non dream - lucid - non lucid

I am in the countryside, walking up a path which leads to my house. (I have never seen this place)
The path leads up to the top of a small mountain.
The area isn't very populated, so I don't encounter many people on my way up.

I finally reach a small street, my house is at the end of it.
There's a few more houses, maybe 12 or so and a water fountain in the middle of the street.
For some reason I am attracted to the fountain, it is very beautiful, but I don't really know why.
As I approach it I start to question my surroundings and quickly realize that I am dreaming.

I am happy to have become lucid, but the feeling quickly vanishes.
In front of the fountain I find a dead wolf. He seems to have died because of a deep wound on his neck.
I feel odd. Seeing the dead wolf makes me kind of sad.

It starts to rain. Has it ever rained in my dreams? Does it rain because I am sad?
The sky starts clearing up and it stops raining, rays of light start poking through the clouds.
A small bird emerges from the light and lands on the fountain, looking at the wolf.

I have seen this bird before! It is the same as in the Dr. Who dream!
The bird looks at me for a few seconds.
Then he switches his attention back to the wolf.
He spreads his tiny wings and they start glowing in all kinds of colors.
Some glitter emitted from his wings lands on the wolf.

The wolf comes back to life and looks at the bird. They exchange a few thoughts, the wolf is thankful that the bird saved his life.
He runs away. I am amazed by what I just witnessed, but I still feel somewhat weird, although in a positive way now.
The bird takes off and lands on the hand of a girl.
      I recognize her, It's Faye!
She looks different than last time though, but her aura is clearly the same.
She has long brown hair now and shimmering green eyes.

"What have you learned from this experience?"

I remember that WakingNomad has asked me this question a few times.

      "He's a phoenix..."
"Yes, he is, so what does this mean?"
"I don't know... what does it mean? We are in my dream bubble aren't we?"

Faye gives me an affirming nod.
She acts very mysteriously. Yuya sometimes does that as well.
I kind of like it though, I've always been a fan of mystery.
She wants me to keep thinking, I'm supposed to come to a conclusion.

"So this phoenix, he is part of my imagination?"
"A projection of your subconscious the people on your forum would say."

I think this is the first time a DC has made a direct reference to DV.
Faye talks about how in my dream bubble, everything that I don't actively create is a projection of my subconscious.
I already knew that, and she knew that I did, but she's trying to make a point.

"So where does this idea of a phoenix come from?"
"That is the question. Knowing the question is half of the answer."

I really like the way she is speaking, it is so mysterious, yet it is very clear that she is leading me onto the right path.
I look at my left arm and spread my own wings, which I use to navigate the dream plane.
I remembered correctly, the wings on my left arm do look exactly the same way as the wings of the phoenix.

"When I use these wings to teleport, that is actually a phoenix ability."

I say this more as a realization than a question.
And after saying it I know that I am right.
I can use these wings to move through the fabric of space and easily navigate the dream plane by doing so.
I can also heal other beings, but the ability is far too complex for me to do anything major.
I could never revive someone, not even a very simple being, such as an insect.
The sheer amount of energy this would require is beyond my imagination.
I remember that I have used these abilities many years ago in my dreams.
My vision is blurry, I assume the dream is about to end, I feel like I should thank her before it does.

"Thank you, I have indeed learned many things from this experience."

I say this quite awkwardly, I am a bit shy.
Faye approaches me and whispers into my ear.

"I am your dream guide you know, this is what I do, maybe you should ask me for help more often..."

non dream - lucid - non lucid

I'm in my room, playing with my budgie who is out of his cage.
(This is actually the guest room of my old house, but in the dream I believe it's where I currently live.)
My budgie is sitting on my index finger when I notice there's another budgie in his cage.
Weird... I take a closer look. My budgie takes off and joins the other one in the cage.
I guess he found a friend
? (Felt like a reasonable explanation)

I suddenly realize that I'm late for 'the party' and open the door to leave my room.
It leads directly to some sort of party, in an absolutely huge place.
It looks a bit like a casino, but with all the machines and tables removed.
      There are cocktail bars everywhere.
Everyone is dressed very nicely. Men are wearing a costume or even smokings, and Women are wearing fancy cocktail dresses.
I'm here because my company celebrates the release of a super successful game which I've worked on.

