    1. Fortune Cookies and Patronus Charm (WILD + FA)

      by , 09-16-2014 at 09:51 PM
Ritual: WTB 1am, woke 4:20am, got up and read, drank spice lassi (yogurt, water, turmeric, cumin, salt), did 12 minutes seated meditation incorporation SSILD technique before returning to bed at 5:50am. Before going to bed I affirmed several times, "I vow to lucid dream," reflecting on how a vow is much more serious than an intention, a little nervous that I might inadvertantly break my vow, but reminding myself that I didn't dare, failing to go through on an intention is one thing, but you're never supposed to break your vows. I wanted to avoid supplements for the most part as that hasn't helped much lately, but I did use a few drops of Calea Zacatechichi tincture, because although I can't say for sure if it actually works, I thought the distinctive taste might contribute a useful placebo effect. I lay on my back in bed and did a series of tension-relaxation exercises, then cycled in random order through several affirmations ("I am aware / I do / I dream"). Drifted off, woke up a little, realized it was getting too bright out and my mind felt sufficiently wakeful that this might be an obstacle to sleep, so I put on my sleep mask (a device of last resort as I don't like wearing it), turned on my left side, and continued the affirmations until I fell asleep. I got a lot of distinct hypnagogic imagery and sounds every time I started to drift off, but I did not feel the physical signs of transition.

WILD, Part 1: I woke up again, thinking I might have transitioned successfully, and got out of bed. I could still distinctly feel myself wearing the sleep mask so I wondered if I was really dreaming, but realized that since it wasn't obstructing my vision, then I must be. I was tempted to rip off the mask but decided to just ignore it, and soon the sensations disappeared for the duration of the dream. Now that I was sure I was dreaming, I wanted to get started right away on my tasks. I reached behind me for my wand, a gesture familiar from a few years ago when I had been playing a lot with Harry Potter style magic. I got used the idea that my wand was sheathed just behind my right hip, so I could just reach back there at any time to draw it. However, this time I came up empty-handed. I realized that this was probably because, having just gotten out of bed, I wasn't wearing any clothes. Nevermind, I can work on that task later. By this time I'm in the kitchen, so it should be an easy matter to procure some fortune cookies!

I walk toward the kitchen counter, expecting to find a bag of fortune cookies ready to hand. Sure enough, there is a clear plastic bag right where I expect, but as I reach for it I see that it contains... what are those, pierogies? I laugh because they look almost like fortune cookies and are anything but, and it is just like dream to bait and switch this way. I pick up the bag and reach into it anyway, focusing my expectations around pulling out a proper fortune cookie, and by the time my hand closes around something, I can tell that it is falling into line: it has the dry smooth surface, distinctive shape and ridges of a fortune cookie. I pull it out and break it in half to get the fortune. I remember that I'm supposed to eat the cookie too, so I start nibbling at it while extracting the fortune, which was wedged inside the cookie in a crumpled up wad. As I smooth it, I see that the little strip of paper is covered with what looks like dabs of herb butter mixed with little shreds of nori seaweed, a kind of east-west fusion of ingredients. I'm disappointed to see that there is no writing on the paper at all, just the seasonings.

No problem, the bag contains several cookies. I'll just get another. I try again, and fortunately the next cookie contains a larger slip of paper, one that comes out properly this time and contains actual text—quite a lot of text actually, four or five lines of it. I start to read it, murmuring aloud to help fix it in memory. It starts something like: "And earth her allies rift..." It goes on from there, not making much sense, and worse, by the time I get to the second line the first one is already changing, now "her allies" looks like it has been replaced by something in German, "die Beile."

(Weird, according to my German dictionary app "die Beile" means "axes, hatchets." I've studied a bit of German, which is why I have the app, but I'm not aware that I've ever learned that word and didn't even know if it was a real one until I looked it up.)

I continue reading the fortune, and by the time I get to the end the first line has changed again even more, and I'm pretty sure so has everything else. I realize this is somewhat hopeless, the fortune was so long that it would have been hard enough to remember even if it were static, much less track all the changes, so I just determine to remember the part that I read initially, since I think I can keep at least this much in working memory: "And earth her allies rift."

By this point the fortune has transformed into a large plastic wrapper like the sort that might have wrapped a whole box of cookies, and as I continue to look at it, I'm surprised by how much additional text is written on the side in small print: mundane details like the address of the manufacturer, etc. I see a date, "1945," and note that the place of manufacture is San Francisco, which makes sense (wasn't the fortune cookie invented there?) but by now the date has already changed to "1929."

FA: Around this time I wake up and grab the notebook I keep next to the bed to start writing things down. Something's wrong, though: even though I normally open it to a blank page before sleeping, it is now open to a page wholly printed with graphics resembling some type of manga. I don't remember the notebook having graphics! I flip through to find a blank page quickly while my memories are fresh, but all the white pages are already filled with previous notes, and they are interspersed with the manga pages, like a cross between a notebook and a graphic novel. I find a space of blank color on one of the manga images, just enough room to scribble, "and earth her allies rift," but then I feel guilty about spoiling the drawing. I don't even remember what the story is, but if I write all over it I might end up regretting it.

While I'm still trying to figure out where to put down the rest of my notes, my husband comes into the room carrying two boxes wrapped in paper, like presents. Apparently this is some new game that has just arrived that he wants to play together, a console game. I remember him telling me about it earlier: the plot has something to do with cartoonish kids and their gorilla allies. It seems that the game can only be played in two-person mode, so he has come in to try to wake me up. I'm still lying in bed, so he sets the two boxes down right on top of me and starts to rip off the paper wrapping. The boxes are cubes measuring about a foot on each side, and at first I wonder why they are so large, but as he tears off the paper I can see from the box art that they contain individual devices like Playstation controllers.

Although I do want to play the game at some point, I'm annoyed at this disruption because I was in the middle of a lucid dream attempt! After jotting down my notes I had been planning to try to re-enter the dream state. However, I already vaguely suspect that this might not be a real awakening because everything seems so exaggerated, from the problems with my notebook to my husband's rude attempt to wake me. He may not share my hobby, but he's aware of it, and would be unlikely to disturb me while I'm still sleeping, much less set boxes on me! This remains only a suspicion, and I don't become fully aware of the fact that I'm still dreaming. Rather, I conclude only that I'm still on the verge of it, since I can still feel the heaviness and tingling in my limbs that lets me know that I can probably re-enter the dreamstate once this distraction has diminished. So I quietly grumble at my husband until he leaves, careful to keep calm and not lose my temper since that could wake me up too much and make it impossible to to return to the dream. After he goes out of the room, I get myself settled in the bed again and prepare to re-transition. This is amusing in retrospect because evidently I was fully dreaming the whole time—I had the impression that I was DEILDing back into the dream, but obviously if this had been a real awakening DEILD would have been impossible after such a chaotic interlude! When I felt confident I was dreaming again, I got back out of bed.

