    1. Eggs Benedict, bland 90s music, and narrative versus command

      by , 02-13-2015 at 10:35 PM
Circumstances have caused a woman to temporarily move in with me; we're not romantically entangled in any way. At the moment I'm cooking breakfast and she's sitting at the table - she's asked for eggs benedict. I'm mentioning some gadget that was around in the 50s for cooking breakfast that I'd liked, I don't know why they don't make that one anymore.

As we're talking, at some point I make a reference to something else that had happened in the 50s, and she gets the reference and responds as if she was also there. The character side of me doesn't take notice of this, but the dreamer side of me finds it odd that she got that reference - I take this as an indication that she's also, if not immortal, at least significantly older than her appearance. It's also clear that she knows I'm not human, though the character side of me doesn't know she knows.

When I bring the food to the table, I say something to her and she responds with yes, father, and then immediately looks embarrassed. The character side of me takes it as a joke in response to what I'd just said to her - but the dreamer side of me is thinking, that explains it.

I'm dancing with a different woman in my apartment. She's got short black hair in this 20s finger wave look, deliberately trying to recreate that look from the past, but this is the 1990s, and she's mortal. The dreamer side of me thinks of the song we're listening to as 'bland, inoffensive 90s romance music.' She's describing some kind of dull pain that lasts for weeks on end, and asks if I can imagine living like that, expecting the answer to be no. I have, actually. I try to describe the actual sensation without being specific about the setting, but she figures it out immediately and gets excited: "The Inquisition? You were there?" She always gets excited about these big name historical events she's read about, and they're never the parts worth remembering.

      (Woke up. Back to sleep.)

Someone of no immediately identifiable gender, who has been on the road for a very long time, parks their truck outside my IRL home and starts to eat lunch, clearly believing that no one is around here during the daytime. When they see me watching them from the window they start to leave, but I stop them, telling them I don't mind them stopping here.

Unfortunately, the dream apparently took that as an open invitation. While I'm outside talking to them, a great deal of people walk into the house - a married couple under the misimpression that it's theirs now and all their relatives. When I confront them they quickly accept that an error has been made, but they still keep standing around in the house. Telling them to get out does nothing.

So I rephrase, framing it as a narrative instead of a command. "And the people walked out of the house."

And giving no indication that they've heard me, as if it's their own idea, they all turn and start making their way out of the house.
I'm pleased by how easy and effective that was compared to trying to control through commands - admittedly I hadn't put any mental force behind the command here, but there wasn't any mental effort involved in the narrative approach either. They're moving more slowly than I'd like, so I continue narrating. "It's a beautiful day, so they all decided to go outside." I'm curious whether the weather will respond to that - it doesn't seem to, but then it was decent weather to begin with. They're all outside now, but they're milling around outside the door. "They all decided to go to the park to catch up with their relatives." They start moving toward the road, and the women closest to me have started discussing some cousin they haven't seen in a while. This is really wonderfully effective, I'll have to remember that in the future.
    2. Lucid Dream and Fragment

      by , 02-13-2015 at 10:12 PM
Before I start this particular journal, I haven't quit again, I was just loaded with so much homework that I couldn't touch my laptop for two weeks. I decided to buckled down and finish off everything, it was especially painful to not record any dreams this week because for some reason I was having a lucid dream every second night. The dreams were really short though and it seemed like I was being kicked out of the dream when I became Lucid. Last night however, I managed to finally stabilise the dream and actually enjoy myself for a little bit. I'm also going to add another colour for semi-lucidity because I got myself into a really weird situation while semi-lucid.

      Semi-Lucid
      Lucid

      Fragment:
I was infiltrating a building in hopes to gather some information about an enemy company. I was climbing floor after floor and sneaking past, or killing everyone to progress. I found my way to the top and found a glass container which I opened. I saw the hulk in the contianer and started to run. After a memory gap I was at the bottom floor and Bruce Banner was blocking my exit, there was an explosion and a huge piece of rubble hit him across the head. He began turing into the hulk and I knew I had to get out quickly, I ran up to him and punched him multiple times but he just grabbed me and threw me back. I grabbed ametal rod and hit him with that but it just made him angrier. He threw back his head and screamed and I took the chance to get out. The dream ended there.

