    Fragment of Dreams

    1. 6/5/14

      by , 06-05-2014 at 04:31 PM
This is a dream fragment from this morning. Been a while since I dreamt of the beach.

I am standing on a sand dune overlooking the ocean. My dad is beside me. The dune is maybe 5 feet high, and it's damp. The sky is dark and cloudy, as if it's been raining or is going to. I decide to go down the dune to stand on the beach. I look down at my feet as I go. I'm barefoot, and it's high tide; the water is right there at the bottom of the dune. It's clear and cool, and a few inches deep. I wade around for a little while, and then I climb back up the dune - not noticing that my footprints from before are gone - and I rejoin my dad.

    2. Hotel Rooms in Germany

      by , 06-05-2014 at 03:23 AM (The Kestrel's Dreams)
      June 04, 2014

I was with Zukin on a bus (in Germany, I think. But I'm not certain). We sat in forward-facing seats on the left side in the back half of the bus, and our bags were to our right in a row of left-facing seats that lined that whole side of the bus. Those seats were elevated by two steps. The bus seemed abnormally wide.

The dream fragmented here. We must have gotten off the bus, and were now in a hotel room. We started talking about a reading assignment for a class we were both taking. We had to read part of a book I've already read (I get a very strong feeling that it was the Hunger Games), as well as the first 100-or-so pages of another book, which I'd never heard of. I hadn't known that we needed to read the other book, and the class was meeting tomorrow. It was already late, and so I asked Zukin to just summarize that book so far, but she refused to tell me what it was about.

Another fragment; I had spilled something all over me, and so I went to the hotel room's bathroom to take a shower. Zukin asked me if I was going to "take a real shower in the morning," to which I responded: "This is my shower."

After my shower I changed into my PJs and then I woke up.

    3. Stars, Velociraptors and Baseball Bats

      by , 06-04-2014 at 07:48 PM
Fade-in to the middle of a baseball diamond. The sky is dark, no stars to be seen. Two dream characters are with me as we run to a little shed, the feeling of fear heavy in the air. The shed is made of wood and metal meshing and full of baseball bats. The two DCs slam up against the shed and start fumbling with the lock. I wait behind them and turn around to see two raptors on the other side of the field. With a crash, the lock falls onto the ground and the door to the shed opens up, baseball bats roll down into a pile on the ground. Both DCs grab one. I turn to look at the bats and look back onto the field just in time to see a DC smash a raptor in the chest with a bat. The raptor flies back 4 meters and ends up in a crumpled heap on the ground. The other DC smashes the second raptors head to the ground. We run down a hallway in the side of the stands at the baseball field. At the end is a golf cart which we get on. -black- It's just me now, and i'm on the highway with a gun that resembles the portal gun. I look to my right to see a field of green grass with animals(dinosaurs) resting. I fire of my gun and a big circle of yellow clear energy shoots out. It splits into many little circles of the same energy and all life in the field is just obliterated. -black- I'm in the middle of an old overgrown forest, looking intro the sky watching shooting stars. They look like alien ships landing on earth.
    4. Pilots' Handbook Not Included

      by , 06-04-2014 at 12:24 PM
I was only able to sleep for about 4.5 hours tonight, but managed to have a lot of dreams. To begin with, I was out in a field, with several other people. One women, older, with red hair, was laying on a towel commenting on how her faith was strong, and she believes will carry her. Everyone else was ridiculing her to some degree, except for Steve Carrell (who was using his persona of Michael Scott from "The Office") who said he had an answer. Upon hearing this, she said something along the lines of, "Ha! I told you my faith would pan out," but it turned out Steve was merely interested in the same question, to her dismay.

Steve also used his influential wealth to landscape the field into these tunnels, where we would find God ("faith," though I'm assuming he was referring to God). At this point I was the only one, carrying a flashlight, and exploring the tunnels. I would turn the flashlight into dark corners and see large beasts instead. The first time, I stumbled across a tiger, and immediately ran further into the tunnel, where I came across a spider that could spit fire. Unfortunately I hit a dead end, but the tunnel was extremely high, and I began climbing to get away. When reaching the top I see rungs of a ladder bolted into the wall, which is more metallic than the dirt wall 10 feet below.