(I don't work yet, still studying)

A lot of people greet me, and I have no idea who they are.
This makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, and I decide that I need a drink.
I approach the center bar and order a brandy, because it's my drink of choice.
(I don't usually drink strong stuff, and I've never had a brandy)
It's strong, but tastes good, I get a warm fuzzy feeling all over my body.
I turn around and look at the crowd. A little too many people for me to feel comfortable.
I feel a bit out of place, but at the same time I know exactly how to act and I'm quite confident.

I notice a women next to me at the bar. She's wearing an all red silky dress. She's hot, really hot!
I take another sip from my drink and say hi.
She recognizes me as the lead game designer for the game "Teraluna".
      Sounds about right?
(I knew Teraluna meant something more, but I couldn't think clearly and ignored it)
No wonder everyone knows who I am.
She starts flirting with me which I enjoy. She's moving really fast, after a minute she's practically throwing herself at me.
I'm pretty horny at that point and decide to leave the party with her for half an hour, nobody is going to notice.

I leave through the same door I entered and I'm back in my room. There are a lot more parrots now, 7 maybe 8.
The girl doesn't seem to find this surprising at all, so I assume the parrots appearing out of nowhere is a normal thing.
I realize I don't know her name, and I feel a bit bad, but once she takes her dress off I have other thoughts on my mind.
      We have sex...

... I get dressed, she says she'll wait a few more minutes before rejoining the party. Makes sense.
I leave my room and I'm in a corridor between my room and the party.
(It wasn't there before but I don't notice)
A man storms through the corridor and stops abruptly next to me, sliding a few more centimeters over the floor.
I recognize him, he's the doctor
(Matt Smith) wearing his usual outfit.

"Parrots everywhere! Hi! I'm the doctor! You're wearing a bow-tie! Bow-ties are awesome!"

I get the urge to ask him "Doctor who?" but I think it's stupid.
But then he looks at me curiously. He's moving around me quickly, looking at me from different angles.

"Aha! Everything makes sense! So it is you!"
      "Me?"
      "Yes!"

      Confusing as always huh?
He takes out his sonic screwdriver, it's clearly broken and makes a pathetic noise.
I'm starting to think at this point. The doctor? does he exist? Well, he's right there isn't he?

"Yes, yes, you're getting there, think think think!"

What? What is it he knows and I don't?
      He points at my head:

      "We're all in there"

I finally get it... mostly. I realize that I'm dreaming, but I'm not 'fully lucid'.
I understand that this is a dream, but I do not understand that the doctor is a fictional character, I believe he's really there, I believe that he's in my mind.
He explains that something went horribly wrong with the Tardis, and they ended up in my dreams somehow.
He opens a door, and sure enough, the Tardis is hidden behind it.
The doctor explains that he broke his sonic screwdriver, and now he can't fix the Tardis and they're trapped.

      I suddenly get an idea.
      "Check this out!"
He looks at me with a confused face.
I reach into the left pocket in my jacket, searching for a sonic screwdriver, and sure enough, there it is.
I take it out and hand it to the doctor.

      "You're a genius!"
He runs into the Tardis and starts fiddling about with the screwdriver.
I enter as well out of curiosity. I find it funny that the only thing I can think of is "it's bigger on the inside".
He says that he's lucky to have ended up in the mind of a lucid dreamer.

      "It's working!"
He says he has to leave immediately because Amy may be in trouble.
My sense of adventure kicks in.

      "Can I tag along?"
"God no! Don't you realize? That would be ONE HELL of a paradox! You'd be leaving your time... from within your mind, without your physical body!"
      "Right."

