    1. Night of July 7th, 2016.

      by , 07-08-2016 at 04:52 PM
In this dream, Louisiana was trying to take over the United States. I was in Louisiana visiting some friends/family in a house that looked a lot like my grandmother's with my friend Sam when they started to attack. Sam and I were driving my mother's car, which was a big grey minivan. Some oil began to spill from our car and a line of fire raced up to our car. They set the car Sam and I were in on fire, and we walked back. We found a woman I guess we were friends with's home and we asked to borrow one of her cars so we could drive back home and out of the state. She said yes and we got a purple car. Now, we were outlaws or something in the house/state because we had to sneak in and out to get our stuff. Eventually I stood up and pretended to be someone else and the guard believed me and let us through. We went upstairs where we asked our siblings if they wanted to come with us, which I can't remember whether or not they did.

      Fragment:
I was riding some sort of thing and in front of me was a really cute guy and we randomly started kissing then the ride stopped and I went inside of a building.

    2. 16-07-05 Conspiracies

      by , 07-08-2016 at 04:32 AM
I was outside an ancient structure/temple at night. I had played Tomb Raider Anniversary before I went to bed. There was a square pit, and someone tossed a match in it. The pit caught fire immediately, as if it was filled with gasoline. I saw a strange round shape over a dune (the environment looked barren, desert-like, dunes and all), and told the other guy I would go and investigate. When I got to see the whole thing (it looked like... something I forgot), I knew it was part of the "set". Then, the round shape became a giant clock face on the side of a large clock tower. I went inside. The lobby looked really modern, more a hotel/company HQ than anything else. A woman at reception spoke to me. She spoke of a conspiracy involving many corporations and governments.

I was in a tunnel, which was completely submerged with water. I had to swim, of course, but don't recall having to breathe. It all felt like I was playing a game rather than experiencing it myself. I took a detour to avoid a certain section of tunnel in which I knew monster was lurking. I had to go "AFK", and decided to park my character on the other side of the tunnel. It felt creepy to be so close to where I knew the monster was, but I knew that in a game, NPC's don't move unless provoked. Later, I found myself in a school environment. I think I was in the wrong classroom or something? I don't remember much of this segment. It's possible there was another reference to the "conspiracy".

In the last one, I was was Samuel L. Jackson, who was a police captain from the Midtown Precinct of Manhattan - and, might I say, a total badass. We were in a very poor and dilapidated (not to mention dangerous) area further north on the peninsula. We busted through a gate, and Sam blasted several confused bad guys with his shotgun. We had the element of surprise. We fought across a courtyard, through a passage between low-rise buildings. We busted into one of the structures, shooting (I think) a scientist in a lab coat. He wasn't dead, and sat up against a wall, scared and/or wounded. The guy was an evil henchman, that much I knew. I wanted to interrogate him. Knowing we had him (and he had nothing to lose), he played ball. He spoke of a terrifying conspiracy that would shake the very foundations of the world if it ever came out.

    3. Being a Superhero and the Great Sun Barrier

      by , 07-04-2016 at 10:34 AM
Morning of July 4, 2016. Monday.

At first, I am wandering about in what I first think is a business building though there are not that many people around. There had been a slight focus on catching a bus (from the La Crosse post office area - even though I now live in Australia), but my attention shifts. I see an unknown male walking towards me in the dimly lit hall. I notice in one large office I glance into that Terry O'Quinn is standing in semidarkness near a desk as if ready to go home. I say “Hello Anthony” and wave and he seems slightly startled and annoyed by my presence and simply responds with “Huh?” I keep walking thinking that I should have called him Mister Quinn. I do not catch that I had called him by the wrong name (and although he has a brother named Thomas Anthony Quinn, I got the name mixed up with the other Anthony Quinn, the Mexican-born American actor who died in 2001).

I am now a young female flying in a loose-fitting superhero costume. My very large cape has narrow vertical red and white stripes (which is an obvious association with the American flag and its waving though I do not perceive this as such while in my dream, although a cape itself is a dream sign that represents being under a bedsheet or blanket). I feel good as I fly through an area between tall buildings. A young male approaches me from the opposite direction and he is wearing the same costume as I am. We end up on the ground where there are several other people, which seems somewhat of a family reunion in a metropolitan park. After a time, he seems in awe that I am flying without aid. It turns out that he had been held up by wires (I assume, linked to all the buildings). I can see a number of wires that are attached to him from different directions (which is an obvious play on the dream self as being a “marionette” of the unconscious state in non-lucid dreams), almost as complex as a spiderweb. Eventually, he seems angry that I can really fly and he cannot. Suddenly, I am a different character, myself as I am now. I am now apparently the father of the previous female character who is still with us. I tell him that I had flown all my life and he seems surprised and annoyed. I tell him that I had flown a lot in Wisconsin when it was too cold for others to be out, though it also seems that my family is the only one with members who can fly. Eventually, my female character is now me again, but later becomes a male flying character (though not the other male who “flew” with wires).