WILD, Part 2: Having done fortune cookies, I thought I should put all my focus now into completing the Patronus TOTM. Once more I reach for my wand and once again come up empty-handed. No matter, I've used a chopstick as a wand before with great success, and I keep a jar of those right on the kitchen counter, so I walk up to it and pluck a nice sturdy one. Although the jar is mostly full of delicately-pointed Japanese chopsticks, I choose a sturdier one of the Chinese type, cut half-square and half-round. It looks just like one of my real chopsticks, from a simple and practical set I acquired many years ago in Nonthaburi because I didn't know I was supposed to give them back to the door-to-door noodle vendor, and it feels comfortable and familiar in my hand.

I figure that it would be most appropriate to summon a Patronus if there were a real threat, but I don't want to over-complicate things by going to look for one. I reason that since my husband was annoying me just now with the boxes and almost woke me up, this could serve as a sufficient stand-in. So I find him in the living room, point the wand toward him and say firmly, "Expecto Patronum!" I hear an audible "pop" like something bursting but see no change in the visual field. I try again and nothing happens at all. I strengthen my resolve, try a third time, and... what is that?... I look closer... it's... moths! The air between us where I was aiming the wand is now occupied with a cloud of small shimmering moths!

I'm delighted with these results because they were so unexpected. I figured my Patronus would turn out to be something predictable like a type of animal I like, maybe a cat or an owl or a raven or even a horse, but moths had never crossed my mind! However, I had intentionally left the form of the Patronus unspecified, because I was hoping the dream would collaborate with me creatively and come up with something interesting and unanticipated, and in this respect it fulfilled its role splendidly.

Moths! I would never have consciously arrived at this solution, but now it makes perfect sense: I am very much a night person, after all, and these are definitely night moths. I watch them for a few moments, entranced by the glitter and sparkle of their silver bodies in flight. They are relatively small, with wingspans of roughly three-quarters of an inch, but there is a whole cloud of them, many dozens filling an area several feet on either side. Although we are indoors, they appear to be illuminated by moonlight. It is incredibly beautiful. And they've fulfilled the function of a Patronus, it seems, in that they have averted the "threat" (such as it was) and completely defused the tension in the room. My husband is watching them too, and appears just as enchanted with them as I am.

After admiring the moths for a while, I notice a rabbit on the living room floor. It is wonderfully well-articulated, closely resembling Dürer's famous drawing of a hare. (Probably WLR because I briefly saw that drawing yesterday.) Since I'm still holding the wand, I figure I might as well try out another HP spell. I recall that there's one that ends with "leviosa," and although I can't remember the first word, I figure it is unimportant because clearly "leviosa" is the operative term. So I point the wand at the hare and say, "Leviosa!" Sure enough, it rises right off the ground into the air. I set it back down and pet it fondly.

I now feel satisfied that I have accomplished both the tasks I had intended, and I know I should wake up now and write promptly before I forget any details. But the dream is going so well, so clear and stable and responsive... it would be a shame to leave it so soon... I give in to the temptation to take a quick look outside, just for a minute, before coming back in to wake up and begin my report.

Walking back through the kitchen, I open the screen door to the back patio. Sometimes my WILDs become more unstable after I leave the house, probably in large part because I've developed the expectation that this can happen, but in this case I plan to wake up soon anyway, so I walk outside without hesitation.

It only takes a step or two before the environment no longer resembles my backyard. I encounter a group of four DCs, a mix of men and women who appear to be in their twenties. They begin to approach or accost me in a vaguely threatening manner. I try the Patronus charm again, but it is not as effective this time: the cloud of moths is much smaller and the DCs appear unimpressed. I'm not sure if I actually see them holding wands, or only rationalize that they might be, but I figure this would be the perfect opportunity to try another HP spell. "Expelliamus!" I shout, aiming at the guy on the far left. Sure enough, his wand jumps right out of his hand toward me, and I catch it neatly. You'd think this would give the others enough warning to prepare their defenses, and indeed they seem to be scrambling to try, but I promptly disarm them all using the same technique.

I walk on a little further, and encounter a few more DCs sitting on a low brick wall and chatting. The initial four have followed me, and I get the impression that the new ones are their friends. I wonder if they are going to retaliate at me for having taken all their wands, so try the Patronus charm yet again: "Expecto Patronum!" This time only a scattering of moths appear, a half dozen or less. I feel a bit embarrassed at this poor showing. "It must be out," I muse, wondering if the wand can only conjure a limited number of moths in a given interval.

Nevermind, I've got more tricks in my arsenal, and I want to intimidate these DCs so they'll back off. I wonder if I can levitate the whole group of people? "Leviosa!" I command, trying to make them all rise in the air at once. It doesn't work, and I speculate that maybe this is like game mechanics, where it is easier to perform such effects on simple creatures like animals, but harder on a more intelligent creature like a person, since they get a free roll to resist. I think it over and decide, well, maybe so, but... I have all the wands! Their combined power should be enough to counter any resistance. Is it possible to use more than one wand simultaneously to cast a spell? Only one way to find out!

Standing in the center of the DCs, who form a ring around me, I levitate myself initially—partly to cement the idea of levitation more firmly in mind, and partly because some of them look like they might want to make a grab at me at any minute. Hovering in the air just above them, I arrange all the wands together in my right hand so that I am gripping them evenly, and try again: "Leviosa!" This time I am pleased to see the whole circle of people around me—about six or seven now I think, the initial group plus their friends—rise simultaneously several feet into the air until they are almost even with my own level. They all look discomfited and alarmed by this change of circumstances, so to reassure them that I mean no real harm I let them sink gently back down to the ground and come down as well myself, satisfied with the results of my experiment.

