I've got the flu atm, and I dreamt a whole bunch of short, disconnected dream fragments over a cycle of falling asleep and waking again. I remembered 4 of them. I remembered a 5th at some point, but alas I forgot it after falling asleep again. In the first, I was heading towards an airport because I had to catch a plane. There was an apparently short route on the left and an apparently long route on the right. I took the short route, but that led to the back side of the airport. I talked to some people to ask for directions, and they sent me on some way which I discovered I would've ended up on much quicker if I just took the "long" route. I'm not sure what made me think the right route was the long one. I did catch my plane just in time! Inside of plane it looked more like the interior of a submarine, however. In the second, I was working on my software project with my colleague. He turned around to talk to me, and pointed to the sky. In the sky I saw the structure of my project, and he pointed to a problematic part in it. He asked if our project was supposed to support smart contracts or not (even though in real life it has nothing to do with cryptocurrency or smart contracts). I told him that my original designs of the system was supposed to support smart contracts, but it's not terrible if we ended up going for a simpler and more limited solution. He said "good, let's go for the simple solution then. we're running short on time, and if we don't finish the project, we'll fail the exam". (Somehow, the whole thing switched from working on a project for my job to working on a project for a college exam.) I suddenly started to feel stressed because I remembered that I had exams to do, and I hadn't studied anything, I only focused on the project, and I'm barely even managing to finish that. I tried to enumerate all the subjects I had to study for in my head. For each subject I remembered, I got stressier, because I wasn't prepared for any exams at all. Luckily the dream was over before the exams started. In the third dream, I was sitting in the living room of another family as a guest. They had 2 tvs. One tv was on the "MTV" channel, where the highest bidder can promote their music to popularize it. Next to that tv was another channel, called "Payback TV". This channel took all the music and programs that were cancelled from MTV, and rebroadcasted them there. I was interested in neither channel, so I went to check out the garage. In the garage there was a bunch of trash, and in the pile was a 3rd functional tv that was on another channel called "Trash TV". It turns out that if a program stayed on Payback TV for more than 6 months, it got cancelled from Payback TV too, and continued on to looping on Trash TV forever. The Trash TV screen was black-and-white. It was playing music videos from a very obscure band that I'm a fan of. I was more interested in that, so I watched Trash TV in the garage instead. At some point I felt like I needed to pee and took a piss in the trash pile. Then I awoke, feeling that I need to pee in real life, glad that I didn't accidentally wet my bed! After the toilet break I fell asleep one more time. In this dream I was looking for a solution to a caching problem in my project for work. A solution had been proposed to archive every page as a static html, rather than rendering it anew every time it's visited. However, there was a problem that the application I'm making is a very context-sensitive - the system behind the user permissions is very complex. So each user basically gets to see a different view of the page. I imagined every possible variable in the context as a dimension in a multidimensional grid. I imaged a process running constantly in the background, trying to fill all the cells in the grid with caches, evaluating a priority function to decide the next cell to cache. I imagined cache invalidation as the clearing of a whole row in either dimension. The background process tried to catch up with the cache invalidation as fast as it could. As I imagined this visually, it turned from an idea into a video game. The player is the cache and tries to fill all the cells, while the difficulty lies in the computer frequently clearing rows of the grid. Since it was simply a grid of coloured squares, the game looked like an Atari 2600 game. It was a very annoying game to play.
