    1. #188. Sarcophagidae

by , 02-24-2011 at 05:34 AM (Things to Run Away From Really Fast)
      02/22/11

Three people sit around a table. Two of them are dead.

The bodies are slumped at awkward angles, twitching. Under their skin, tiny creatures mass and swarm and crawl, and at any moment, the meat-sacks will burst at the seams and the kitchen floor will be flooded with blood and tissues and squirming maggots.

A little girl sits in the third place-setting, quietly finishing her homework.

They play hopscotch on the sidewalk, and they make fun of her. They don't know what she could do to them, what she's about to do. Calling through cracks in the sidewalk, calling up all the little things that crawl.

She doesn't realize that she's raised a hand, fingers stretched out, until another hand is closing over hers and forcing her arm down. She turns and meets the cool stare and raised eyebrows, and knows that the black-clothed child is other, like her.

This "Samael" has a job offer for her, and so she follows.

      Sarcophagidae. Scare Factor: 3.

    2. Dreamviews, and An Epic Quest

      by , 01-17-2011 at 04:40 PM (Hazel's Boiler Room)
Took 100mg of B6 before I went to bed last night, then another 100mg during WBTB. I also decided to do my self-hypnosis technique, but that didn't work out very well when my cat kept stepping on me every five minutes.

      1- Dreamviews of the Future
((Note: this was a very abstract dream and most of it is really difficult to put into words.))
Dreamviews is a physical place; I am exploring all of their new "features." I walk past a long line of people carrying musical instruments, whom I discover are all trying out for the new Dreamviews Marching Band.

Next, I am looking at some dream journals. Each journal is it's respective member's private home, or inner sanctuary. I visit at mine first and am somewhat disturbed to find a long and very explicit dream written out for all the world to see. Why would I post that in such detail?

I think of where I want to go next. I have been talking to Alice (from Resident Evil), and we have grown to be pretty close friends. So I decide to see what her journal is like. I should have known; entrance to her journal is painful and treacherous, as it is guarded by an imposing mound of thorns. Her "inner sanctuary" is more like an internal Hell, imprisoning her within her own dark thoughts. Poor Alice... I want to comfort her, but she resides in the very core of this prison. The dream ends as I am working my way towards her.

      2- Saved by the Goddess
My getaway will be simple. Ditch these clothes, change into the ones left over by those imbeciles, and escape through the window. I have thought of everything; except, however, drawing the shades. One of the Emperor's cronies has spied me from the open window and has called for backup. My means of escape has quickly become my downfall.

I leap out the window anyway, and break into a run. There is still a chance I can get away, though now it will be far more difficult.

I make it as far as the road, a dry stretch of unpaved dirt, before I am surrounded. The Emperor and his men have me covered on three sides; the Dark Forest, brimming with werewolves and other man-eating atrocities, stands imposingly to my remaining side. They do not expect me to risk such a fate.

An Elven girl a few years my elder, one who I used to call Sister, grabs my arm and secures a handcuff around one wrist. "Come quietly, Princess. There is no way out." Before she can cuff my other wrist, I kick her roughly away, dodge around the Emperor's men, and take off into the forest. They dare not follow, but they don't need to. Almost immediately I am faced with a Hunter; a soul-sucking once human that reeks of fear and decay. One of the Emperor's favorite pets. He actually sent the Hunters after me? I don't know whether to be hurt or flattered.

Rather than have my soul taken, I quickly dart back to the edge of the forest where the trees are less dense. Hunters, along with all the other forms of Demon-spawn, would burn in this light. However, it also means that I am once more vulnerable to the soldiers...

To my amazement, a voice in by head booms, "Stay behind me!" Suddenly a large brown creature is running in front of me, which I recognize instantly as one of the envoys of the gods. I follow him without hesitation as he guides me through the treacherous forest. The sound of the soldiers' bewilderment from the forest's edge makes me smirk.

One out of the forest, I am met with one of my comrades at the outskirts of an old town. It is nighttime now, and avoiding the Demon-spawn will be more difficult. The envoy wishes me luck and is gone.

As soon as he disappears, we are attacked by a small shadow creature. A church is nearby, emitting light from it's stained glass windows. I throw the creature into the light, but it merely cackles. "That won't work on meeee!" it screeches. "I am not a mere shade! HE gave birth to me from his very flesh!" The creature flies directly at my face. I hold it back as my companion opens a vortex in the ground, which makes quick work of the enemy.

"We need to get inside," I instruct. But as soon as we enter the church, we are met by something potentially more dangerous than shadow creatures: crazed religious fanatics.

"Witches!" the ladies cry. "Burn them! Kill the witches!"

"Wait!" I protest. "We just want shelter here, same as you."

The ladies continue with their cries of death and burning until the oldest of them calls them to silence. She looks at my friend and I knowingly and points to the wall. "What does it say?" she asks me.

