by , 07-22-2003 at 04:02 AM
Original entry dated July 21, 2003:

First, I dreamed there was a fire in Tucson, Arizona, and this woman was trying to beat back the flames and save her house, and she wound up getting horribly burned.
Then the dream changed and we lived on the plains in Africa, or it was in Australia, and there were all of these fires, and animals were running away, etc. and as soon as we thought we'd put them out the fire would come back again...

And there were these reservoirs/waterholes... made of concrete, or something... that used to serve some sort of purpose, but now people just swam in them.
Then we were driving through the country in this horribly beaten up truck and stayed in this house... the houses were like 10 miles apart and most were deserted anyway... anyway, the one guy's great grandmother was dying, and they were sure she was gonna go tonight. I'd been being pestered/tormented by ghosts and spirits and stuff and the house itself was actually particularly bad in that respect, but he said to go in and talk to her before she died, about some sort of ritual that was supposed to help me, where I walked down an aisle with my head down and the priest prayed for me... or whatever... I don't remember the specifics, only that it was done a certain way and she knew the right way.
    5. Erin Moran, Frog Queen

      by , 01-18-1979 at 07:18 AM
Morning of January 18, 1969. Saturday.

I am apparently in Africa and it is mostly early in the morning in the several scenes. The landscape does not have many features; mostly tall grasses in sparse areas and slightly muddy both brown and gray ground areas and a small pond or two. There is a dirt road (rut road, mostly) that winds through some areas. A few rusty old abandoned jeeps are sitting around in random locations, one on its side. There seems to be at least two villages in the region, although a bit more like ghost towns and with only a few people. At one point, there is a slight concern about, when driving a jeep, how would you know about a lion coming out from one side of the tall grasses? But that is not really a strong focus for any part. There is also a point at which one road suddenly cuts off just prior to an embankment with a drop of several feet (as such, how could a rut road have developed there - or perhaps that explains some of the wrecked jeeps).

There is something about Erin Moran (seemingly older in my dream) having “two lives” or two separate identities in a sort of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” fashion; one as the young daughter of the veterinarian (“Daktari”), the other as a “frog queen” or even “were-frog” of sorts. I think I see her as such at one point (in silhouette only). No one else knows her secret but me. The frogs are many but not that threatening and mostly seem to cause problems relative to the maintenance of the road somehow (that is, leaving extra “potholes” from their movement over the soft ground). I ride in a jeep and a greenish gray Land Rover (which I never saw one of in real life until coming to Australia in 1994). There is evidence and concern regarding rain causing jeep engine problems and “more frogs coming out” which apparently like to live in the engines when leaving their pond. (It is as if it is “normal” for a few frogs to be in a jeep engine, but a lot more will cause problems. Since frogs hop, this is likely an odd distortion of a hamster wheel upsized to imply running an engine.) Eventually it seems like the towns are completely deserted.

      Key points:

An anagram (though I am not implying that anagrams always mean something) of “Erin Moran” is “Inner Roma”. (My “mystery girl”, who was an exact copy down to the smallest detail, from heritage to appearance to unusual mixed accent, of my real-life wife Zsuzsanna long before I met her, was and is Roma.)

Additionally, to augment the above point, Erin Moran, though a very rare character in my dreams, seemed to be a “stand-in” for Brenda W, who, in turn, was a precognitive “stand-in” for my wife-to-be. Brenda was the only sincere friend (and only mutually intimate one) who remained as such from early childhood on until my move back to Wisconsin (as even my best friend Toby and I had falling-outs at times). Zsuzsanna in fact, wrote a story in her childhood called W’s Dream (using Brenda’s actual last name without knowing of her - in addition to the identical drawing of Susan R’s).

I have already explained the frog theme in another entry to a greater extent but will simply repeat here that it seems some sort of reversal of (certain versions of) “The Frog Prince” story. However, because most features in dreams symbolically or metaphorically represent the concurrent level of consciousness, frogs are also a waking precursor and symbol of the preconscious (unlike fish, which would be the deeper unconscious unless near the surface) because they start out as tadpoles but then emerge onto land, consequentially symbolizing the dreamer leaving the dream state. “Frogs in the engine” validate this, as an engine represents dawning consciousness and the power of critical thinking.

After consideration over a number of years, I have decided that the position of a vehicle in a dream may be a subtle play on physical position in bed though not necessarily concurrent, a jeep on its side being an interesting possible play on spooning (and was validated as such regarding at least a few of my own dreams). Also, I have noted that a car accident in a dream sometimes is a metaphor for a person rolling over in their sleep (which has occurred and been validated in several of my own dreams).

Rust is one of those dream features that is quite rare. Presently I assume it refers to the passage of time or even the decay of the dream state in its last segment as it was as such in metaphor in at least one dream (that being “Wool Into Rusty Iron“, which represented waking from the dream state as most final segments do with multiplicity-based scenarios).

A lion, which there was only a very vague concern about here (and no imagery of one), represents coalescence (as does anything that can either cover up or swallow the dreamer, including sand but mostly excluding water in my case) and the return to whole consciousness. However, the mechanism here did not manifest and my dream became a bit more vivid at that point as a result (that is, higher up into preconsciousness, also represented by the presence of more and more frogs, which has occurred in several other dreams in the same way, one of them becoming fully lucid).

The “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” theme is an obvious play on unconscious vs. conscious or dream “reality” vs. waking reality.

A town becoming less populated or deserted over time is an obvious play on the waking transition.