In the next scene, I am going to Terry O'Quinn’s house (its location of which I somehow know though none of this dream’s settings are familiar in any way) to, I think, as a courier, get some documents relative to a business venture. It still seems to be in the afternoon. A group of about ten or more males are standing in a sparse arrangement (somewhat equidistant) in his front yard. They seem to not like my special abilities, including my flying ability, and start to approach me aggressively. I blow lightly in their direction as I am going onto the porch and somehow they are all knocked down by an invisible force and do not get up.

I look into Terry’s bedroom (obvious dream sign; the dream self reflecting on the conscious self still being in bed), and see that he had been sleeping, and as such, he again makes a sort of frustrated “Huh?” sound. Deciding not to annoy him any further, I walk back out onto the porch, which is now perpendicular to where it had just been seconds before (that is, rotated ninety degrees to the right - and this is a long-recurring sudden illogical setting change) and facing the street instead of the large yard at the side of the house. Soon, a male in a business suit comes out to talk to me. I try to discern if this is Terry, though I ask him if he is Tony, but it is someone else. He is a younger male (perhaps about twenty) wearing horn-rimmed glasses. He is talking to me about Terry and his tax forms (relative to business) but I do not quite understand the last sentence. He says something with a very strange playful tone (though as if also being sarcastic towards me) that sounds like gibberish. I ask him to repeat what he had said and he repeats it more loudly than before. I still cannot make out what it is as it sounds more like just a fast “nyah nyah nyah” noise. I tell him in a playful though assertive manner, almost as if talking to a child, “I can’t understand you and I don’t think I ever will” and then begin to hear lightly dramatic music playing in the background as if my dream has an overhead “soundtrack”. He just sits on the wall of the porch grinning sheepishly.

As I am walking down the street, other people are looking at the sky and something seems wrong with the sun. It is supposed to be afternoon but is slightly darker than it should be. After a short time, the sun appears as a goldfish drawing etched into the sky in bright orange strips of fire (which almost seems natural and normal). A circle of fire is around it. However, this fire seems to hit an invisible spherical barrier a short distance out from the sun. “There is a barrier around the sun,” several people begin to note and say as a small crowd gathers around near one intersection. Everyone seems concerned. I am not that concerned considering that if this were real, it would be the end of the world.

Time passes, and eventually there are images in the sky of witches in a circle, from about the waist up, holding their hands out vertically and trying to match the fire shooting out of the now crystal ball sun by sending their own fire (from the palms of their hands) back into the “sun”, which seems to “explain”. the supposed barrier There is a loud sizzling sound that also seems to have elements of hissing, breathing, and snoring.

What a long bizarre and surreal mixed-up dream. What is unusual is the goldfish, as a fish is typically an induction symbol (which directly represents the dreamer in the dream state), though here is the waking precursor and light-of-day symbol (dawning consciousness as sunrise and circadian rhythms metaphor). I guess this is because gold represents conscious activity in the dream state, so the goldfish oddly serves as this dream’s flight symbol (that is, the main consciousness displacement representation that occurs in the majority of my dreams). Fire represents emerging conscious awareness within the dream state and as such, sometimes causes the dream’s dissolution (unless lucid).
    4. Musical Distractions

      by , 06-22-2016 at 10:54 AM
Morning of June 22, 2016. Wednesday.

In the first part of my dream, my family and I as we are now are seemingly living back on Stadcor Street in Brisbane. However, it seems (or eventually becomes) more like a public venue. Our house is also a little bigger and fancier. I find myself playing an electronic keyboard in our kitchen. I am enjoying the sounds for a few minutes. My music sounds mostly like a reed organ with sustained one-note tones around the 440 Hz range.

Eventually, I notice that I am likely annoying a group of people who are performing in a small orchestra in our living room as well as distracting their small audience. I did not even realize that there were other people in our house (other than the members of my family). There are at least six members of the orchestra. I can clearly hear the beautiful music though it does not sound familiar or recognizable as a known work. My keyboard in fact, is almost as loud as the orchestra at first. Even though these people are technically trespassing (though I do not focus on that fact) I decide to stop playing. I remain passive and receptive and eventually go to the living room and the scene shifts.

Now I am sitting on a couch in an unfamiliar setting that seems only partly rendered. On my left though, there is ambiguity in whether I am outdoors or indoors (though the implication seems logically indoors). An unknown male of about sixty is on my right. He seems to be talking about the history of a particular musician though I am not sure who he means. In fact, he may not even be addressing me as he seems to be speaking to an invisible audience presumed to be facing our location. I have an old softcover music book with yellowed pages and scroll and seashell patterns on the cover (possibly from the 1800s) and this book may be relevant to his oration but he seems a bit distracted and perhaps he is even an eccentric homeless person. There seems to be something “off” about him. He seems angry about the musician of his speech not having an accurate representation in published works. That is, the books published on his life contain mostly erroneous details. However, it may also be that he is completely wrong about what he is saying in his speech.