I decide to stop fooling around now and go back into the house to write my report. It seems dream logic has made me forget that I can just wake up whenever I want to, I don't actually have to go back bodily into the house and manually start writing. But as I turn to go, one of the girls who has returned to her seat on the brick wall yells something hostile and sarcastic after me. I figure she's upset over my levitation stunt, so I decide to use friendliness to try to transform her attitude. I walk right up to her and, maybe taking "friendliness" a little too far, kiss her on the lips. Although she just looks startled and confused now, I smile warmly and say with genuine affection, "See you later!"

Returning to what I think must be the spot where I came out of the building, I go back inside. Just in case the DCs are still feeling miffed and try to follow me in, I lock and bolt the heavy door behind me. This is no longer the sliding screen door to my kitchen, but a large and solidly made wooden door with numerous locking mechanisms. I'm not sure if I came in the right door at all, because when I turn around I see that I'm in what looks like a nineteenth-century boiler room: it is full of heavy, old-fashioned machinery. Nevermind, I'm sure I can find the entrance to my kitchen just a little further on, so I'll go through and look for it.

As I pass by some of the machines, I marvel at their intricacy and the clarity with which I can perceive how they are constructed. I pass one machine that has a cylindrical body like an old stove. Although it is made out of solid black cast iron, there is a primitive electric cord incongruously coming out of it, so I figure it must be from a period of technological transition in the late nineteenth century. The electricity is driving some kind of rotating grinder that is hidden in the upper part of the cast iron body under a round upper plate, and with a flash of insight I think I know what this is: it must be a mill of some kind! But what is it grinding? I look at it a little longer and see a lower basin, also cast iron, positioned below the cylindrical body to catch drippings of some kind: the drippings resemble hot slag, semi-melted metal. Whatever this thing is milling, it is definitely not flour!

I continue to make my way through the room, dodging complex pieces of shaped metal and machinery that crowd around closely on all sides, but when I get to the far wall I'm disconcerted to find that there's no door. How am I going to get back into my house? Although there seems to be no exit in the walls other than the door I came in, the ceiling is so far overhead as to be out of sight, and I observe that this is less a room than a vertical shaft filled with industrial machinery all the way up, so I begin to levitate and rise through the lattice of metal bars. When I get about three storeys up I see in the wall what looks like the worn wooden cover of a hatch, arched on the top and with a flat base. There is no handle and it looks like it would be too small to crawl through comfortably, but I figure I can make a portal in the wall here to pass through.

Aiming my wand at the wall, I intend for a portal to form in the location of the hatch. Although nothing appears that I would recognize as a portal, the wall changes, the area in front of me becoming transparent, and just a few feet beyond I see a vertical transparent sheet of glass, apparently the wall of a neighboring building, a modern glass-walled high-rise. Directly across from me through the glass, I see what looks like the interior of a cafe, the sort of place the people who work in this building might stop for coffee or a snack on their lunch hour. It is dark inside and empty of customers, as it is nighttime, but I notice with mild alarm that several cops are running through the cafe and aiming guns at me! They seem very deliberate, as though this was a sting operation directed at stopping me. If they shoot, they'll surely break the glass and then I'll be exposed.

I consider making the first move and breaking the glass myself to engage them, but I don't feel like getting into combat. I point my wand toward the cops with the intention of creating some kind of protective barrier between us, but I don't see any change and can't tell if this is successful. I decide to just get out of here. Making another portal directly in front of me seems like a bad idea, because the cops might shoot at any moment, so I get a bit creative and make the portal directly under my feet—all this time I have been hovering in the air, after all—and then I take what feels like a leap of faith and simply let myself fall directly into it. Would any pursuers be able to follow? As I fall, I decide that probably the best course at this point is to let the portal lead me to waking, and so I transition from feeling as though I'm falling through a round tunnel of undefined space to waking up in my bed and scrambling to start taking notes before the memories fade.

It's interesting how clear and stable my dream memory remains—even of such a complex series of episodes—for as long as I am still dreaming, and it is only on waking that the whole fabric begins to thin and fray unless it is captured immediately. Fortunately there were no problems with my notebook this time so I jotted down the key details quickly by hand and then spent the next hour and a half typing up my full draft of the report while the memories were still fresh in mind. I don't mind devoting the time (and sacrificing the sleep) for it when the dreaming is so good!
    2. Bomb Diffusal (with hax turned on)

by , 06-04-2014 at 06:53 PM (Schmaven's Dream Journal of Randomness)
Sneaking into a military compound of sorts, there are multiple levels of concentric balconies surrounding a central structure, every bit of which is teaming with guards. There is a bomb that is set to explode soon which will kill a bunch of innocent people. Looking at how heavily guarded the bomb platform is I think, "This is going to be really difficult, but those people in there need me, so I don't have a choice"

Vastly outnumbered, I try to remain unseen as I creep into the central structure. There is no roof on the central structure, but the whole compound area seems to be in a building that resembles a covered football arena, only never meant for sports. One of the guards spots me and immediately starts shooting. I jump into an adjacent room to dodge the gunfire, but not fast enough as a bullet tears through my abdomen. All I can think is, "It burns so much!" as I crumple to the floor behind a large metal desk. Trying to crawl to a safe place, I drag myself across the floor, but the guards have me surrounded now. Sadistically, they plan to kill me slowly, in the most painful way possible. They taunt me and laugh to each other, trying to instill fear in me. Rather than be afraid, I simply prepare to die. Loving the guards now, I alertly observe their actions to see what they will do next. One of them shoots me in the foot. It really hurts! On impulse, I pull my shoe off, and apply pressure to my blood soaked sock as my foot throbs in pain. Noticing how much blood I'm losing I become lucid!

I realize that I cannot be harmed now that I am lucid. Just in time - another guard runs towards me and rams a knife through my stomach! I am a little surprised at this, and yet confident that I am indeed still dreaming and there is no pain. "I could feel the pain from this" I ponder, but decide not to go there right now. Screaming at me, the guard pulls the knife out and stabs me again, but in the chest. I have to consciously decide to have his knife just pass through me unhindered, but it is worth doing for now. A handful of other guards surround me and start pulling at my arms and grabbing me to hold me in place.

Feeling a little too close for comfort with all these hostile DCs, I levitate a good 15 ft above them so as to be out of their reach. This works, until they start shooting at me. Really, it's very loud, and distracting to have all that gunfire so close. I float out of their line of sight and contemplate my options, "I could do anything now that I'm lucid. There's not even a real bomb, no one will get hurt, so I don't have to defuse it anymore... What should I do?"