A single, three letter word is etched into the wall. Her. I repeat the word with some amusement. This church was once a temple to the Goddess. How ironic.

The lady details a story in which Merinia, an earth Goddess, was kidnapped and taken prisoner by the Demon King. Her power could easily have defeated the demons, if only she'd had her staff. The sacred object, however, had been stolen from her and lost somewhere in the world.

I stare at the lady in shock as she hands me a beautiful, intricately carved staff. "Is this...?" She nods.

      "Save her," she tells me.

I exit the temple/church. Demon-spawn emerge from the ground almost instantly, but the incredibly power of Merinia's staff kills them all with a single blow. I am in awe.

Time passes. I have rescued the Goddess (though, it's more like She rescued me), and am now celebrating with my friends.

((Note: I don't think the name in the dream was given as Merinia. I know it started with an M, but I couldn't find an actual earth based goddess with a similar name, and since I couldn't remember it I had to make one up.))
    3. Huge creatures and train stations.

by , 08-20-2010 at 03:11 PM (Visions of the night)
      8/20/10

Last night had this dream..real brief.

I am going through train stations.. they were above ground and I was walking across the tracks to get to the nearest station.
Other people are there too and they were doing the same thing. I look behind me and see this huge creature from a distance.. it was white and brown.. resembled a gigantic turkey but it was some sort of creature/dinosaur.. really couldn't make out what it was but it was destroying things and people. This creature is blowing fire and every time it got close I would climb down to an underground station and wait till this beast scream and destroy people and things.
I kept moving forward through train stations. I find what looks like my father's ex wife but don't make any notion that I know her or recognize her. I am standing in front of a toll booth in one of the train stations purchasing pills.. they came in clear tubes. It said "Advil" and I had told the woman who looked like my dad's ex wife that I wanted to play a song so I begin to sing.. a bit of it .. :" I'll be dreaming of you tonight.." I was singing it to make sure she gave me the right song.. so she gives me it in form of a pill.. the "advil" pill falls and I can see this creature on it's way. I climb back into the underground track with this song pill in my ear playing loudly.. the song is by Selena Perez

    4. Curse of the Kraken

      by , 07-26-2010 at 01:35 PM (Hazel's Boiler Room)
      7/26/10

I supposedly had a really epic lucid last night, according to a fragment I have of telling someone else about it. Unfortunately it is completely lost.

      1- Curse of the Kraken
The apocalypse is approaching. Or so it seems as I stare in horror at the huge wall of water about to wash over me. The wave crashes down upon me, but I manage to grab ahold of a whale serenely floating by. I am relieved that I didn't die. The water retreats back to the horizon, where I see it sit, waiting for a more opportune time to strike. It wants ME, specifically. Buy why? ((Note that I live half a day away from the ocean.))

Throughout the dream it takes many more shots at me. I can't sleep, for fear that I will be dragged off to sea! Somewhere along the line I end up traveling with some people who are sworn to protect me. We are camping out in the forest, thinking it to be a safe place. The girl and boy I am with (who seem to be anime characters from two separate shows) are arguing about whose tent I am going to sleep in. My bodyguard tells them to shut up or take a hike.

      I drift off to sleep.

My thoughts begin to narrate what happens after that. "I thought I would be safe in the forest, but the water came for me while I was asleep. It picked me up and dragged me away. When I woke up, I was alone and lost. I had to spend a week in the hospital, but I'm okay now."

Back to the live action. The ocean had grown tired of trying to drown me, so it sends a Kraken after me. While I am on the run from it, we learn the hard way that all who touch the water from now on will become a Kraken as well. People are turning all around me, and I'm chopping them up with a cleaver. The curse gets smarter. Now the mini Krakens are able to turn back into humans, but they still contain their evil souls. My best friend is trying to kill me with an axe!

Then something amazing happens. As I am talking to my friend, trying to plead with her to fight this madness... it actually works. Reason returns to her eyes and she drops her weapon. I realize that this must be why the ocean is out to get me. My voice has the power to break the curse of the Kraken!

    5. The Dogerpillar (The Thing in the Room / Warehouse)

      by , 09-28-1978 at 08:01 PM
Morning of September 28, 1968. Saturday.

I am sent to a warehouse-like area during school hours (even though I sense it is a Saturday - as it indeed is in real life) west of the school (West Elementary) and across the street to get a couple of textbooks, I think for other students (and perhaps one for myself). It is fairly dark inside.

A large “dogerpillar” crawls slowly near me from another part of the warehouse as a mist seems to rise up from the floor. There are shades of cyan, purple, white, and orange, and, terrified it will reach me, I stand up on a large crate just barely out of its reach as It is unable to lift itself, and can only crawl horizontally, which is an in-dream “relief” to me. It is at least a foot high or more and about five feet long. It starts making a strange, short mournful whining sound and I start to try to imitate the sound so that the creature will think I am one of its young (or one of its kind at least) and move on elsewhere. I continue to stand on the box making the sound in a somewhat worried state. Originally I had written “After awhile, I think that the creature may end up thinking that I am its offspring and may want something from me or to properly feed me! It seems there may not be a real way out.”