The scene changes again and I seem mostly uninvolved as I watch Burl Ives blowing on a harmonica in short intervals. The members of the orchestra at the beginning of my dream are chasing him down a hallway. Every now and then he stops and cheerfully and defiantly blows into the harmonica. The orchestra members wave their fists and continue to chase him down the long hallway and around corners but he continues to elude them, mostly remaining about three feet ahead of them at all times. Eventually, they catch on fire but still continue to pursue him, not seeming to notice or care that they are on fire. I watch the flames leaping mostly from their upper backs and shoulders.

Now I am watching Zsuzsanna sitting on a park bench. She is looking at a small neat oblong garden bed which has smooth white stones around the shrubs and flowers. It is parallel to the bench and about eight feet away. The head and shoulders of a young male pops up from the ground, but it vibrates and quivers and seems to be a movie prop as it is pale, almost colorless, and clay-like. Its purpose seems to be to fully emerge from the ground but it keeps going down again to about neck level. Another (unknown) person to her right seems to be laughing intensely at the scene and I start to feel a strange cheerfulness as well. It seems to be part of a movie being filmed but they cannot get the prop to operate correctly.

Burl Ives has a special symbolic significance for me. He played the skeptic and eventual victim as a result of his own skepticism in “The Bermuda Depths”, which was a movie that signified my path to my “mystery girl” as being a real character (rather than just a dream character as I had originally thought when growing up). Water and fire have always appeared in dreams he has been in. Fire usually relates to dawning conscious awareness and the nature of sunrise (as relevant to day to day reality).

The first part of my dream relating to the orchestra seems to be relevant to a time (and as a reminder) for both lucidity and non-lucidity. Although I indulge in apex lucidity on a night to night basis (the type of dream I rarely post), I also find joy and great interest in non-lucid dreams regardless of their content and my excessive familiarity with many component types. Here, I am making music and then decide that the orchestra (the Source or the natural flow of the unconscious realm) should be heeded and heard.

The last part relates to a prolonged waking transition. My dream goes a bit haywire. One way to look at it is that I am trying to wake up but I am too amused by the surreal imagery and cannot quite “emerge” from the unconscious realm even though I have been downgraded to a “movie prop” (a movie being analogous to the dream state).

Dream 1: Non-Lucid dream fragment. Meesha was rubbing up against my feet while I was in bed & I woke up. She wasn't there in real life & she never does this, lol.

Dream 2: Non-Lucid dream. I went to this apartment & was babysitting a small dog. The owner came home. We were talking & then we heard something coming from the back part of the apartment & these 3 people who were apparently hiding there & they found another dog there that had just been born in the back of the apartment. They were friends of the owner. Suddenly there was a fire in the back of the apartment. We put it out but it had opened up a wall & area that wasn't there before. The owner suddenly said, okay you guys can fix this part of the apartment & you can live there. It was funny.

I listened to a soothing subliminal Lucid Dream tool while I was sleeping & I woke up in a good mood. It actually let me use the WBTB method.

I haven't had a dream set in this location before. Typically my dreams are in more familiar locations or completely fantastical.

It was a three story brick building, like an old New York Firehouse, with fire escapes on the outside. It was a school setting, and each student only had three classes per day. I remember sitting through one of the classes, and the desks were crammed very close to each other. I was doodling on a pad as I half listened to the professor and the other students. I knew that I wasn't a student there and didn't belong, but the others accepted me. Suddenly, I had a bad feeling. I left the room and ran up to the top story. There was a fire that began, but it wasn't a normal fire. It was sentient. As I walked through the smoke and flames, that's when I gained lucidity and realized it was a dream. I put up a forcefield to keep the sentient fire back, and began barking orders at students to get out of the building and back up, because it was going to explode (even though I realize it's a dream, I still like to play it out). Some students didn't listen and I had to go back up and get them down. A couple students had their face melted off by the fire, the faces literally melted like rubber or putty to the ground. About at the point, I woke up to my alarm.

    7. FIRE!!!!

      by , 05-15-2016 at 08:57 AM
My dream starts off with me working at The Boys and Girls Club, I was the server at the snackbar making and passing food to the children. It was closing time and I was supposed to start walking home. I walk outside and see a shooting star, and next to that a blimp starts to crash and fireworks started shooting off at the same time. because of the crash I hear an ambulance in the distance. Some of the children where left behind so I started to walk them home, I take them through the park and I see fire in the distance, as I get closer I see that it was a house on fire! One of the children run inside then run back out, I grab the water-hose and run inside. there was allot of smoke so I start spraying the hose, I look down and see a toddler crying so I grab him and run back outside and give him to one of the children. I run back inside and get to a recliner and see a blanket with a figure under it. I pull back the cover and find a 1 year old baby, looked dead but then looked up. next to that was a cradle with another blanket and a smaller figure. I pull the blanket and find a newborn , grab him and now I had 2 babies in my arms running back outside and give the babies to the children. I run back inside and in the kitchen I find the mother dead on the floor stabbed in the heart. (looked like a suicide) . I run upstairs and there was even MORE smoke. I hear crying in the bathroom and open the door, I found a 3 year old little girl in a bathtub of water, I grab her, I hear another cry coming from a room, I open the door and find a teenager tied up to a chair with rope. I cut her loose, run downstairs with both of them, pass their dead mother and take them to safety. I run back into this burning house 1 last time to make sure everyone was out and safe. I get to the master bedroom and found the father stabbed to death and the knife plunged into his heart and is set on fire. I came to the conclusion that The wife killed her husband then she killed herself after hiding the babies and setting the house on fire. I ran outside grabbed the newborn and cried. I had all the children surrounding me, the fire department finally arrive and end the fire. The news reporters start showing up and ambulances come to help bring the children to the hospital.. I wake up
    8. Stove on Fire in Bathroom

      by , 03-26-2016 at 09:26 AM
Night of March 26, 2016. Saturday.