While hanging on the rungs another spider is watching me, and shoots out corrosive pustules. The previous spider also finished climbing up near the corrosive one, and began shooting fire. I'm not entirely sure how I was doing it, but I was returning the fire and pustules in a way similar to Link and Ganondork in Ocarina of Time until both spiders fell down below. After stamping out some of the fires on my shorts (in particular the shoelace piece of some gym shorts), I'm aware that I'm dreaming- I'm not entirely sure what the trigger was but things became a bit more clear. I started looking around and was aware that the rungs of this ladder only started really high up. As someone who doesn't like heights too much, I became a bit nervous but decided I would just take the leap. I hyped myself up, reassuring myself this was a dream, and jumped.

As I fell, the entire place started taking on a texture similar to the ladder and transformed into a airplane hanger. I began flying around (the first time lucidly), noticing the pleasant feeling in my stomach as if I just dropped, very similar to the initial jump when skydiving. During this time I used the means of flying as a sort of dream stabilizer, constantly telling myself I'm dreaming and moving around through the air very quickly, using a swimming motion. I could also float without making any large movements, and would reassure myself I was dreaming in this manner as well.

At some point I land on the ground and I stand before a fighter jet. The man in the jet already got out of the plane for me, and began strapping me in. I did not request to be velcro-ed in, and double-checked that the man also had to do the same thing. I again became a little nervous about flying, as this time it would be much higher, but lost lucidity shortly beforehand. While in the jet (no longer lucid), a group of plane stewardesses were standing by the jet. I reached out and started touching them, talking to one women in particular who seemed to know me.

An unknown amount of time passes, and a documentary of some sorts starts playing, recounting the tales of some guy with a funny name in a fighter jet. It appeared the man (who was me in the past) successfully flew the plane and afterward founded a school, dying later at a ripe age of 80 something. I remember "new" me walking around the place, not particularly impressed, and stopping before three men. One man, bigger than the other two, with glasses, was standing around and trying to talk to one of the guys, who was on the phone. The third man, a much older gentleman, was trying to convince the guy on the phone they should talk together. I had a feeling that the man on the phone and the man with glasses were about to achieve something, and I was given a window on which to observe the start of the achievement. I do remember the man with glasses was a bit uncomfortable, telling the guy with the phone he should be more willing to make friends.

As I continue walking around, I end up on a cliff of some sorts and there was a friend I had, playing next to a computer, transformed into a 6-year-old. I approach him and we began talking, me in a way I'd talk to a kid learning about computers, and him as an intelligent six year old. Next to the computer was a joystick of some sorts that I tried plugging in so he could play a game of planes, but the power wasn't working. We end up talking about lucid dreaming, and he tells me that he recently had one. I recounted the one I was flying in earlier, though it doesn't occur to me I'm still dreaming.

I walk past him into a house, and enter my living room at home where my mom is currently measuring the status of her pregnancy (she isn't actually pregnant). I was surprised by the notion of being the oldest of three after the birth, especially considering my mom wanted to rush it as much as possible. By the end of her tests, she concluded the baby's heart was 7 times larger than my mother's stomach, which meant things were progressing at the expected rate. Later on I help my mom package these sushi rolls, though we used packaged meat instead of seafood. My mother wanted the rows to be placed tightly in a container, so that each row touched the meat of the other rows without folding over. I had no idea how to do this, and she remarked it as me being scared (i.e. "Don't be scared of the food" which she often says about things when she wants me to be more forceful with something).

I don't remember how I got here, but I ended up running around in my high school (circa 10th grade), and running by some people I knew. When going down the stairs, an old friend knocked down a pencil, and followed me telling me I dropped it. I thanked her and went to use the bathroom where I decided I wanted to pull a prank. In the stall I was only wearing a shirt, holding a pair of boxers and pants in my hands. Through the stall cracks I see someone that I pranked using this method, and he sees me. I'm self-conscious about being naked on the lower half, but conclude it's not a big deal and start talking to him. During this process I put on the pants. I have no idea what the prank was.

Lastly, I have an overview of Fenway Park where the Yankees (7 runs) are playing the Red Sox (6 runs). The game was close, and everyone was idolizing "Big Papi" (David Ortiz) who, though it seemed doubtful at one point, managed to get a grand slam and somehow scored all 6 runs. Everyone was cheering, and a riot of people with signs commending him was forming outside the stadium. During the 7th inning stretch (presumably), my view followed the Red Sox, and, more specifically Big Papi. Somehow he ended up standing before a podium, decked out in a confederacy uniform. This did not surprise me, nor warrant my attention- I simply made a note of it.

Considering I haven't been lucid for a good amount of time, and the night where I first post here I end up being lucid, I think this site has a lot of potential, at the very least in making me more aware of my dreams. Looking forward to more!