Dream - Lucid I wrote down the words "Texas toast" and "3 sisters" in the middle of the night, but I remember nothing about it. ~ I was on a trip with my family and some extended family. I was sitting on a couch in a room. An ex-cousin (he was the son of my uncle's ex-wife) who in IWL was really mean to me when we were kids was there. I had a feeling he wanted to tell me he liked me and that he could now that we weren't family anymore, but I don't remember if he did or not. I was hoping he wouldn't. Then, we were going to go somewhere in Oregon that had a warm beach (I don't think there's a warm beach anywhere in Oregon), but we had to camp in really cold and snowy parts of California to get there. I remember my brother being there with me. We were in the snow, and night was falling. You weren't supposed to be out of your tent at nightfall because it was dangerous, and because it would get way too cold. There were other people around camping as well. I believe everyone had separate tents. I was thinking about how it would get so cold, you'd have to really bundle up in layers before you got in your sleeping bag for the night. It's like there was a special way you were supposed to dress to sleep so you'd be warm enough. We accidentally stayed out after dark. We were by an extinguished camp fire. All the sudden, this huge beast came out of nowhere and started to eat people out of their tents! The beast reminded me of Nunu from League of Legends (of course there's a League reference here ). My brother and I thought we were screwed; there was no way that beast wouldn't approach and eat us too. He then calmed down, though, and went into a tent to sleep. This was our chance to safely enter our tents without waking the beast. I grabbed mine and picked it up and started to carry it to a location further away from the beast. The beast then came out of the tent again. A speech thing appeared above his head that said "I'm starving!!!". He grabbed the person out of the tent next to him and ate him all in one bite. He then went back into his tent. Hopefully, we were safe now. ~ I was on break at work. I was taking my temperature with a digital thermometer. I put it in my mouth, highly doubting that I had a fever. I walked around and did a couple things while taking my temp. It beeped and I took it out to look at the screen. Wow! It said 111.12. Well, I guess I did have a fever after all. I touched my forehead and it was quite warm. I wasn't supposed to be working with a fever, but I didn't tell anyone yet. I was then clocked back in at work. I was talking to someone else who worked there, a guy, who, when I think about it now, seems familiar but I can't remember who it is, about my fever. He then asked me which thermometer I used. There were 2 or 3 digital thermometers lying about, and one old school glass thermometer. I picked up one of the digital ones and gave it to him. He put it in his mouth to take his temperature. He put it under his tongue weird though, so I wasn't sure how accurate his would be. He was looking at my calendar that is on my wall IWL while he waited. He then finished and gave the thermometer back to me. I took my temperature again. This time, I took it out, and it said 3.35. What? Maybe I didn't have a fever. Maybe I had been standing too close to the oven when I took my temperature before. Hmm... I was then in the back with an old friend, Dakota. He was washing dishes. There were three different 3 compartment dish sinks back there, each used to wash a certain type of dish. I knew the deli used one as well. I don't remember the type of dish he was washing; it was some kind of white container-looking thing, and there were a lot of them. He was showing me how to do it, when to move it to another sink, etc. I wondered which one was the deli sink. ~ I was riding around on this red push lawnmower by holding onto the handle and standing on another part of the handle. I was outside of an apartment complex. I remember passing a black man whom I think also mowed the lawn before. I was going around the parking lot. I then went to the side of the building and pushed the mower into these long, clear plastic boxes that had plants around the outside of them. When I pushed the mower in, the plants would instantly become shorter and trimmed. Nothing fell off of the plants; it's like I would take the mower out, there'd be a short delay, and then part of the top of the plant would be gone. I kept doing in again and again in one box, making sure I got all the plants. I don't remember if I moved on to another box or not.
So I'm starting this again (again). This one was short since I decided to write it down an hour after waking. I was at some theater party. We were all at some very expensive house that was modern with lots of concrete and stairs and awkward levels everywhere. The main actor was a guy I sorta knew and half of the guests were others from my school who I sorta knew and everyone else was a mystery to me. Most people there seemed to be 4 years or so older than me. It was night time and the house was next to the water, as in out f several doors you stepped out onto a cement dock. There were 2 incidents where cats walked out and fell into the water for various reasons. As soon as they hit the water they would become as stiff as a board and their fur would expand like a mini airbag. They would stay there and float. I went out to get one and as soon as I came in range of a cat, the closest car snapped to my shirt, slightly scratching my chest. I was kinda freaked out to grad the rest of the cat. I woke up.
Strange fever dream. They are so hard to recall and they make no sense. My aunt lives in a trailer. I decide to travel with her in it. A lot of the things that happen are things that happened in my childhood but distorted into an odd dream like way. Hard to describe. Ugh... In still sick. That's all I remember. I need more sleep...