I am less afraid near the end (but still have an odd in-dream “faux end of the world” nervousness), but am concerned about missing reading class, and am wondering why they did not keep such a weird creature locked up. There is sort of a concern that I may never get out, but I slowly wake. (Oddly, there is no stronger thought of attempting to run away, even though the creature is very slow in its movements.)

Upon waking, I had found out (from my mother) that I was making a similar sound (vaguely like “vumpadump”) for several minutes before waking from the very vivid dream. (I have heard from some people that a person is unable to make sounds or speak in syllables when dreaming, but like almost everything else I have heard about dreams - it personally turned out to be wrong.) It is possible that the creature was partly based on the one from “The Monster That Challenged the World”, which I saw on Rose Street when about age five.

The very first dream journal title of this was “The Thing in the Room”. Someone who saw it (David K) said the title should be changed to “The Thing in the Attic”, which was pointless, as it was not an attic, so I later changed it to “The Thing in the Warehouse”. Because of what it looked like (a giant caterpillar with a weird dog-like head), the final title was “The Dogerpillar”.

This was not the first version of this dream. See this link: http://blue-opossum.tumblr.com/post/...ditional-notes
    6. The Biomagnetic Monster

      by , 10-27-1975 at 04:27 PM
Morning of October 27, 1965. Wednesday. Supplements added on Sunday, 23 July 2017.

A large hairy light brown monster opens a door at the very start of my short dream but seems about normal-sized for the doorway. About twenty tiny people (“tiny” as resolved in conscious afterthought only), all adult men and women; most nude, some dressed; are clinging to him as if he had magnetically attracted them with his fur. He seems annoyed, apparently not wanting all the people hanging on him, but this is only my first thought as a couple other ideas form prior to waking. I do not feel threatened as I seem to only be watching my dream even though I do seem to be at the location.

It seems to be taking place in my sister Marilyn’s apartment on 901 Rose Street, the creature coming into the room from the west side, though the floor seemingly has floorboards as seen in a Harvey “Casper the Friendly Ghost” comic book. There were no discernible features in the room, as if it was mostly empty. For a very short time, it also seems that some of the people may be trying to tackle the monster, but there is also a conflicting thought that the monster may be deliberately gathering the people with its magnetic fur to perhaps cook in a stew. There is no backstory to the scene. The monster stands in the doorway, growling as if possibly annoyed by “wearing” these people and my dream ends with a slight abdominal twitch (which is not unpleasant). It is apparent that the monster does not see me, though I may be invisible or incorporeal.

Dreams often render “impossible” scenes that cannot be resolved consciously. In this case, my dream self perceives both the doorway and the people as of normal size. However, each person would have to be less than a foot tall to resolve the scene.

This dream is a curious and intriguing blend of two forms of waking symbolism, and in fact, taught me a lot about the nature of dreams as well as remaining a facet of why I devoted my life to understanding them.

Coalescence waking symbolism: Near the end of a dream, as in this case, ambiguous elements sometimes combine, which represents different neural energies unifying by way of the emergent consciousness event (as this dream expresses the real-time metaphor of “gathering thoughts” during the waking transition). It is a function native to the dream state.

Doorway waking symbolism: As a doorway is mainly real-time exit symbolism (other than when it is used to initiate apex lucidity), a dream’s rendering of a doorway means nothing more than the dream changing in level of awareness or ending. To conceptualize that such waking symbolism evolved from my mother being in my bedroom’s doorway waking me up in the morning as a child may be moot, as such symbolism might have developed naturally, because waking up is a biological necessity.

Biological factor: Though this is only theoretical, my dream may also contain an analogy of white blood cells attacking a parasite, not necessarily relevant to my physical status, but my sister’s. (Dreams, including precognitive dreams, revealing the changing status of another person’s health, have occurred a number of times throughout my life.)

Personal factor: It is known that the preconscious sometimes represents a parent (or other relative or any role of authority) regardless of the nature of the rendering. If that is the case here, it seems that it could be seen as motherly discomposure over a child being too clingy.

The original title was “The Magnetic Monster”. In 1974, when copying my oldest dreams over to newer paper and notebooks and with more mature writing and better organization, I changed the title to “The Biomagnetic Monster”. It is doubtful that I had heard the word “biomagnetic” prior to that.

      • It has been validated that doorway waking symbolism is sometimes initiated by real environmental noise while I am sleeping. This adds to the likelihood of having otherwise evolved from my mother waking me up in the morning.
      • The involuntary abdominal muscle movement upon waking is most common with doorway waking symbolism. I can actually trigger this event while conscious by placing myself in a heightened state of anticipation.