    5. Dice fight

      by , 06-04-2014 at 07:10 AM (The Kestrel's Dreams)
      April 15, 2014

This dream is all fragments but it was so random.

I was in a class and forgot my materials, but apparently that had happened many times before. I still got the answers right so I got to stay in class.

One of my German teachers, Andy, was the teacher of that class, and we were all speaking German.

After class I got into a dice fight with a classmate; he was my adopted brother I think?
We were literally throwing huge dice at each other and swearing vehemently.
    6. Building Bridges

      by , 06-04-2014 at 06:11 AM (The Kestrel's Dreams)
      March 17, 2014

My family and I were on a long road trip; I can't remember where we were headed, though. I only really remember one part of this dream; we were driving through a wooded area in the mountains, and suddenly the road lead us to a bridge that had broken away years ago. We were stumped for a while, but we found a pile of good lumber nearby; it looked like people had been getting ready to rebuild the bridge but has suddenly stopped, leaving all the lumber there years ago. It was old lumber, gray, but still good and strong.

So we rebuilt the bridge. Bob, Erik and I did the work while mom and dad tried to find people or a place to stay for the night in case we didn't finish in time.

      The scenery was really vivid, but hard for me to describe;
it was wooded mountains (it reminded me of Mirkwood forest from the Hobbit) like I said before, but at the same time it was also a bit like a desert mountain with lots of spikes of red rock and arches under which the road wound.
    7. Basically an Orgy // Three Times in One Day?! // Huge Dumpster-thing?

      by , 06-04-2014 at 04:20 AM (The Kestrel's Dreams)
      February 23, 2013

I had a childhood friend who, when ever he got excited or worried or had some other strong emotional response to something, would get super strong, but if he used too much strength, he would go berserk and forget who he was. He would be uncontrollable and unstoppable. Unless I stripped him and then kissed him, apparently. Oh lawdy. I think what was going on was that I would give him my energy and it was a calming energy.

We were both working in this huge building made of glass. It was a surreal place with lots of suspended floors and pillars. Some of the glass was see through, but some of it was reflective, creating a really optically illusory space that confused anyone who didn't know where they were. There was a sort of disaster like an earthquake, which made a lot of the building break; there was also some sort of evil genius who was trying to find my childhood friend in order to get him to go berserk and destroy everything. People were dying all over the place because of glass shards all over the place and missing floors you couldn't see.

I went to find my childhood friend because I knew he would be in a bad state. When I found him he was getting ready to smash someone's head in. I didn't reach him in time to save that person, but I reached him and started tearing off his clothes while sobbing. He was trying to get at someone else and hit me in the process, but then I kissed him to fix him, and I swear it turned into an orgy then. It's embarrassing, but that's how it happened: We started making out and he started to take off my clothes as people gathered around to watch. It was so strange that people were watching as if it were nothing.

A second dream I had that night was much different:
I was with my brothers, who will forevermore be known as Bob and Erik, at a restaurant in some little town in the middle of nowhere. We were visiting some family friends, and my mom was going to come meet us at the restaurant and pay for the meal, since we had no money. WE knew the people who owned the reastaurant, a bit, so when mom didn't get there after a few hours, we sat outside the building to wait for her, so the owners wouldn't think we were dining and dashing. By the time she did get there, after many unanswered calls and texts from us as well as from dad who had joined us but didn't have his wallet to pay, it was already lunch time and so we ate there again for lunch.

My mom and I were sitting at a separate table from the boys, and we braided each others' hair for some reason. I believe I had a salmon but I can't remember what she ordered.

By the time dinner rolled around, everyone wanted to eat there AGAIN but I refused to eat in the same place three times in one day, and woke up.

After falling back asleep for half an hour, I had a fragmented dream about being with my family in a huuuuuge metal dumpster-shaped enclosure. There were rooms and hallways all along the walls of the enclosure, and I remember climbing a ladder in one of the corners until we reached about half-way up, and stepped out onto a ledge overlooking everything. From there, we went on a jog around the perimeter of it, but I woke up after a minute or two of running.

[[ Note to self: It seems that many of my dreams have spoken words, but no actual dialogue. Like... I know what people are saying, but they rarely actually say it in the dreams. ]]

    8. Chocolate Coffee with Noodels?

      by , 06-04-2014 at 04:01 AM (The Kestrel's Dreams)
      January 22, 2013

My middle-school orchestra teacher, I'll call her Mrs. Thomson, was organizing a reunion for my year's orchestra. We were going to play a song that she'd composed for us for a reunion concert; I didn't learn the music. I went to the concert completely unprepared and messed up big time, but people still liked the concert.