Sometimes I think that if a dream ever rendered a setting correctly, without a feeling of bilocation, or indoor and outdoor ambiguity, or of a unique composite or changes in directional orientation or colors or other details, I would not to know what to think at all. In this dream, I am technically looking at my old family home in Cubitis yet with the idea it is our present home even though my dream occurs directly after falling asleep for a short time during a nap this night and I had not been inside that house since mid-1978.

Not only that, the Cubitis bathroom is an altered setting as it is. It is larger to where the west wall (where the doorway also is) is long enough for both a large squarish porcelain sink and a stove (with large oven) with four heating elements, both features on the door’s right (and the right of the stove being directly near the northwest corner, it seems). The setting remains in semidarkness (with no implied light source other than apparently the hallway light). I do not focus on the east side of the room at all - I am only ever aware of the basin and stove that are next to each other. (In reality, the sink, which was much smaller than the one in this dream, was on the north wall, near the northwest corner.)

Fire is one of my most common dream features second only to water. There have been other dreams of attempting to put out a stove fire with water. In this case, curiously enough, the fire starts from behind one of the stove’s dials (rather than a heating element or pan being on fire). The dial itself is extended horizontally outwards a bit more from the top of the stove than would be logical (or perhaps it pulled out a bit farther than intended) and the four dials are located beyond and behind the heating elements rather than above the oven.

Concerned about this event, I flip up both switches on the wall (which are next to me, immediately to the right of the door and above the sink) even though I am not certain about which direction (up or down) is on or off (as up was always “on” in places I lived in America, but in Australia, it sometimes varies even within the same house, though up is often “off”). I “know” that the switch on the right is for the stove and the left one is apparently for the hot water availability for the left faucet/tap (which of course is not realistic at all). Still, this is illogical enough to cause my dream self to become puzzled for a short time (though not lucid). Does the switch turn off the water completely or only the hot water?

I am able to fill a glass of water and throw it at the fire. It takes about three attempts before the fire is under control (even though it is only around the dial).

Fire usually relates directly to growing conscious awareness within the dream state (and some fire dreams trigger lucidity), which seems validated by the concept of growing awareness of the light of day (including sunrise or dawn even though this dream was at night) as well as being “brighter” in clarity and perception. Awareness of fire seems to make a dream more vivid. As I put the fire out, my dream loses its vividness and I soon wake.

    9. #216 - Are you my dream guide?

      by , 03-24-2016 at 11:33 PM (The Oneironaut's Odyssey)
Another lucid there was more to the dream prior to getting lucid but there wasn't much. Last night I meditated for 10 minutes and had a more realization about how being too tired before going to sleep can reduce the chances of me getting lucid. So when I stay up for another 20 minutes and then feel really tired and 'ready' to sleep, I find it harder to dream journal or wake up during the night for LD practices. I decided that this probably affected how tired I am when I do my WBTB, and that I should extend my WBTB's. During my WBTB this morning I did the usual toilet run and mirror RC and then came back to bed and started reading my book. The following lucid was actually 1 of my best in terms of stability and control, while also being able to properly remember dream tasks.

      Dream
I'm walking home from the village, I've already passed the school and I'm pretty close. The road is the usual unlaned p.o.s. that it is, with the boughs of manuka trees arching overhead forming a sort of tree cathedral. It's quite a sunny day, there isn't much going on. I start realizing that this is a dream, I decide to stabilize myself and feel the sensation of touch. Being able to feel my dream body so clearly tethers me there and stabilizes, but I notice that the world around me darkens. Fuzz. I need it to be light! What makes things light? Fire!
I start focusing on creating fire with my mind, but it's weird.. This is one of those dreams where the world is down-to-earth and things like flying are difficult. I point the palms of my hands at each other and will there to be a spark of fire, but there's nothing..
A blanket of darkness covers everything now, but I spot a couple street lights in the background of the dream. I have a certain understanding that if I can position my hands looking up
at the light then I can trick the dream into thinking it's a fire spark. Doing this the palms of my hands suddenly have a ball of fire growing between them. I lift it up and throw it onto the tree above, it slowly spreads and the world around me begins to brighten with the flickering tongues of flame.
The dream stabilizes once more, I focus on my body now and maintain the sense in the back of my mind so I don't wake up. It's properly night time now and I decide on doing the TotM
"I'm ready for my dream guide!" I shout out to the world, I start heading back down the road towards the village.
"I'm ready for my dream guide!" I continue to hail, above the power lines crossing the street I spot a flying batlike demon. Blagh, no thanks. I keep moving on until I see the group of people that I had seen earlier on in the dream (before I got lucid I passed them on my way home). I spot a very pretty blonde, I approach her and say "are you my dream guide?"
"no" she says, "But would you like to come with me?" a coquettish smile on her face. For a moment I feel the full of caveman mode, but say "no thanks" and leave. About 20 metres later I've passed the school and reached the end of the road, leading to the roundabout by the village. I spot another cute blonde (what's with me and blondes lately?) and think that she probably isn't my dream guide. Butttt... She's cute. I decide to go after her and ask anyway