I was at my school and Lucid for no particular reason, I prepared for everything to go blurry and wake me up but I didn't, in fact, everything became crystal clear and I saw a large group of people huddled by some lockers, I walked towards them but they began to disperse and break of into smaller groups, there were alot of people and I decided I would try to summon J. I tried my dream voice out and it seemed slightly muted but it sounded like me for the most part. I called out to J and turned around and she was there, I ran up to her to say hi but she looked disinterested and walked away. I decided to look for some of my other friends and found them at my locker talking. I walked up to I and asked if he wanted to hear something awesome, he said yes and I told him that he was in my lucid dream. He looked amazed and I decided to do something else. I walked back to the large group and looked towards the gates, I decided to summon an army and sure enough, an army of man sized flies flew out from the horizon and landed in the carpark. I ran towards them and decided I wanted to fly, my first jump failed, my second jump was higher than the first, my third jump was low gravity and I put my arms out to fly but came back to earth, I jumped higher than humanly possible and reached the fly-men before I hit the ground. I drop-kicked one of them and jumped again, punching another in the process. There was a memory gap and I found myself in a library giving a presentation on holograms to the fly people, the hologram looked awesome and I was playing around with it before I woke up.

I'm really happy with that, it was so much fun and I have no clue how I did it when I've been really busy over the past two weeks. I won't be able to do anything over the week now as I'm too busy but I can update my dream journal on the weekend.

      Non-Lucid
      Duration: Fragment

Seems I was working in some kind of an office with big windows and glassy walls. It was night. I only remember that I helped a fellow employee to go to the bathroom. He was sick and I was carrying him, with his arm over my neck. The bathroom was very bright and lengthy, with the urinols on the left side and lots of sinks on the right side. I was in doubt if I would go with him for a toilet or to a sink, but he threw up to the ground, it was too late. That's all.

    6. Morning - Non-lucid - The Carnival

by , 02-13-2015 at 05:59 PM (Dream Dream Dream Dream Dream Dream)
      i'm BAAAAAAAACK
so I told myself I'd get back on track and write my next dream down on here, so naturally the dream I had that night was super clear and vivid... uh and sorry if my writing isn't too lucid (PUNS!!!) right now, 'cause I'm recovering from being sick. it's taking fricking ages, it's been like, 6 days. uuurgh.

      Dreamin' 'Bout a Theme Park
So the dream started off with me at some sort of in-between stage. Supposedly I was at college with Jess, but it looked more like some kind of rocky beach area at night. Rather atmospheric. There was also something about a game I was playing with her, like chinese checkers or something. Also I was trying to figure out how much money to take to the theme park, taking into account that I really wasn't supposed to be spending much money at all at this point (IWL considerations).

So I settled on a decent amount, some other things happened, and then I was at the theme park. It was still night, and I was a bit disappointed to see that some of the rides had already been shut down. The ferris wheel, for instance, had been extended into the air to put it out of anyone's reach. I didn't want to go on the roller coaster or any other particularly vigorous rides, so I was pretty much limited to the quarter toy vending machine things that were fricking everywhere. That said, I still didn't have that much money.

So I wandered around looking for something I was willing to spend a measly few quarters on, and found Ben in a back room. This was kind of interesting, 'cause when Ben appeared in my dreams before he would tend to follow me around pretty closely, but this time he was just his own guy, off doing his own thing. So I thought that was pretty cool in a character-development kind of way. Yayyy.

At some point I started flat-out just, seeing what I could get away with in order to save money. Like huh, here are some candies lying out, the carnival operators aren't around, and mom's pretty okay with it... guess I can grab one. But then at some point they came back (they were more like game devs than carnival operators) and were a bit annoyed.

And then I found this super tiny snake so I caught it and it bit me like a bunch of times. I was like I'm pretty sure this snake isn't poisonous so it's fine, but I could feel the sting each time and see the tiny bloody cuts it was leaving on my fingers.

And man I forget what else. Sorry I'm being a super lazy nerd about this. But I'm gonna stick with it so it should get better. It was suuuper vivid compared to all the other ones I've had lately (and by lately I mean the past few months); that was the main thing.