This whole adventure stared with a normal dream that I can't remember the details of, and lead into a false awakening. I woke up the same place I had fallen asleep, on the couch, to my roommates L and S and S's family getting home from the Chinese New Year Parade. I turn to tell S my dream, but in stead she mocks me for falling asleep instead of doing my homework. I told her I didn't plan to sleep for long, and she asked when the paper was due on the story I was reading. I told her there was no such paper, I just had to read the story. She gave me the face of "sure there is no paper" and began to walk away. I decided to write my dream into my dream journal and that reminded me to do a reality check. I pinched my nose shut, closed my mouth and was able to take a full breath. "Oh my God! I am dreaming" I say with excitement. For awhile I was just nerding out that I knew I was dreaming and the dream began to shift. I looked through the house and saw sections missing. Not like the walls just weren't there, but a loss of detail in the dream. I if I had painted white over it with photoshop. Not many of the things in the room were retaining their detail. I thought it might be because I was not able to retain all the information within my conscious mind. I began to wonder what I should do. I could do anything. I turn to see my roommates S and M on the couch. I turn to M and say "hi" in a silly way. (It almost a ritual irl to keep saying it over and over each time getting more silly) She turns and looks at me with a blank, neutral stare. Clearly not interested in socially interacting with me. I am not phased (for I am used to that irl) I say hi again in an even more ridiculous way. She smiles and says hi back, waving in a cute way. I start to tell her that I am in a dream. I decided not to try and convince her she is not in a dream, I just feel like I needed to tell someone . I open my mouth to speak, and words come out in a soft raspy whisper. It was very similar to loosing your voice. I thought of a speech from a brain scientist I say on TED.com where she has a stroke and is analyzing herself from the inside out. There is a particular part where she is unable to understand language that reminded me of it. (which I found interesting upon awakening that I was drawing from my rl memories) I try to talk a bit longer and words become a bit clearer, but I decide to move on to try other things before my dream collapses. I turn to see M's computer in the living room. It is playing mabinogi (her fav MMO RPG) by itself. I think, that maybe she is just set on follow, since we have made the mistake before, but at a closer look it is actually fighting and wining. After deciding that that was awesome I step away from the screen to find that nearly the entire living room has disappeared. I feel exhausted, and I begin to have trouble focusing my eyes. I decide to concentrate, and begin to think of what everything looks like so that nothing collapses. It did not take long for me to feel back to normal and for the house to be restored. I again decide to move on. As if to answer the question of what to do next I begin to float in the middle of the room. I smile, totally thrilled, because that is the main reason lucid dreaming is appealing to me, flying. I continue to float until I bump lightly into the ceiling. I giggle at the amateur nature of my flying, but decide to try anyway. I open the window, and begin to soar into the peaceful, foggy city of San Francisco. I almost start to cry I am so happy. I am lead into another false awakening. I wake up on the couch again to everyone coming home and I begin to tell S about my lucid dream. She does not seem as excited as I expected, but I am having trouble telling the story because I am super hot and fumbling over my words. I feel sick and she seems to think I am also. She makes the comment that if I ever think she looks like she might be sick it is because I am sick. I remember saying that earlier (not irl) and realize I must be running a fever. I am unable to move most of my body very far, so I ask her to help me up. She grabs my hand and pulls me to a sitting position, but I only fall back down again because I can not keep my body erect. I try to get off the couch, only to sort of slither with my blankets onto the floor. I still can't move. S then asks me bout my lucid dream. I tell her about how I did a reality check. I actually went through the motions, but purposely left space so that I could really breathe. (I wish I hadn't because then I would have known that I was dreaming ). After I explain about how the world was not there, it seemed like it had been photoshoped away, she begins to say how I am sick because I am working to much, and how I need to slow down, yada yada yada. I begin to defend myself and wake up on the couch. I do a reality check immediately to find I am awake.