I decide that it is an interesting challenge, and even though the innocent DCs don't exist, and that this whole scenario doesn't exist, I still want to defuse the bomb to save them. It seems like the moral thing to do, and I want to follow my good intentions more anyway.

Floating around the corner, I get a peek at the bomb on the top level of the building, complete with a rats nest of wires, and a pulsing red light. It reminds me of Counter Strike for some reason. There are a lot of guards nearby, and each time I poke my head around the corner, there is a hail of gunfire. It's easier to dodge than to allow to pass through me. I hear the timer on the bomb tick down, and know there is only 17 seconds left before it explodes. "That's not much time to work with!"

So, I turn on the cheats, decide that the hostile DCs' guns no longer shoot bullets (without their knowledge), float into line of sight with the bomb, and use telekinesis to break the bomb into individual parts, levitating each one of them out in the air so it looks like one of those exploded view engineering diagrams, frozen in space. As I do so, the timer clicks to zero, and makes a loud buzzing noise. I find it to be a very annoying sound, but at least the bomb cannot explode now. I feel satisfied with my choice there.

Now, if only I can stop this buzzing!

I gradually become aware that it is in fact the same buzzing as my alarm clock as I wake up and my room fades into view.
    3. Second LD, but Longer Lasting, with a Low Level of Control, and Flight

      by , 03-01-2014 at 10:06 AM
I remember I was chatting on a forum on Facebook. It was more on a chat window than a screen (I can't quite remember that detail). It was part of a program people join to help them achieve lucidity. It was a genius system in my dream, but I don't recall entirely how it worked. I just remember someone would type something they were thinking, and others would elaborate on it and confirm if it was real or not... or maybe they would mention something of the dream world (that's another detail that was fuzzy). I was sitting on the couch in my living room. It was set up just how it is in real life... brown, leather sofa; plaid chair in front of the left side; to the left was the dining area; just before that, though was the hallway to my room straight ahead and my roommate's room to the right. There's also a bathroom to the left, but I don't remember it being in my dream. Anyhow, I was sitting on the left side of my couch beside my dad. Others were there in the room, too, but I don't recall who it was. Maybe they were family? I had been a member of the forum for years it seemed in my dream. It was when I was explaining to my dad how amazing the forum was (and how it worked) when the feeling suddenly changed (maybe this was my subconscious starting to realize that I was dreaming). There was a dream shift here, but I was still in my living room, sitting where I was sitting before. Instead of my dad, my friend... I'll call him Jim... was sitting on the couch on his knees facing me. He was resting his head on his left hand, and his elbow was resting on the back of the couch. I didn't of this as odd because it could happen in real life, but I stood up and did an RC by plugging my nose. Breathed perfectly. I then thought, "I am dreaming." I started to walk to my room, but I couldn't walk straight, and I also struggled to make my legs stand all the way up. They were wobbly. Jim was laughing pretty hard. "Isn't it hard to walk?" He asked while still losing it. All I could really say was a half-assed "yeah..." As I approached my room, I saw the scene start to fade. I thought, "no! Not yet!" And went to my roommate's (I'll call him Joe here) closed door in an attempt to avoid waking up because I felt, the closer to my bed I get, the more I wake up. I knew that, since I was dreaming, I would be able pass through it. Sure enough, I staggered straight through it. I briefly looked for Joe, but I couldn't find him and didn't see him on his bed. I remembered an RC I did awhile back. I tried to pull my legs up, cross them, and levitate in midair. I was able to do it no probs. I was I getting excited at this point and thought that I should take advantage of it. Remembering I could pass through solid objects, I launched myself through Joe's window and began to fly. It was absolutely exhilarating. In reality, there's a parking lot/street there (like you'd see in an apartment complex). I did still see a parking lot, but instead of being at the apartment complex, I was at an elementary school I went to. I could see trees and how fast I was going. I went up higher than I thought I'd be able to go. I must have been at least a mile above the clouds. I was making my way back down when I saw two white dots appear. The scene started to fade to black, and I lost track of where I was. I knew I was waking up. For a short time after waking up, I closed my eyes again. I was on my couch in the same spot again. Joe was standing in front of me, an old friend (I'll call him Chris) was standing beside him, and Jim was sitting on his knees beside me as he was before. I wanted to explain to them how crazy the experience was. I woke up again shortly after that.

I’m in the street under a train line and as I’m walking I’m thinking about it being morning already and I haven’t had a single lucid tonight. Then it occurs to me - what if I’m dreaming right now? I look at my hands and I realize that I am in fact dreaming, even though my hands look quite normal...I just know. I do a couple of RCs - finger through the palm and pinched nose and they both work. I start rubbing my hands to stabilize and then I spin but it feels uncomfortable rubbing my hands and spinning at the same time so I stop the rubbing. I spin one more time around and it gets a little bit more stable but not completely. I start walking around a little bit and realize that I have a very heavy book-bag on my back and I drop it to the ground by just taking the straps off my shoulders. I turn around and I want to kick this book-bag really hard and I see up ahead about 30-40 feet away there is a doorway with a sign on top. I kick the book-bag real hard in that direction (this thing is huge and heavy) and it goes flying but just off target and I use telekinesis to aim it and hit the sign. The sign explodes and a piece of it goes flying at me and almost hits me in the face. I then see a woman turned away from me. She’s close to that same doorway and I decide I want to throw her against the wall for some reason. I try to do it but it doesn’t work. I then levitate her up in the air and try to do it again but she just floats down to the ground. I then levitate her up again and I start moving her around doing funny dance moves like shaking her butt (she’s wearing a short skirt...like very very short). People around me are laughing and it’s pretty funny how’s she’s floating around and doing funny dance moves. Anyway after a few seconds of that I wake up. I try to DEILD back in but it doesn’t work and I give up to record my dream so that I don’t risk forgetting it later.
    5. Superpowered

      by , 01-18-2014 at 09:03 PM (Link's Adventures)
In this dream, a bunch of people got superpowers from this radioactive site. I forgot why I was there... I think I was looking for someone when I went down there. The site was these old, stone, underground ruins. It was massive, with large parts of it collapsed in some places. I remember seeing someone shred around using ice powers when I came in, though I don't remember if that is who I was looking for.