I step out of the Tardis. As he closes the door behind me he says:

"The mistery of the parrots. It still needs to be solved! Good luck!"
The Tardis vanishes in it's usual fashion.

I decide to go back into my room to check out what's up with the parrots.
The girl from before is gone. I understand that she vanished because I forgot about her.
However the room is full of all kinds of parrots. There are hundreds, in all kinds of colors.
There are some types of parrots I'm sure don't exist in waking life.
Oddly enough, I know what to do. I scan the auras of the parrots, and I immediately sense one that is far stronger than anyone else's.
And not just by a bit, it's stronger a thousandfold at least.

I search for the parrot in question and end up finding it in front of the window.
It's absolutely tiny, maybe half the size of a budgie, with blue feathers.

      "Hello little bird."
He looks at me for a bit, then back at the window. He spreads his wings and the feathers on his body start changing colors.
It's beautiful! He glows in all colors at the same time, I've seen this pattern before!
It's the same one I have on the wings on my arm when I teleport.
I summon my own wings, and feel how the bird starts moving through the fabric of space.
      I follow him...

(Pretty sure I shortly lost consciousness here)

... I'm flying though the skies, following this little blue bird as it travels the world.
My mind is blank. I do not think, I just follow.
After some time the bird lands in a sand desert. There's nothing else there, the place is dead.
I land next to the bird. He looks at me for some time, then he starts walking towards the sun.
With every step that he takes, plants grow out of the sand exactly where he just stood.
Grass and beautiful flowers grow right out of the desert.
I think that "he creates life", I conclude that he must be a phoenix.

I follow him for a bit, by now he has not only created grass and flowers but also small rivers.
So small, yet so powerful, what an interesting and wonderful being...
    3. High school, food, and advertising galore!

Awake, Non-lucid, Halfway-dream thingy, [Commentary made while awake]

I'm in Phoenix for another regular get-together with a group of friends. Jack M. has an extra ticket to this themed dinner themed around the Goosebumps books by R.L. Stine, so he invites me to go with him, and I do. The dinner is served at a really long banquet table in a long, elaborately-designed banquet hall. Every year, they make a quilt to commemorate this themed dinner; the walls of the banquet hall are decorated with quilts from past years.

I'm with my mom in a kitchen, and she declares her intentions to make the oddest variation on “Mexican” food ever. It involves mashed sweet potatoes. We make this strange dinner and serve it to some dinner guests.

WBTB at 2:43 A.M. Took notes on the above two dreams.

I'm in a science classroom in the A building at my old high school, and science class is in session. I'm a student, and all the other student seats are filled with other students, except for the two which are occupied by my parents. I explain to one of the other students who they are, including explaining that my mom was an English teacher at that school until she retired. [True in reality.]

I'm eating a piece of pizza from BJ's, and discover that the restaurant has slipped an advertising flier into the pizza between the crust and the cheese. There's a little piece of paper towel resting directly on the crust, and on top of that is the flier, which is folded up and printed on glossy paper. It is printed in English and Japanese, and the largest, most noticeable text reads “Oe!” (Japanese for “Hey!”) in hiragana. [Awesome, I can read hiragana in dreams just as easily as I can in real life. That's pretty cool.] There's also a little cloth bag, similarly hidden in the pizza. I don't know where it comes from, but I also find a little gummy candy shaped like a Charmander; it looks a lot like the little plastic Charmander figurine that I have in real life, except more elongated.

WBTB at 4:32 A.M. Took notes on the above two dreams. I also have two notes from this one that say “afternoon nap with P.” and “breakfast with Dad – oatmeal later on,” but I really don't remember those dreams at all now.

I'm back in the A building from the aforementioned high school, in an open meeting area off of a main hallway. There are some tables set up in a rectangle, and a bunch of people my own age are sitting around them. One of them is my friend Kevina from Florida. We're doing some kind of activity that requires us to get up and move around the area. While we're doing this, I accidentally bump into another girl who's a little taller than I am, and her chin sort of gets caught on my shoulder for several moments. A third girl gets out some drawings that we all did at a previous meeting of this group. Impressed, I remark about how organized she is. I take my drawing from the stack. I tell everyone that I have to leave the meeting now, because it's 10:00 and I'm late. [For what, I'm not sure.]