    7. Living Spaces

by , 02-13-2015 at 12:06 PM (The Dream Magic Experiment)
I was in my hometown, lying face down on the sofa in the living room of the house. The same place where I had an OBE of sorts before. It's cold and it's raining outside. Grey clouds. I was nude.

Outside the gate, I saw someone sitting with her back to the gate. There are some baskets with her. Fruits? Clothing? I called out, wondering if it's Sunshine or Blossom. She faced the gate and I saw it's Sunshine. I gave her instructions to go "up." I hurried to look for clothes and went out the door.

When I went out, I was in the hallway of a building. A hotel? Condo unit? I went to the elevators but worried I might miss her on her way up. I passed by some people who seem to be heading or waiting for a meeting. I saw Rex and said hi.
    8. Steam powered bus, tunnel ,game development

      by , 02-13-2015 at 10:03 AM (Snehk's Dreamlands)
      First dream

I was in Warsaw with my older sister. We were waiting for a bus to home. In the meanwhile I wanted to get a PC game, but I couldn't find it anywhere. After a while the bus appeared, and the drvier was a biology teacher from my old school. He was sitting in an armchair on the bus's roof, and steering it. We went inside the bus. It looked like a submarine inside.

      Second dream

I was going for a walk from my home. I was wearing sport trousers, a hoodie and sport shoes. I walked from my backyard into a tunnel carved in ground. It was just a few steps and I've found myself in the suburb. I decided to go back. I met my brother and my pal in the backyard. It was midnight then. We were watching TV show on gigantic TV screen, it was taller and wider than my home.

      Third dream

I was lying on my bed, when my younger sister entered the room and said I want to make a video game! I replied Uhm.... OK. What would you name it? She said I don't know. I quickly told And what about the games theme? She didn't replied so I started to help her. Maybe Rivers of Fire, or Rivers of Gold would fit? She was considering those names for a while and said No, we would need a different name. I asked about the genre and she said First person shooter. Suddenly my perspective changed, and I saw an arabian investor that wanted to develop his game. He ran into some kind of government building, and started shooting with shotgun from one of the windows shouting That's how my game would look like! It all happened as a weird guy was writing down all the ideas for the game.
    9. Centipede Ant and Melting Moth

      by , 02-13-2015 at 08:13 AM
Morning of February 13, 2015. Friday.

My family and I as we are now are living in an unfamiliar house in my dream (which seems to be a unique composite integrating features of our present home on W Street with Cubitis) in one of my lifelong recurring “strange bugs” dreams (but always unique with regard to appearance, this one being more unusual in nature).

Firstly, some sort of weird large black ant gets into our house from near the top of the wall, but it is not at all like a real ant. Instead of having three body sections (head, thorax, and abdomen), it has at least nine or more - being vaguely reminiscent of a centipede. Even though it has no visible wings, it is somehow able to fly and hover (vaguely reminiscent of the motions of a hummingbird). When I look back towards the wall from across the room, it is hovering near the wall with a long black proboscis that is at least twice as long as its body. It seems to be “feeding” from the wall (at human shoulder height) somehow. It seems very strange to me but I am not sure if it is dangerous.

Later, in a different room (that seems a little like our present kitchen on W Street yet also seems to have the feeling of the living room in Cubitis with respect to the layout concerning the room I come out of), I talk to my wife Zsuzsanna about unusual insects getting into our house.

I notice a large silver moth lying on the floor, apparently dead (though not crushed or noticeably injured). Its wings are very shiny - almost as much as aluminum foil. I notice a small line of black oil near it, extending out from its head, which is apparently the remains of its very long but seemingly “melted” proboscis. I am absentmindedly associating it with the weird ant as if I think it might be the same insect somehow (even though it looks nothing like it) or at least is somehow connected. At this point my dream slowly fades.

Here, the waking transition is clearly “moon dissolution” (and is related to circadian rhythms in a similar manner as typical sunrise metaphors) which does not seem as common in dreams as I would expect. The moth is silver (a downsized moon as well as the association with “moth” and “month”) and it is melting and is also a “failed flight” element (which is very common in my dreams and simply represents the waking process.) The black oil could easily represent the “melting” (or fading) nighttime (again, relevant to circadian rhythms) although black is associated with the state just prior to waking (or just prior to dreaming).