Anyways, I remember later on a girl in our group getting upset with me and she ran off into some unknown part, where a bunch of our enemies were plotting. She gestured for me to be quiet as I got closer, and I hid under a table against a wall and tried to listen in. One of them apparently noticed one of us though, as more of our side arrived. A battle broke out, and I tried waiting for a few seconds since no one noticed me. Our side ran off, not wanting this big fight that would have been costly, and so I try to escape too. These two guys, brothers or maybe even twin brothers stop me though, hitting me with some ability that really disoriented me... I asked them to wait a moment, and I wanted to text goodbye to someone before they killed/captured me, they agreed since everyone on their team was coming towards us. I was really stalling though for the effects to wear off. I yell levitate and jumps up, flying upwards. They all start yelling and start running various ways to try and catch up to me. Some guy in armor on a higher part of the ruins tells me to act like he got me. I comply, letting him grab me and drag me against a table, causing a bunch of stuff to fall. I then thank him and sneak off.

Then later in my dreams I remember going to some well where the radiation was also leaking out and me and some guy were discussing something. Some others come and one of them, a girl around my age stands on top of some metal bars at the top of the well. I think they were simply floating. I tell her I think she should get off and throw something small near her, not actually aiming at her though. She laughs and doesn't listen. All of a sudden a bunch of metal stuff comes from junk nearby and forms a big heap of metal and her and the heap start to fall down the well. I yell "NO!" and put my hands out towards her, telekinectically stopping both her and the heap of metal above her, and slowly rise them both up and fling the metal to the side and put her on the ground gently. She starts crying and I go up and hug and comfort her, glad I saved her in time.

I remember walking around later on and some people recognize me, calling me a hero and etc. I didn't feel comfortable with it though and simply thanked them and signed autographs for those who asked. I get back to my dorm and see some guys wrote on a whiteboard that I was a hero and etc. I just move on and talk to a few guys from my hall, one who feels bad about what almost happened to the girl, while the other said it didn't matter since I saved her and that I was a hero. I simply comfort the guy, telling him not to feel bad. And then the dream ended.

The sky was dark... pitch black.

A group of students and I were visiting a town at night. From a couple of yards away there was something that looked like a theatre; in reality a restaurant. The narrator of my dream told the class that it once belonged to a guy who invented a type of sport. We were transported by unknown means to another of his restaurants and this particular establishment had flyers (tabloids/pamphlet) of himself. A girl named M. commented how sad it was that they closed down his restaurant after he passed away, indicating that it should be some type of landmark. The flyers displayed an old man, ugly looking by western standards, having a long nose, and droopy face- he was Caucasian. The flyer also illustrated his various exploits in cinema and theatre, including a horror flick in which he wore a mask that was a carbon copy of his face only green.

Afterwards, I remember walking down a street not unlike my own real neighborhood. I was with my sister when she said something about a garden having candy. I looked towards my right and noticed a fence; behind it was the garden. She identified an object as candy, but I claimed it to be a mere cornstalk. Then I imagined myself holding Soul Edge, although it was never physically seen with my eyes. While holding the sword of heroes, I was levitating and flying while standing.

      1. Playing in an arcade. I walked up to some deer hunting game or whatever, and some big bulky guys were around it. I put my quarters in and failed. My brother gave his quarters away.

      2. Was in some sort of a fancy house. Then realized I was dreaming. Now, the thing is, I only realized it because I had had the exact same dream, then woke up, then had it again.

Anyways, I started running around, jumping really high (which is great fun, you should try it in your next lucid dream), and trying to levitate stuff. With no success.
    8. Restroom epiphany!

      by , 12-18-2012 at 12:20 PM
I'm in my bed, well, a bed. It feels unreal or something.
I know that it's not my bed and I start hearing things, I want to turn around, make myself comfortable but I can't.
My arms, fingers, legs, feet, toes, I can't move them. But this doesn't frighten me, it annoys me at most. I try to relax and hope it makes the noise go away, it doesn't all the while my body just feels like it's getting heavier and heavier.
A door opens, I hear footsteps and even though I haven't seen the room I'm in the enire dream I "sense" that the position of the bed has changes.
The person in the room is now sitting on the side of the bed, I feel my body dropping a few inches.
The person starts to speak and I can now hear it's a female. She talks and stands up again but I can't remember or understand what she's saying.
I thought or hoped she would leave the room but she doesn't. She keeps talking to me and walks around the room and still I can not move.
She get's close, closer and now start to get in bed with me. I still can't move and my face has been facing the wall so I still have now idea who this woman is.
But she's lying next to me now, judging by the weight she put in bed I'm guessing it's a big woman, but big as in large not fat.
Now she turns around to me and whispers into my ear, I think she was telling me who she was but I didn't believe her.
I was getting sick of this shit and really want to move now and get out of here and the moment the woman touched my head I snapped free.
I leaped out of the room and looked back, she sat up and stared at me, with eyes that lit up like a cat at night. I could see now that I was in my room, but at the same time it wasn't.
But I didn't have time for all this standing around, I wanted to get away from her, I also needed to take a dump.
So I decide to get out of bed and go downstairs to go to the toilet.

While I walk down the stairs I decide to slide on on the railing (haven't done this since I was a kid) when I'm almost down I make a jump and land in the hallway. And here's the important part, when I land I go through my knees to ease the landing, as I get up I kind of jump or float up slightly. But I didn't think about it.
I go to the toilet and sit there for a while and I recall my jump and how weird it was. Then this thought popped in my head; I'm not lucid dreaming am I?
In waking life before I do reality checks I observe my surroundings, the feel temperature, sounds all that. Back to the dream.
So I had this thought, I looked around in our toiletroom (it's a very small room just the toilet) I touched the wall in front of me and thought no, this can't be a dream this is real.
But I start to think back, where was I before the jump? The bedroom I came out of wasn't my room like it is now. Nothing made sense, but the wall was so real!
Finally I do the nose plug RC and I'm shocked. I can still breath!
I touch the wall again look at the lamp above me, it's all there, just in real life, nose plug RC still breathing.

So it's true, I am lucid dreaming and am overwhelmed with this euphoric feeling. But I try to stay calm.
Still once I look at the wall that looks so real I doubt it once again, the RC could be wrong if this was a dream I could float around. I then look at my legs, and see I still have my pants down, but that doesn't matter.
I look down and try to make myself go up, and I do!
Slowly I feel my cheeks seperating from the toiletseat and I drop back down. I'm now completely baffled and just sit there for a moment with my hands to my face in disbelief.
I try it again, I lift up very stable to my surprise, and make a 360 degree turn and sit down again.