I'm in an airport that I've been to several times before. [...in dreams. I still don't clue in that I'm dreaming when I find myself in these recurring dream environments.] There are separate security lines for men and women. I point this out to my dad and tell him that he can stay in the line I'm in, but he'll get some weird looks. There are freestanding, light-up advertising signs in the airport, kind of like there are in real airports and malls, except that this one has an LCD screen. The text on it is saying something about how clear and sharp the text that particular brand of screen can produce is, but I don't find it all that impressive. [LOL, I think this might have been my mind trying to tell me that I was dreaming...]

[This next part doesn't really count as a dream, lucid or otherwise, because I wasn't fully asleep. I knew the entire time that I wasn't fully asleep, I was fully aware of my real body, and I'm pretty sure I was deliberately imagining at least some of this rather than dreaming it, hence the different color and the past tense.] I was on a street somewhere, and I wanted to go into a particular shop. It was closed, so I decided to get in by climbing through the closed window. It actually worked. [For some stupid reason, dream!me is absolutely bound and determined to master the skill of walking through solid objects, even though waking!me would prefer to work on having longer-lasting lucid dreams and accomplishing the Task of the Month.] The interior of the shop was kind of dark; all the walls and furniture were made of dark wood. I went to one table and started experimenting with turning over a pair of miniature hourglasses, one with sand in it, the other with gold dust in it. I noticed that the gold-dust one was running out faster, even though they were the same size. Then I realized that I could feel something grainy blowing onto my hand. Then I looked more closely at the gold-dust hourglass and found the little hole near the top of the upper chamber, where some of the gold dust was coming out and getting all over the table and my hand. When I saw this, I went, “Oh, crap.”

    4. 6,000,000 Levels. 2 Companions. 1 Diablo.

      by , 07-11-2010 at 02:01 PM (exdreamer's Dream Journal)
Key: Non-Lucid, Lucid, Commentary/Notes, Hypnagogic Hallucinations

I was a hero, or soon would be. Tasked with defeating the almighty Diablo atop his tower, I prepared for my quest. A magical bird warrior, Phoenix, had been sent to accompany me; offering both his companionship and some much needed combat experience.

Phoenix was a bright orange bird. His back and the rear of his wings were covered in a blue armour plating -- it appeared to be natural. I got the sense he was young for his species, but somehow very wise by comparison to myself. The journey ahead would be treacherous and I was glad that I didn't have to travel entirely alone.

We set off on our quest, and before we knew it we neared the top of Diablo's tower. Victory was within our grasp; all that was needed was to fell the demon.

I could see the sky as I walked along an exterior stairway leading to the flat circular roof above. It was dark and purple clouds swirled around menacingly. Occasionally there was a flash of what seemed like lightning, but there was no accompanying roar of thunder. Silence is all I heard. I grew anxious as I climbed the stair, but it was not warranted.

A man greeted me and was very quick to inform me that I needed to gain another 6,000,000 levels in order to defeat Diablo. In the distance, across the other side of the roof I could say the demon lying in wait. He was a fierce looking beast, not dissimilar in shape to a dragon with no wings, perhaps 60 or so feet in height as he stood on all fours. His skin was scaled and purple, and his head was horned and protected by a frontal dark grey layer of natural armour. I knew at that moment that despite the terrifying spectacle of the beast that lay in wait, I would train longer and harder than ever before and return to slay the beast after gaining another 6,000,000 levels...

Phoenix and I returned to the world below. We had not completed our goal, but we knew exactly what we had to do. Waiting for us was another bird-like creature. His name was Garr and he bore a striking resemblance to my companion, Phoenix. Unlike Phoenix however, his armour plating was much thicker and covered a greater amounts of his body, including parts of his face. He looked strong and stood proudly on his legs, which were unusually muscular. Phoenix on the other hand flew everywhere and rarely stood up right like this other bird creature.