Jasmine, whom I actually met in middle-school Orchestra because we both played Viola, was there of course, and her mom was too. Her mom made me chocolate coffee with noodles in it, and it was surprisingly good (note to self: Try this some time, see if Dream Kestrel has good taste buds).

A fragment of the same dream I remembered was playing Fire Emblem: Awakening, and battling two new characters to obtain them. These two new characters ended up falling in love in my game, but there was another male character who was in love with the new female character... But she loved the other new one, and so the other guy was depressed and lost all his battles. It was apparently the birthday of the new guy's, so we threw him a party!
    9. Not drugs

      by , 06-04-2014 at 01:19 AM (The Kestrel's Dreams)
      December 05, 2013

This one's mostly fractions. (I'm copying some more recent dreams into my DJ here; the ones I put into the notes on my iPhone. It's usually the closest thing at hand when I wake up and want to record a dream)

I was with my roommate, who I'll call Kristin. We were in a shop at a mall with strange, wavy white floors. We were on the second floor, and apparently the store had no stairs, so to get to the floor below, shoppers had to jump from displays to display until they were at the ground level. It was like a giant jungle-gym inside the store. We had asked an attendant how to get down, and she had looked at us like we were stupid while she explained all of this.

The other thing I remembered was being in a fantasy world. I was in the bathroom with the group I had gone to Germany with. We were doing something in the bathroom, but I can't remember what it was. I noted that it was "NOT DRUGS."
We all separated and Zukin and I met back up in a large room with lots of people in it, and then went to find one of the group, who I'll call Rick.

That's all I remembered from this dream when I woke up from it, and honestly I don't remember much of the second part now.

    10. Dream journal, first entry

      by , 06-02-2014 at 01:41 PM
The dreams I had last night were the first I recorded and I hope that explaining them this way will train my subconscious to be aware of dreaming. I don't quite understand the technicalities so excuse the vague language. I didn't have a pleasant dream last night and I know it wasn't at all lucid because I was definitely cast in the role of the victim where things happen at me.
I had returned home from university but there was a school event I needed to go to, looking back this doesn't make sense at all, anyway that added pressures of the very everyday that seemed to have heightened importance; finding a pair of matching socks, not spilling cups of coffee, making sure plans don't clash. I remember very stressful situations, two members of my family were in my bedroom and seemed to take up all of the space which made me anxious. Then I went to a theatre type space, very large and crowded with many members of the audience heckling the person on the stage. The events was over and people started petering out of the room until only a few were left. I left the room and then there was a corridor with stairs going down different levels which I started descending the stairs and I remember hearing a very large man following me. He was singing so I could hear how close he was behind me. I remember running down, and this is how I know I was not in control, because it was almost as if my legs weren't moving the way I wanted to, I could feel myself willing them on but also my senses were blurred and I couldn't see but still hear this man's singing and feel him getting closer. I reached the door to the front row of the lecture theatre where I knew people, and safety, would be, but he caught my foot as soon as I was in the room and I was suspended up in the air at that very moment. Then I woke up.
I wouldn't say this was a nightmare but then I don't really know what makes a nightmare. It was a very pressurized, terrifying dream and when I woke up it was unsettled. I'd really like to be able to have reality checks in those kinds of environments so I can make decisions and do cool stuff, but I would also like to have greater sensual awareness because I do feel the scariest part was the dislocation of not being able to see at all. Moreover, I don't normally get anxious when I'm in large crowds, and I welcome people into my room rather than feeling that they are invading it. Sometime I feel like the person in my dreams is completely different from myself.

    11. Castle Crashers

      by , 06-01-2014 at 06:43 PM (balban's Dream Journal)
      Dream Fragment
I don't recall much other than the environment was like a top down, 2D castle maze that I was moving through. And the whole time, I kept hearing South Park's Cartman screaming "GO, KINGS! GO!"

I woke up a little annoyed. I felt a sense of urgency in the dream and hearing that over and over was really irritating.

    12. 6/1/14 - Drunken Sailor

      by , 06-01-2014 at 02:24 PM
The first dream is a blur. All I remember is my mom and myself looking at a cat lying outside our window. He fell, but we heard him land on his feet. Another, smaller cat came up to us afterward.