Now for the dumbest part. I wanted to get out of the restroom, but then I was thinking about wiping.
So I wipe, float around a bit and wipe again which causes me to lose lucidity.
    9. LD: TOTM--Asking DC's Questions, Levitating "Ground Hogs"

      2-18-08

      Lucid Nap Dream:

I was able today to take a nice long nap. I am mostly better, but am just mostly a little more tired than usual.

I remember going over to the Lewis's house. I was there with my mom. We were in a family room. The couch was open to a couch bed. Mom was laying on the bed and I was sitting next to her. I don't know where the Lewis's were or why we were in their house.

Mom was telling me about a doctor's appointment. I can't remember all she said. It seems confusing in retrospect. She was also mentioning my sister and aunt. Something about my sister still having problems with her hand going numb (which I seemed to know all about in the dream, but is not a real life problem). Then about my Aunt having to travel hours to visit the doctor and how she shouldn't be trying to make the trip all in one day.

Then my sister was on the couch where my mom had been. I didn't find that odd. But I then tried to get on the couch bed too, and I was bounced off the couch against the wall and ended up falling down to the floor.

I was very startled. I asked my mom or sister if they had seen what had happened to me. I don't remember what they answered because I was suddenly very fascinated with this huge clock the Lewis's had on their wall. It was huge (about 4 feet across) and brass and had all these separate circular dials that all went in different directions. I tried to figure out how to actually tell time on it. I wasn't able to figure it out.

I then walked out of the family room out into the living room area. At that moment the Lewises walked into the house. I was embarrassed to be standing right there in their room. I tried to explain to them that I had been visiting their relative that lived in the back room. But I couldn't remember their name or how they were related. I felt very flustered that I couldn't remember anything.

Then I started to feel the need to question my state. I almost didn't because I was so sure that this was not a dream. But then I gave a jump and stayed floating in the air. I was quite relieved. It all made sense now why I was so confused.

I tried to rush out of their house. But behind each door that I thought was the front door there was another room. But finally after several tries I made it outside.

I started flying up into the air. I noticed the wind and how real it felt. I even made myself fly into a tree to make sure I felt the tree and not just go through it like a ghost. As the leaves and branches scraped against me I grabbed a few leaves and flew back up into the air again.

I noticed that I was now flying over my elementary school playground. I remembered that I needed to ask someone the TOTM question. I looked down and saw three ladies standing next to some play equipment. I landed next to them. They were either Asian or hispanic and looked in their 40s or 50s. They were all tall and thin and had long black hair and had white aprons on.

I said to the closest one, "Tell me something about myself that I don't know."

She said, "You like smoking." I knew that wasn't true becasue I have never smoked in my life and planned to never start. I noticed now that this lady had a cigarette in her hand. The cigarette gave off a whispy black smoke.

I looked at the next lady, and asked her the same question. She looked at me and said, "Everybody loves you." I thought that answer was much better. She then went on to tell me about something called "dung ants' and how the different kinds of dung ants like to fight each other.

I then remembered the next TOTM the levitating a Groundhog task. But somehow in my dream I started thinking it was a prarie dog that I needed to find.

I asked the ladies to find me a prarie dog so I could to the next task. They started to go, but I could tell they were moving way too slow, and that although it was a good idea to ask someone to bring me a prarie dog, it would be quicker to find one myself.

I walked across the playground. It was now filled with cars and looked like the Safeway parking lot. I saw a girl standing by the carts. I decided to practice on her. But before I did, I decided to get a witness.

I found another girl, who happened to look just like the girl I was about to levitate. I told her, "You have to see this." I then pointed my finger at the other girl and concentrated on picking her up. My finger went too high too fast. The girl started levitating, then in a flash disappeared up into the sky.

I wondered if I should try to get her down. But I decided that since this was a dream it didn't matter, and what did matter was to find my prairie dog.

I flew out of the playground/parking lot and over to a store. It had some outdoor displays. One of the displays was a table full of stuffed animals. There were raccoons and rabbits. I decided to practice again. I pointed my finger at them one at a time and succeeded in sending them one after the other into the air. I was getting to feel very proud of myself to being able to do this without any problem. I just needed to find my prairie dog.

I looked over to another table. One this table were some live animlas. At first I thought they were prairie dogs, but then I notied the stripe and realised that they were large chipmonks. But even though they were big, I could see that they were just babies.

I did the same thing. I levitated each onein the air. But with these I carefully set them back down when I was done.

I then decided that my best bet now in finding a prairie dog was to fly out of town. I remembered seeing some areas in real life that were covered with prairie dog towns. I needed to go out in the desert and find one on those prairie dog towns.

I started flying again. I could see the edge of town ahead and could see the desert landscape beyond. But as I looked down I saw an empty lot that had little hills and holes on it. I flew down lower. I might be able to find my prairie dog here. I saw a movement. I looked down and saw a larger rodent (this was the thing in my dream that most resembled a real life ground hog). I focused on it. But before I could levitiate it, it scurried into its burrow.

And at that moment I woke up.

So I obviously didn't quite get this second task done. But I feel that I did a great job in levitating things even though they were neither ground hogs or prairie dogs.
    10. Full Lucid Flying! Now thats what I'm talkin bout! Awesome Star Wars dream too.

We were in the millenium falcon traveling through space. R2-D2 was piloting a bigger ship behind us, tailgaiting us and firing at our engines. We could fire back, but it wasn't helping much. The ships were so close together, it was like they were connected. So I went to the back of the ship and held the cover over the laser aperture shut so it couldn't hit us anymore. It was funny I got my foot over the cover, & I can see the bright light that seems to be flashing off my shoe. That buys us some time but it isn't a permanent solution. So I have the co-pilot open the com. I start by saying "hey R2, buddy, we are your friends. You don't want to be shooting us." Then I motion/tell the real Han Solo who is standing next to me now to talk over the com to R2. Gah, I can't remember what he said exactly, but he sounds just like Harrison Ford is supposed to. Although he sounds very persuasive, R2 doesn't buy it. After the com channel is closed, I could have swore Han quoted a movie line at me, like "well that didn't work. Got any better ideas?" R2 is still bearing down on us and uses his bigger ship to force us down through a planet's atmosphere and land. At least we are on the ground now and not being shot anymore.

