    1. January 9 - A New World (First Lucid, DEILD Method)

      First, the dream starts off with me hanging out on a beach with my family and a couple of friends, except this beach is weird. There's nothing but lots and lots of sand, but it still has this feel of a beach, and we're all dressed and acting as such. While I'm chilling out on the sand, I suddenly get freaked out because of this huge spider I see. It has more eyes and legs than a normal spider and is literally almost the size of a small dog. When it hits the sand and dies, I wake up.

      Realizing now that I was dreaming, I went back to sleep and remembered that there couldn't be a spider like that and realized inside of my dream that I was still asleep and having a dream. Since the spider seems to have come from another world, I decide to discover one. I move the spider from it's spot on the sand, and dig a hole where it once was. When I step through, I'm standing on another little strip of sand right beside of a large ship. There's a medium sized strip of deep ocean water going between where I am and another strip of sand and another ship. I walked across the large gap of ocean and opened up the side door leading inside.

      I immediately walked up to who I knew to be the ship's Captain. The Captain turns out to be one of my friends. He explains to me the nature of the world I've walked into: All industrialized life including pets lived on this one giant ship I had found. All wildlife and extremely dangerous animals were all amphibious and lived both in the strip of ocean and on the small strips of sand I had found. On the ship, nobody ever fought and there was a set rhythm to things. My friend then turns to me and opens his arms around us and says, "Welcome to a new world!"

      I had a dream about pancakes and waffles. Yes. I could taste the pancakes very well and they came in different flavors; but lets start from the beginning.

      I was walking on a bridge, torn apart, barely hanging by the steel wires and supports. Little islands of concrete floating on the steal strands on the bridge. Next to me, I see people riding motorcycles with a floating text above their heads which stated an addon for Left 4 Dead 2. Suddenly, more ads for Valve games started appearing, then I noticed a small bar across the bridge. When I got to the bar, I found they were serving pancakes and waffles. This was a crowded bar and I finally managed to grab a seat. As I looked at the prices, I noticed it was in the thousands and there were Japanese letters next to the price. The currency was sand, so I assume we paid in grains.

      This is a little chart I remembered from my dream. It's the price list:

      PANCAKE: 3500, 15000 [Japanese letters/words]
      CARAMEL: 3600, 4100
      CHOCOLATE: 3800, 4600
      [Various other flavors] [Prices]

      I'm not sure how we were supposed to count the grains of sand in order to pay, but it makes perfect sense in a dream, so the amount just sort of appeared when I let the sand hit the bar.

      I also noticed about the bartender, he is the same bartender in the embassy lounge in Mass Effect. Except this bartender was wearing a Hawaiian shirt.



      Anyways, weird dream. Tasted good though :]

      Notes:
      My friend dared me to try writing an understandable message in my next lucid dream, so I decided to make this a priority instead of my current lucid goals.

      The dream began with me standing out on the sidewalk. I was in an area of the city that looked very much like the photograph below, standing on the sidewalk to the far right. I edited the photo to contain the colors and atmosphere of the area as well.


      There were only three or four people, I realized, as I scanned the area. Almost immediately I knew that I was dreaming, but I was a bit skeptical (as with many mid-level lucidities) so I looked at my hands. This reality check failed, as both of them only had five fingers that looked close to normal. I then did the nose-plug reality check, however, and it worked perfectly.

      I looked around, dream-spinning slowly to prevent the dream from destabilizing. I saw the buildings beside me and a person standing behind me, looking uninterested. I then remembered the task my friend told me to try out in a dream, so I turned around to look beside me, expecting a sandbox to be there. It was small, around sixteen square feet in area, but it would work. I picked up a long stick I summoned just by reaching down and "knowing" it would be there, and began to write in the sand.

      I improvised what I would write down. The lines the stick made were wider than they should have been, but I still managed to spell something out. The letters looked like letters, which turned into words that looked like words:

      "Yo, this is rad" in capital letters.

    6. Dune Buggy

      Morning of June 17, 1972. Saturday.



      In my dream, which is fairly long but with no real plot, I am somehow in control of a dune buggy (or “dune buster”) that is a full-size version of the Sand Crab model I had gotten as a gift months before. I am mostly disembodied yet somehow still the “driver” of the vehicle, usually “flying” or floating to the left of the dune buggy from at least five feet away, sometimes more. It seems to be early afternoon for the most part. The setting does not seem to be a beach, but rather a large desert-like region (though still with the sense that the ocean may be around at some point even though I contemplate the Sahara Desert in the back of my mind). There are no people around at any point.

      A desert in this case, as associated with a beach, seems to represent the liminal state between sleeping and waking, that is, the ocean (of the unconscious) and the day to day waking reality. This “beach” is much larger than a typical beach. My dream did seem long and with many partial awakenings. Sand dunes have appeared in a number of my dreams and seem to represent the changes of the dream state itself, as well as sand also being associated with coalescence.

    7. Mole People Beach

      Night of January 1, 1972. Saturday.



      This dream was the rather unfortunate result of having seen some of “The Mole People” (from 1956) and “Bikini Beach” (from 1964) on our black-and-white television in Cubitis on the same day (though I only saw about the last half of “The Mole People” as I got up too late - about eight o'clock - to see it from the beginning - though my mother had watched it from the beginning yet did not think much of it except for mild amusement, I thought). In my dream, Annette Funicello is in the main role of the fictional in-dream version of “The Mole People” and apparently her boyfriend is one of the mole people though looks fairly normal, and there is a scene where the slightly more human-like heads (than the creatures in the actual movie) are sort of moving side to side with their bodies otherwise buried in the sand at the mostly featureless beach. There is something somewhat ambiguous about the scene in that it seems more like a foreign desert at one point than an American beach, though it does not seem to be horror; only some sort of low-key drama. I only remember about three distorted fictional scenes, which is typical of such movie-influenced composite jumbles. What a way to start the new year (1972), as my mother used to say.