It was about here that I woke up.
    10. 15/3/2016

      by , 03-15-2016 at 09:59 AM
      1) I was onboard a ship and it was going down, water swiiling around the floor. I was in a stairwell with a man who was lying on the ceiling and he told me that he was going to go down with the ship, I told him that I didn't want to drown and was going to find an escape. Then I was with my wife walking through a sliding door into the boat and past a check in desk, we walked a bit further and were told that there was no door or check in desk where we were. We retraced our steps into an old lounge and we found an old sealed up door and realised that we had travelled through time. We were in this big lounge looking at people sitting on sofas, then saw that there was a lot of workmen doing things and realised that it was a re-fit between voyages. I watched a man repairing telephones, then he drilled hole through a book for some reason, and I watched him clean out his drill bit. There was a large fire and my wife had laid it up, for some reason I was a bit irritated at how she had used the wood, becasue I knew there was none left. I lit the fire. For some reason I then saw a magazine in the fire that I wanted and pulled it out. My father was watching and he asked me what I was doing so I explained to him.

      2) This part of the dream feels as if it occurred at some point during the previous dream as a side story. I had won a competition to fly to the moon. I was with an Apollo mission, every one was very nice and matter of fact. They suited me up, which I loved, and handed me the oxygen supply unit, then we were on the moon and I walked around in my spacesuit. When I was back in the dream above I was thinking that no-one there knew that I was one of the few people to have ever walked on the moon, I was so proud.

      3) I had to get straight out of bed when I woke in the morning and totally forgot all of a another big dream, it won't come back to me now.

    11. Fire in my hands - Bonus totm ✨

      by , 03-09-2016 at 04:56 PM
Got Lucid this morning and accomplished the Bonus totm!
After wilding into the dream through swimming in the pool I imagine as I am becoming aware I am in transition to sleep -

Went to bed early - maybe 8.30ish and took Melatonin and 100b6
Slept very well and felt like I woke up on each dream ending. First wake up was at about 10.30pm then at 1pm the 3pm

Sat up in wbtb around 3.30am till 4.30. Did some massage on my back and sat with mantra's and general Mild behaviour - expecting to Lucid when I am asleep next.

Set up for wild with earplugs/fan and bed raised. Lay for quite a while and at some point feel my legs , hands twitching a little ... It is possible I had transitioned at this point but I didn't realise - soon after this I fall asleep for a short while.

AT 5am I turn over onto my side carrying on with basic visualisations of symbolic dream places and DC's and mantra of getting lucid.
Soon after I feel transition feeling and manage to raise myself consciously out with my dream body ( first time done so carefully and consciously I fall back into body this time though and stay with the transition feeling. Soon I am 'Swimming' my way into the dream with full awareness I am exiting my body - Wild - felt great - and I imaging coming up out of the pool in a hotel pool overlooking a built up area in the city. I remember the Bonus totm so 💥

I remember to make fire/ice in my hands task.I put my hands out in front of we. First I 'will' fire to appear then I change to imagining

' Wow I have flames of fire coming out of my hands!' - It happens and I see small flames appear in each palm of my hand!👍
They are tiny at first but then they get to about 10cm high - the sensation doesn't feel out of the ordinary - I am very happy I managed the task ... I then allow the flames to eat up my hands,I watch on as my hands disintegrate and melt into drops - dripping on the floor. Later I have my hands back and imagine ice in my hands ; soon long icicles grow from the palms of my hands - cool

This is one of the longest and highest Lucids I have had- I went about a lot in the city and marvelled over many sights and exchanges with DC'c

At some point I decide to lay down and see what falling asleep in the Lucid feels like. I see a comfy looking rock - I go over and lie down on it and feel exited to fall asleep tin the dream - I look around me and there are some insects and bugs around ( I am aware this would be yucky and possibly frightening if I wasn't lucid) I try to feel happy with them there... I transition but into almost waking - I hang on and Deild back in to my dream. I am on a bus, a friend is handing food around - it's a strange meat soup. I go around with G and a wild looking lady who is known for her super powers. We go back to my house which has glass mirrors panelled on every wall! I know she could smash and destroy them all as that's what she does so I ask her not to and she promises she won't. Later I hear she stayed in a hotel for a night with my husband G and It felt fine with me to share him with her.