I go into 3rd person and am inspecting the ship that forced us down. It seems the dream is reading details to me about the ship like a schematic. The ship R2 was piloting was imperial in design, and had a clear window made of unbreakable corellian durasteel. That was the main point. Then I go back to 1st person view with a group of DCs on the planet's surface.

We are on the ground now. Some more DCs show up and some of my family members are there, although they are younger looking. There is this one woman who has come out of R2-D2's ship and she shows us why we are here. This planet is cold and has some snow patches on the ground. She finds one berry, like the last berry around for miles, and starts chewing it. She starts moaning because it is so good. She shares the taste of the berry with other DCs at this point by giving several of them a kiss, starting with Han Solo, though she doesn't kiss me. I happen to be off to the side of the group a bit anyway. It turns out this planet is drying up, climate change, and cannot produce food like it used to for its population. There is much dryed out long grass, and many dead trees. There was a patch of nice green grass, but it was as if summer had turned cold early and it snowed. The woman took us here to show us this, because this planet was worth saving.

We start talking to a farmer asking him what exactly their situation was with the crops. He explained pretty much what I already knew. I could tell Han was thinking of ways we could correct the problem. I jumped in with, "well I suppose you don't have a fleet of (space) ships?" The farmer was like "no, we don't." Scratch that idea, but I could tell Han was already thinking of something else. Our group was following the farmer now, watching the farming operations. They were using some kind of modified AT-ST to help clear the dead trees from the land. This thing could "run" about ten times faster than the AT-ST's you see in the movies. It was creepy in the way that it moved. They also had a backhoe type vehicle that could keep up with the speed of the AT-ST. It also was clearing land.

As we got closer we came to a point where a paved road was close to where they were working. As the backhoe vehicle was out of the forest with a load of logs, it was bumping into other dead trees causing some of them to break and fall. Three trees at the edge fell, and nearly hit some DCs, but they merely jumped out of the way. It was pretty impressive moves they were doing, but the DCs didn't seem to think anything of it.
I'm pointing this out to my DCs as well and I'm telling them, "well at least I'm not getting hit by a tree." No sooner did I say that, then a tree falls my way as if to spite me. It is a good thing I seem to have the same agility as my DCs, because I jump out of the way as it crashes to the ground beside me on my left. I start getting mad, and accusing my DCs of "making" the tree fall on me, like they did it on purpose somehow as a joke. This is where I start getting lucid. I walk over to a parked car that is on the road, lifted the front end clear off the ground, and pushed the car about 30 foot down the road with the back tires skidding on the pavement. I felt the "rush" of having super strength. By doing this display of strength, it was like telling my DCs to stop F-ing with me.

      Lucid Now
As I walked back over to the group, I finally think to myself, I'm in my dream, duh! I calm down now realizing there is no point to being mad at my DCs. I tell the crowd kind of flippantly, "hey everyone, I'm in my dream." After saying that I bend my knees and jump into the air and do the slow levitation style flight.
I look down at them and say, "y'all can suck @$$. I can fly."
Everyone below me is like "wow, he's flying."

As I start flying, I am thinking how not to wake up. I say out loud, "stabilize dream." That seems to work, and gives the dream some clarity. So I fly over to another dead tree, grab it and it breaks off at its base. I'm not in the mood for smashing stuff so I just let it drop to the ground. No one was in the way. I fly a short ways back over to my young sister, who seems to be a little girl around 10 or so now. I don't know what is up with the age regression in my dream. My sister is on the ground in front of me and I try to levitate her by telekinesis. I extend my left hand and focus, the first try isn't working. I wait a second, then try again. My will grabs her this time and she floats up to my height, where I tell her, "Hey, you're flying." She seems all happy about it, even though it is really me doing it. After a minute of making her fly, I can tell I'm overdoing it, so I simply grab my little sister to hold her instead of using my concentration. I was able to land and set her down safely, but I didn't have enough time to stabilize my dream again. I woke up.

    12. Lipstick Lucidity

      by , 11-22-2011 at 05:25 PM
I found myself in a large, elaborate bathroom. It seemed like it was the bathroom of a nightclub. There were cosmetic products everywhere, and there were a lot of other women primping and making themselves up. I am a sucker for lipstick, so I picked on up off the counter and began applying it. I began to feel frustrated, because this particular lipstick would not stay the same color for any length of time. This triggered the realization in me that lipstick generally does not change color by itself in waking life, so therefore I must be dreaming. I put the lipstick back down on the counter, and walked through the door.

Sure enough, I found myself in an entirely different setting, which supported my suspicion that I was in a dream. I was in a house that I did not recognize. I think I was in the living room. The TV was on, and what was displayed on the screen and coming through the speakers was completely nonsensical. I picked up the remote and pressed the off button, but nothing happened. Now quite convinced that I was dreaming, I decided to try a new trick. I had recently been thinking about creating my own doors and portals. I stood up on the coffee table so I could reach the ceiling. I licked the tip of my finger, and then traced a circle with it on the ceiling, concentrating on making it visible. An outline of a circle glowed faintly in blue. I put my palm in the center of the circle and pushed upwards. There was resistance at first, but then the traced circle of ceiling surrendered and dissolved. I hoisted myself up to have a look. It seemed that I had found the attic of the house. Not too interesting.

I got down off the coffee table and decided to try again on a wall. This time, I drew a door. Again, I pushed with my palms. The wall resisted at first, but then relented. I stuck my head through the new opening. Just another part of the house. Boring.

After playing around with attempting to make some objects in the house levitate, I decided I needed a change of scenery. I found the front door and left.

It was nighttime, and I was on a quiet street somewhere. As I walked, I messed around with various reality-bending tricks. After walking for some time, I felt the dream begin to fade a bit. To regain control, I began studying my hands intensely while doing some basic math and reciting some symbolic logic rules. 4x4=16; p>q, p, q; etc. I passed an older man with dark hair who looked at me strangely. I told him that I was just practicing my times tables and began to walk away. I had second thoughts, and decided to talk to him honestly instead. I asked him if he was real and also having a dream, or if he existed only in my dream. He looked puzzled for a minute and then answered that he wasn't sure. He showed me into a building with a recreational center aesthetic, and introduced me to some other dream characters. These people were sure that they were real and were having their own lucid experiences. We communally recited some multiplication tables to help strengthen our grip on the dream, then went our separate ways.

I decided again that I needed a change of scenery. I began to spin. When I stopped, I found myself in a small, cozy cottage somewhere. A kettle was boiling, and a stripy cat jumped into my lap. Then my alarm went off, and I woke up.