I was half in a video game and half in real life. I was on a trip somewhere with my class. A couple of things happened. I rode a tiger in third person. When the trip ended, we had to go home on a boat, but it was a bunch of platforms that came one at a time. While I was waiting, I started singing "Drunken Sailor" and a few people joined in. Eventually, everyone was singing and dancing, but my feet kept acting like they do in dreams and didn't do what I wanted them to do.
    13. Zombie Lucid Dream

by , 05-24-2014 at 09:05 PM (sparkley guy dream journal)
Okay, so everytime I witness or have a scary feeling, I do RC's, I think that's my dream sign. The dream started out as me looking out a window, only to see a zombie, it looked very vivid and scary, it was my first zombie dream, that actually showed one so I was very scared. I instantly thought dreaming, I was thinking "this seems like a dream" so I pinched my nose and sure enough I was, I started walking around, looking at stuff.. I'm not sure where I was but I was in a house, a random house. I remember thinking "This is my longest lucid dream yet" And just walking around, I'd say it was about 45 seconds. That's all I remember but I think I lost lucidity.

    15. Horn, hourglass, castles

      by , 05-23-2014 at 08:47 PM
An earlier semi-lucid fragment - I'd been riding in a car someone else was driving, they took a turn much too fast and swung wildly into the next lane, and I was thinking to myself with some annoyance about how ridiculous dream driving can be sometimes.

There's two women locked up in a circular stone room with no apparent doors and a ceiling so high it can't be seen, like a well or a small tower. I get the impression they're a couple. They're both blonde, one with darker hair and wearing purple, the other with hair so light it's almost white. Hovering around the one in purple is this sort of little glowing gold ball; she's leaning towards the other one, who's unconscious, but who starts to softly glow when that glowing ball gets close to her. They're rescued by people who break through the wall - an old woman and several people I think of as Hunters who've been doing something with a fountain in the center of the room on the other side of the wall. The old woman looks at the hovering glowing ball and calls to the Hunters. "Got one more for you - two!" she adds when she sees that the unconscious woman is also glowing. As they get both the women free, the woman lifts this fancy white horn and says to the woman in purple, "It's yours." And then she quotes a riddle or poem or something similar that led them to this horn - "With the wit, the way." Wit turns out to have been a pun on wet, something to do with that fountain in the other room, and it's those two women locked up who'd figured it out.

      (Woke up. Back to sleep.)

There's a man trapped inside something like an enormous hourglass, tied to a chair in the bottom half. It's slowly filling with this black liquid. I'm following this from the POV of a man outside the hourglass, watching. This is something like a form of brainwashing - the man in the hourglass is on the other side of some conflict, and a serious threat, and we're turning him to our side. But as a 3rd person observer, I'm aware this is going to backfire; we seriously underestimated how insane that man was to begin with, so making him loyal to us doesn't actually mean he won't still be a threat to us.

Still as that same character who'd been watching the hourglass, I leave the room and go to meet a woman I work with for lunch. But just before we start eating, someone bursts in and stops us - the food's been drugged, something connected to that man I'd left in the hourglass. We leave with that person who burst in, and as we walk he's saying, "We all talk about the war, but does anyone remember what it was about?" We don't. He explains something to do with Skins - the gold or silver markings on our skin that remind the 3rd person observer side of me a little of circuits. Mine are gold, the woman I'm working with has silver; in earlier times, we'd have been on opposite sides of the war. We find this an uncomfortable concept.

      (Woke up. Back to sleep.)

I'm a young man walking around our castle at night with a girl from a visiting family. We're supposed to get married sometime in the next year or so if negotiations keep going well. Neither of us are supposed to be out of bed right now, but we both were sneaking around on our own and happened to meet up. Right now we're hiding behind a door, watching the leaders of our families talking in the next room. I'm thinking that the colors they're wearing make them both look like they're part of the same family; my family's colors are red, gold and black, but right now our patriarch's only wearing black, except for the sword pin at his throat, which I think of as "hardly red at all" - a dark red, nearly black.

There are two women sneaking around a castle at night. They'd been intending to escape and then come back when the vampires are asleep and destroy them, but they've just now realized that the vampires never sleep; and on top of that, they've just realized that one of the vampire women here is the exact same woman written about in Quincey's journal. Reading this journal is the thing that made them realize their hosts were some kind of monsters - they don't know very much about vampires at all except what they've read in this journal. So it's a shock to discover that the women in this castle don't age or die, and the idea that the monster in Quincey's journal still exists makes them feel like they can't win. At some point Ephesia is mentioned, a woman's name, though I can't remember whose. One of them suggests giving up on their plan, since it seems hopeless, and tries to convince herself that becoming one of them wouldn't be so bad.