The two birds spoke for a while. I gathered that Garr was Phoenix' father. Somehow I sensed that Garr was a great warrior, and was disappointed with his sons failure. I requested that Garr join with us on our next trip up through Diablo's tower.

We left for the tower again and again it seemed like we were immediately climbing up the stairs to the final confrontation. I felt stronger now. I had surely gained more than 6,000,000 levels in the time since I was last hear -- I could feel it.

The same man was there and he told me that I was still a few levels short. I was having none of it though and decided to take on Diablo now. I knew I was ready...

And then, as with all my favourite dreams, it ended prematurely. I wish my dreams had proper resolutions, especially when they follow a narrative that is stricter than usual.
    5. Whale Man

      by , 11-04-1985 at 05:04 PM
Morning of November 4, 1985. Monday.

This is a somewhat distorted dream in terms of activity and themes. The main aspect of this one more vivid section is seemingly running from an area where there may have been a shooting of a president or mayor, though I am not sure if the person was killed. It first seems like I am in Wisconsin and then suddenly in Florida, running from the southwest to the northeast through my Cubitis backyard. It almost seems as if I had been involved somehow though I am not sure of my dream’s backstory.

At one point, where we used to have bonfires (a little more towards the southern section of the weedy area prior to the railroad tracks), there is some sort of implied epiphany of a “whale man”. The “whale man” is actually better described as a typical merman, I suppose, except that the bottom half is like a killer whale or orca, and the top half is a man. The theme is seemingly relative to the phoenix (only very loosely). Perhaps the politician was shot and returned as this being, or he was always like this (and thus I cannot be guilty of any possible crime), I am not sure. It also seems as if I am looking at a political poster for a short time. The part that is manlike reminds me of a young version of Walter Mondale. He seems suspended above the water with the whale tale in a slight arc. I think he actually may be running for president and as a Republican. He seems friendly and cheerful. I am not certain of his political values or standing. (In real life, I hardly ever thought about politics.)

There is probably a rhyming association with “whale” and “Mondale”. It is also possible that the whale represents a new political party relating to better ecological policies.

This dream is type ECA (subtype acc: parallel accompaniment). Here, the emergent consciousness is already coalesced into the last segment as the hybridized “whale man” (or merman implied to be aggressive on the bottom since the tail is of a killer whale or orca, but cheerful on the top; an atypical ambiguity). However, the phoenix essence is also very clearly implied as the reintegration of full consciousness, especially as the merman rises from the area in my Cubitis backyard where we had bonfires. The ambiguity of the hybridization was caused by dream events involving, firstly, the death of a politician (bottom layer - aggression) by the transition (top layer) of the phoenix concept - or politician’s “resurrection” (conscious self emergence as a cheerful epiphany)

    6. Phoenix Abigail

      by , 09-13-1976 at 04:36 PM
Morning of September 13, 1976. Monday.

I go out to the backyard in my dream and to the area we have regular bonfires and find that my bearded bantam Belgian (a breed of chicken) has gotten loose. I pick her up and she is very tiny. However, I understand that she is a “Hungarian quail” (my father for some inexplicable reason had began calling it Hungarian instead of Belgian with no cue form me) named Gabrielle (instead of Abigail). This was one of thousands of precognitive facets related to my future marriage and life; my wife being from a Hungarian Romani tribe and whose middle name is Gabrielle. My dream was on my wife’s birthday so this is even more validation.

This idea is likely at least partly related to the (archetypical if one cannot accept the reality of precognition) “wife as phoenix” theme (recurring and related to my other life-long dreams). The hint is that I found her in the ashes of the bonfire area and she somewhat resembles some images of the mythical phoenix which I had seen in reality. Abigail also had black “ashy” feathers on her back in real life. This was the day I returned to high school (tenth grade) after my operation, but I did not go to any classes or seek information (and just sat around in the open lunch area).