      DJ Log: September 17, 2011 – 12:30AM (USA Eastern)
      · NON-DREAM · NOTES · DREAM · LUCID ·

From deep within the darkness, a large garden appears in front of me. My point of view is moving, as if I am floating and circling the garden. As I watch, several pieces of vegetation separate and sling off into the darkness.

One of the pieces, a large pea pod, floats toward me then hovers and rotates in front of me. As it is rotating, the seam splits open with a burst of light. The pod separates and floats away as the peas fall out of the pod and float in front of me. Then the peas arrange themselves into a tight grid, becoming brighter green in color as they compact. They have an eerie luminescence as they find their way into a perfect grid pattern.

The peas split open to reveal a glowing green core inside which is surrounded by small glowing pearls. The pearls orbit around the core and their orbit elongates slightly on the open side of the pea. As I watch, the pearls begin to rise out of the shell and settle onto the flat plane. The pearls arrange themselves into a perfectly aligned grid, then increase in brightness. The pearls become so bright that they are only a blinding white light. Suddenly, the light fades to black.

As I stare into the darkness, a slice of toast appears in the distance. The toast gets closer until it is directly in front of me. The dark spots on toast are swirling around, creating many different geometric patterns. After a moment, the spots morph into human forms. The human forms then step out of the bread and they dance as the bread falls away into the darkness. They dance around in the air for a bit before being drawn back into the darkness.

(Note: This dream occurred whilst napping during the second night of an electronic music festival for which I supplied and operated sound for one of the three stages. The music was quite loud in my backstage trailer, but I was so tired that I was able to sleep with 95dB of sound around me. Sleep deprivation certainly does make dreams interesting!)
    14. Old LD from 11-29-06

      by , 09-13-2011 at 04:42 PM
      11-29-06

I just had my longest Lucid Dream ever.

I had awakened at exactly 6:00. It was a sleep-in day, so I got up did a few little things, took a B6, then lay back on my bed and listened to U2 for about a half hour, then turned off the music and thought about what I wanted to LD about. I came up with a few ideas, but decided I might just go with the flow when the LD started. At exactly 7:00 I laid back down to go to sleep.

I started dreaming. The first part that stands out was I was at my friends' house. They had moved and were building their own house. The house was like a big castle--but painted white with red trim. There was a tunnel though the house, and I could see a large train engine sitting there.

I told them, "Wow...I see you are actually making your dream house. It's so cool!"

I talked to them for a bit about the house. Then I got distracted. I had this ball of rolled up chain that I was holding. I realized that I could make it float, and if I hung on real tight I could come up off the ground a few feet.

I'm pretty sure it was that that triggered lucidity. This was such a long dream that I don't feel that I can get it all in order. But I don't feel that for this type of dream order will make a huge difference.

I believe the first thing I did was to fly. I don't think I went far before I decided I needed to try some things out. So I landed.

I looked at my hands. I wanted to get as much detail as I could. The fingers this time were all normal. There were a few purple ink smudges on my hand (in the dream I blamed them for some I had gotten in real life, but I actually didn't have any IRL). The spots would come and go, kind of like when you look at a bright light and for the next minute you see a spot of color in front of your eyes that moves around as you move your eyes.

I could also see the ridges and finger prints on my hand and fingers. I felt satisfied at the detail I was seeing.

I looked at my clothes. I was wearing my long sleeve brown shirt (again) and my blue Levis... and blue flip flops (which I don't own in real life).

I flew around again and did December's Basic Lucid Task...which I just wanted to try and see if I could. I guess I have to leave out the details here, until the Tasks are made public. I was surprised how easy it was and knew that if I became lucid in December it would be no problem to repeat.

      Then things get fuzzy.

I think I flew around some more until I came to two guys. I thought, "I'm wasting this LD. I need to do something interesting". I looked at the guys again. They were both old-ish. I looked at the younger of the two. He was in his late forties, balding and had crooked teeth. And he didn't look to happy to see me hovering in front of him and staring at him like that.

But I thought, "What the heck." So I came close to him and thought I would give him a little kiss. But instead, our teeth clanked and he pushed me away.

I thought , "Okay, that was a bad idea." and flew again.

I eneded up in this large castle like building. I can't remember details, but I remember walking out of a room and out on a balcony. I looked over the edge. I was up many stories. There were rocky fields below. I thought about letting myself fall off backwards like I had done before--because it is really a test of courage to just fall back like that.

But instead I took this moment to stop and think. I thought back on this LD and was afraid I would never remember all I did. I thought about finding a paper to write it down, thinking that maybe the review in my mind might help when I woke up. But I decided not to because I thought that might take too long.

So I looked back off the balcony again. And that's when I remembered I owed CoLd BlooDed a flight. I looked around and hoped he would just show up there on the balcony with me. When he didn't I stared at the stone wall and concentrated on making him materialize out of nowhere. That also didn't work.

Frustrated, I looked back down at the ground and focused on a rock. I then picked it up with my mind and threw it as far as I could.

I did that to a second rock...and a third. I was rather impressed with myself because I had never remembered being able to do that in a dream. I thought about other powers I might want to try. I thought about how Oneironaut gathered all this energy in him and did something cool with it...but I couldn't remember exactly what he had done (decided I would read about it again when I woke up).

I think I just decided to fly again. I realized that there was music playing. It was a lot like Handel's Hallelujah Chrous--but not quite.

I decided I just wanted to fly fast and high. I sometimes have trouble going either fast or high. So I did what I read about on this website about picturing rockets coming out of my feet. As soon as I thought that I heard a low roar and left myselt surge forward a bit. But then it slowed again.
And it was somewhere around here that I woke up. And when I looked at the clock it said 8:04.

      Dream 1:

I was at my grandparents. I was next door talking with Jenny and her boyfriend. I was trying to explain how healthy it was to eat a raw vegan diet. I was telling them that it had other benefits too--that I had developed these interesting powers.

I then laid down on the floor and started to levitate myself up. At first only my upper body started to rise. But then I relaxed and concentrated harder. I could then feel my whole body lift into the air about four feet or so. I then got back to my feet and started levitating objects around me.

Jenny and her boyfriend seemed interested and started asking me more about what I was eating.

[This is one of those dreams where I should have gone lucid, but my mind was able to come up with a reason for my abilities that actually made sense to me.]