Soon after this I decide to spin and use spinning as a teleportation to a beach - as I spin I see white light gaining intensity all around me but end up waking, I have tried it a few times now and this seems to happen - I will try to maintain more awareness with the spinning thing ... Or maybe it's not for me

The is is interesting to think about - the phycology of this powerful woman who smashes glass in my house with me & G etc...
    12. Rise of the Mutants and Indulging in Flying

      by , 03-04-2016 at 09:04 AM
Morning of March 4, 2016. Friday.

      Dream #: 17,973-02. Reading Time: 2 min 33 sec.

This dream is long and about flying, with the theme a comic-book-like adventure with meetings with supervillains. In the beginning, I am the only mutant in the world. After a lengthy meandering segment with me flying around using the term “human” somewhat disparagingly, with increasing emotion, I begin to understand that there are others like me, though this is mostly a farce at first.

I find it amusing that people, mostly in their twenties, are joining a group of supervillains even though they are thus far not only not mutants but have no special abilities. None of them can fly as I can. Still, they seem happy when I meet them.

A young man who is short and oddly dressed cheerfully shakes hands with me and claims he is Mole Man (a Marvel Comics villain). I am his inspiration. Other people will soon follow him but symbolically remain under my command. I acknowledge him out of mock respect (with subliminal dream state awareness) though I do not patronize him, as he is taking it seriously even though, again, he is not a mutant. The situation is inviting and interesting.

Later, I see a young male who is having trouble walking because of a physical impairment of one leg being longer than the other. People are making fun of him. He eventually seems to be spitting small balls of fire a distance from the sidewalk into a little cylindrical rubbish bin behind a business building. Although most of the other supervillains I meet have already chosen their name, I call him “Pyro,” which relates to fire as well as the Marvel character. He asks me, “What about Pyro-Gomdulla?” Curiously, I recall a dream from 1971 and the Gomdulla character (from a comic book), yet do not fully realize I am dreaming. I consider he could become a giant mummy with telekinetic abilities (as in the comic book story) if he chooses that name, so I tell him that Gomdulla is an unsuitable phrase in a different language. He decides to keep “Pyro.”

I eventually fly around with a younger version of Zsuzsanna, carrying her on my left side. (She sleeps on my left in reality.) I start to think others are developing the ability to fly, but this proves to be incorrect. I meet an unknown girl with no pupils or irises. She seems to be like the Scarlet Witch in abilities though with Storm’s overall appearance.

Eventually, it starts to dawn on me that, because supervillains exist, a superhero or two could come into the picture and prove to be problematic (though this thought does not concern me). I assume much of that would be pretense as well. However, there are eventually additional “real” mutants who have unique powers and can fly. I also meet up with Captain Marvel, portrayed as an otherwise normal male in an elaborate white and purplish-blue costume that features various symbols. He cannot seem to fly and is not exceptionally strong. I throw him around, his cape sometimes going over his head, making it difficult for him to see or fight, and I am asking him why he does not fly. Presently, there are two superheroes on Earth, Captain Marvel and one I do not recall, who mostly sit in restaurants and converse in costume.

From here, the differences between heroes and villains seem superficial, as I remain only subliminally (not actively) aware of being in the dream state.

The presence of Mole Man relates to subliminally perceiving being asleep as “being underground” while, in contrast, Pyro represents the potential for consciousness reinitiation (waking from the dream state). The “living mummy” reference (Gomdulla) relates to being asleep as well (covered by a blanket). The girl villainess with no pupil or iris mostly signifies that my real eyes cannot see while I am asleep.

At some sort of stadium. There is a fire burning in the distance and I watch it. Somehow then I'm with a group of young people and there is some sort of game going on, I can't remember much more than that.
Then I'm walking down the side of a football pitch inside the stadium and thinking what a long way the walk is, although actually it's not that far. i get to the other side, go through a door and then i'm in a garden. I'm setting up a tent, I don't like where it is so I pick it up and move it somewhere else then I'm happy with the position and think about starting to set up the inside of the tent so I can go to sleep.

I scribbled a few notes about another dream - something about having a meal in a pub but can't remember any more about it now.

    14. The Birth and Rebirth of a Phoenix (DILD)

      by , 02-16-2016 at 07:43 PM
Ritual: Yesterday was full of work and stress, conditions that I have previously correlated to vivid dreaming. I worked until going to bed at 2am. Woke at 5am to feed the cat, then again at 6am after a dream that culminated in an experience of intense frustration, vivid enough that I spent around 45 minutes writing it down—an unintended but useful WBTB. Since today will also be very busy I did not do any other lucid practices, however, I had primed myself a little by reading the list of TOTYs last night. Apart from those conditions, the following dream was spontaneous, and I woke from it at around 8:45am.

DILD: I am at my mother's house, but it is unlike any WL house. I am in a long room with high ceilings, very spacious and sparsely furnished, with no modern accoutrements. Maybe it is the medieval look of the interior that reminds me of the TOTYs, and I become lucid. Which would be a good one to do? Fairy would be easier to do outdoors. I could turn into a dragon but then I'd have to destroy everything and I don't want to wreck my mother's house. Phoenix? That would be a good one. I try to remember the details. I can't just summon it directly, I have to burn something, right? I look around the room for something suitable.