    10. Six Sharpeners OST + DA + DILD

by , 02-12-2015 at 11:38 PM (Inner World حلم Gamma Waves)
After being relentlessly attacked by mummies, I manage to escape and find 3 people outside. I ask them if they could help me? They all agreed as the one guy check for any further assistance. The other woman check in to the apartment I recently escape from. That person soon confirm that there was some sort of monster lurking around. That's when she ask me if I was beaten anywhere by it? I said yes and pointed to all the spots I felt were beaten by it. I also said that I was beginning to feel dizzy and that their voices were growing faint.

We all begin walking so I could find a hospital to recover in. I soon find myself waking up from a hospital bed. I must've passed out on the way here. As I re-evaluate what happened to me. I become lucid. My vision was a bit distorted though. I soon notice that the person who help me was sitting down near by. Once she was aware that I was awake, she showed a picture claiming that I was the young toddler in it. She then ask me do I see another person in the picture? I agreed and could see the person on the far right. She then ask me if it was a man or a woman?

I got sunk in to the device she was using to get a closer look. I stare at the person face to confirm that the person in the photo was a man. That's when I woke up. Lucidity time: 23 seconds

    13. Plants and coffee tables don't look good in my rum

      by , 02-12-2015 at 12:24 PM
I remember walking into my room, and there were 3 tables all making a U around my chair. The tables were coffee tables and were placed behind my chair and on the sides of it. There was just enough space to walk through the corners, there were plants on the tables, and I knew my mom had put them in there along with the tables, I got annoyed and said "Moooom" as I walked out of the room carrying the plants and putting them on other tables in the living room.

    14. Explosion, night osbservations

      by , 02-12-2015 at 09:34 AM (Snehk's Dreamlands)
I was walking down the street in a business sector of the city. Near one of skyscrapers was alley locked with gate protected by key code. No one knew the key code, even owners of the skyscraper. I decided to somehow break it down, and I did it. The alley led to industrial area, into a house of some family preparing for the end of the world. I went out and took a bus back to home. In the midnight I went out with my younger sister. We were watching the night sky, looking at the stars and observating the area surrounding our home. Next day I drove to the same plac, and saw construction workers planting explosives at the gate. Owners of skyscraper wanted to know what's beyond that gate. When the workers ran to safety zone and detonated explosives. The fire was raging. I ran closer to the gate and gave a horrifying scream. This brought their attention, one of the workers shouted The margins are burning! They all ran there to stop the fire.
    15. Blind as a Batman

      by , 02-12-2015 at 08:12 AM
Morning of February 12, 2015. Thursday.

It seems I “am” Batman, but not the “real” Batman - perhaps I am his stand-in while he is on vacation. There is not much to this dream - it has no plot; only a couple rather ridiculous scenes - one incoherent scene involving people I knew on King Street. I never catch on that I am dreaming. I am living with my family where we are now in real life (on W Street) in most parts of my dream, though again, there are also points at which I seem to be in La Crosse flying around.

For a time, I am wearing really unsuitable and ill-fitting uncomfortable clothes as I am flying around mostly at night (for example, a light-colored flannel shirt that is too baggy and long).

There is a Batman costume in my backyard near the shed near the final part of my dream. Oddly, there are only two sections to it; the bottom (boots and “pants”) and the top (which somehow comes down over my arms and includes the Batman head. First, I put the boots on with no difficulty, the sense of touch being slightly enhanced. It feels fairly nice. However, when the top of the outfit is complete on me, I realize that the mask has only very small horizontal slits which I can barely see through. In fact, I notice three slits on each side at different levels. None are exactly where the eye-holes should be so I have to adjust the full-head mask several times to see anything at all. It is still mostly like only seeing a thin horizontal bar of color representing the backyard (though I can see just a little out of the other two slits on each side - only at times). Still, I fly off into the air, not remembering in-dream that Batman does not fly in the manner of Superman. From here, my dream eventually fades.

Perhaps this dream is a reminder that, even though you can be anything and do anything in dreams (including being bodiless), perhaps weighing yourself down with too much costuming and deliberately blocking your vision is not the best route. Why would one need to wear a mask anyway? One can be his true self in a dream.