On the far end of the room is a table under a shuttered window. The table is covered with a white cloth, and spread across it is an assortment of jewels and precious stones. These look ideal. I select a faceted gem and place it in my left palm. It is small, only about six millimeters across, transparent with cobalt blue striations, like a combination of diamond and sapphire. It is faceted into what I think of as a classic gem shape. [According to online sources, this is simply called a "round" cut.] I walk slowly across the room back toward the couch where my mom is sitting, concentrating on the stone and willing it to catch fire. The stone feels inert in my hand, and I feel that I have chosen the wrong one. From the coloring, this stone is clearly attuned with ice, not fire. I should go back and pick a different one.

I return to the table and find a small stone of matte earthy red color. This is more a mineral than a gem, and it is shaped like a narrow lozenge, almost a centimeter long, pointed at the ends, and only a few millimeters wide in the middle. I begin to will it into flame, but immediately have second thoughts. The stone is so skinny and small, it would probably make a scrawny phoenix. I go back to the table to look for a better one.

I decide to find a gem that could pass for a phoenix egg, examine the options more carefully, and finally come across a good-sized stone around three centimeters across. It is also matte and reddish, but a generous oval in shape, and the top is composed of randomly assorted rounded protrusions, like bubbles. The bottom has been leveled off and already set into a metal frame. I decide that this one is ideal, put it in my left palm, and begin to invoke fire in earnest. Around this time my mom tries to talk to me about doing some household chore but I hush her: "Not now, I'm busy."

The stone resists at first, but I do not let myself doubt my ability to do this. I've summoned fire in my palm before. This time I'm just transmuting it from a substrate. I will a flame to emerge from the stone and soon it does—but I notice that in the process, the stone has transformed into a candle. The candle is larger than the stone, filling my hand. It is a 6cm tall cylinder and is conveniently fitted in a round container. Between the candle and the sides of the container is what looks like a filling of crumpled dry grass.

The flame is burning on the wick in the ordinary way, and I will it to expand and consume the whole candle, turning it into the phoenix I am trying to create. For a moment it burns quietly, but then the whole object transforms again. Briefly I seem to be holding a bundle of smoldering dried grass, around a foot in diameter, until the whole thing explodes and violently flies apart, patches landing in various places around the room. Failure? I'd better check the remains.

I wander around to a couple of the smoking remnants, but see nothing notable. I remember that I need to keep my expectations high, so as I walk toward a third, larger patch, I anticipate finding a baby phoenix. Sure enough, when I prod at the charred dried grass, underneath I discover a tiny, long-necked, bird-like creature! The phoenix has hatched! But it is it skinny and completely limp. What can I do to help? As a creature of fire, I reason, it must need heat. It is probably freezing to death.

I gently pick up the baby bird, which drapes across my hands with no sign of life, and take it to the fireplace. Luckily there is already a good fire burning. There is a kind of metal chain screen separating the fire from a metal grate on the hearth. Sprawled on the grate, soaking up the heat, is a long iguana-like lizard that I had previously noticed on the table when I was selecting jewels. I figure it must be a salamander, with the same need for warmth as my new phoenix. Should I place the phoenix in the fire directly, or on the grate? Since my hypothesis about the wisdom of putting the phoenix in the fire is as yet untested, I decide to lay it on the grate in case I need to remove it quickly.

The experiment goes well. As soon as I lay the baby phoenix next to the fire, its body begins to perk up and fill out. It grows until it resembles a toucan in shape and size, though red in color and with a sleeker bill. Success! But was there more to the task? I can't remember if we were also supposed to fight something, and figure I'd better do that as well as long as I can maintain dreamstate. "Let's go fight something!" I say to the newborn phoenix, and it hops up on my shoulder.

I head past the table with the jewels and open the window in the end wall. The window is a square aperture about three feet on a side, fastened with a single wooden shutter. The shutter is hinged on one side, flush with the wall when closed, and opens inward to the left. This truly resembles a medieval house in that there is no glass in the window, so it is easy to climb up and out. I pause on the sill and bid the phoenix to fly on ahead. Meanwhile, I hang up the long metal hook that I used to open the shutter so that I can grab it when I come in later, then use another device that resembles a hook attached to a wire loop to suspend myself from the sill and ease the drop to the ground, which is far enough below that it requires some precaution. I have the feeling that I have done this many times before.

Once on the ground, I look around for someone or something to fight. I am on a grassy lawn that extends between a number of different buildings. The buildings themselves don't leave a distinct architectural impression—I wish I had taken a closer look. Instead I was scanning the ground between them, but all I see are ordinary people walking about, none of whom seem like suitable opponents. I don't want to be an unprovoked aggressor.

The dream begins to fade. I worry that the abrupt transition to a different space might have unbalanced it, and I immediately take steps to stabilize, falling on my knees and examining the details of the grass while running my hands over it for texture. For a moment the grass turns grey and although I see all the usual plants among it, like clover, everything looks unusually small. But then a voice hails me from above and the dreamstate resumes its integrity: "Do you want to fight?" I promptly agree.

I am facing a man who is accompanied by a creature resembling a muscular, short-haired white dog. The man has a sword, and immediately begins to strike at me. Although I am unarmed, I find that I am able to parry his blows with my hands without too much discomfort. I suspect that I could turn the fight to my advantage if I want, but the whole point of this exercise was to fight in tandem with the phoenix. Where is that bird? "Phoenix? Phoenix!" I call anxiously.

The blade keeps falling, and I keep catching it and pushing it aside, but luckily the dog is hanging back for now. Suddenly to my relief the phoenix swoops in, aiming a stream of fire at the dog. More gouts of flame follow, consuming the man and dog, but they do not go down easily. I watch the phoenix, who has now taken human form, take a blade right through his stomach, angling up toward his chest. It is an unmistakably lethal blow, and I run over to him as he falls. I feel guilty for having put him in this predicament—but recall that for a phoenix, there should be a way to fix this.

Looking around frantically, I am pleased to discover a fireplace in my immediate vicinity. Nevermind the unlikelihood of finding a fireplace outdoors; it is just what I need so I don't question it. I drag the phoenix, currently in the form of a slim Asian boy, over to the hearth and dump him directly onto the flames. I expect the fire to heal him; instead he begins screaming as his skin burns and chars. It is horrifying, but I hold him down as he struggles—he was dying already, this is the only thing that might help. Maybe this is how it is supposed to work. A phoenix has to die to be reborn, right? The human body blackens and burns away. Sure enough, in its place I find a little baby bird, looking much like it did initially but yellow instead of red this time. I wonder if its pale color means it needs to eat. The bird pecks at some morsel of food near the fire and I try to tempt it with something better. "Here, eat a hot one." I pluck an olive-sized piece from a row of snacks baking in the fireplace (I don't feel the heat, just as I didn't feel pain from the sword earlier) and offer it directly. The little bird compliantly swallows the morsel, growing in size and turning red again.

I feel that I have completed the task to satisfaction, so even before I wake up I begin reviewing the details, making sure I commit them to memory. There is a moment when I am back in the same house as the beginning of the dream and ask someone to remind me the name of the guy I fought. "Ziggy Starduster and the Hoarfrost," comes the reply. I note that they definitely said "Starduster," not "Stardust." Since I only hear rather than see the names, I briefly wonder if the dog's name is spelled "Whorefrost" or "Hoarfrost," but decide that the latter is more appropriate on a number of levels.

      2.6.16

Last night slept 2am-7am. Couldn't sleep more.

Nap later at 10:38. No recall upon awakening. I was typing up something unrelated on the DV when I got a Total Recall 0_0

I just arrived at my mom's place from abroad. Sitting in a chair, they hand me a stack of mail I received while not home. 3 of them are postcards - best wishes to my birthday. One is a letter from New York and I save that for last. (I read accumulated mail everytime I visit home in a dream. Very strange feeling.) There is also a shipment of something that I saw clearly in a dream but now I don't remember.

Last I open the letter from New York. It has a nice rubber stamp on the envelope with small pretty font.

It's invitation for an interview but doesn't say for what job. I assume it's related to my second job.

I get to NY and to the building. I'm waiting for the HR person and I ask a few people in offices where to go. I end up in a conference room and they treat me as already hired. I'm suppose to replace a guy who's job was to collect text from others, put it in right format and print a small book from it. I hear he was taking his sweet time on it and people were getting impatient. I'm taking notes while trying to figure out best time to tell them that I was not hired yet, haha.

Somebody is taking me to HR. I had a feeling they are not rushing to take me there for some reason. This guy taking me there has a severe limp and is almost falling over, has to hold on to rail and we are going slowly. Some starcases have a missing step, but they tell me to just use some small extrusion to step on instead. I walk down on same starwell later but this time I'm coming down on it.

It's time to go and see the boss. We are walking by a hallway and some rooms that are completely flooded by clear water. Some girl is asking me if I can snorkle because we have to go through there to bosses office and she giggles with others like that s an awesome joke and feature they have.

We get to the other side and enter a cave like semi-large room. As I'm walking down the stairs chiseled into the stone, I see animals without cages, but somehow restrained, maybe a chain. There is a tiger like creature on my left at the bottom of the stairs, crocodile on the right, some colorful flat tale beaver type of creature straight ahead and an alligator at the door my guide is opening. I'm saying "noooooo" "I don't want to go throught the door where you just almost stepped on an alligator. I'm not scared but I have a feeling this is all not right and anything can happen.

Suddenly there is a fire. They call on a walkie-talkie for someone to come and help. Fire is spreading with lightning speed. I look above and there are fire balls rooling and now they are in front of me too, just below the low stone ceiling. It's getting hot and no matter where I turn, there is really no way out. I think this is it.

Then my guide says we can try and get out into the salt mines. She punches in a code into the control panel at the door, but code is not correct. She tries many times till the door opens and we get out.
