      Non-dream Dream Lucid Fragments
Heh, another part lucid, although it was strangely dark.

I was in a bigger and more sinister version of my house, in my living room to be exact. I looked around and noticed the darkness was only around me. I looked down at myself and I was a strange ghast-like creature. I had some strange looking pistol gun as well. There was creepy music playing that was the creepyest thing I had ever heard. I tried to remind myself that I was probably the only thing to fear in this house and looked around. I went upstairs and explored. I heard a door banging. I opened it and saw a scared Odie and Garfeild. I thought it strange, but shrugged it off. I asked them what they were doing in my house and they said it was theirs. I told them they had nothing to fear and lead them outside. I then noticed that there was a 1st person style format. A button in the corner said Menu. I willed it to open and saw a skills map. The first said that in order to gain other skills, I had to possess someone. It also said that I would die unless this happened before daylight. I thought about it and decided that I would posess Garfield. As soon as Odie turned around I tried to do so. But the second I tried the dream shifted. Everywhere I looked there were dark creatures. I willed the dream to change. Then I thought, "Wait, I just said dream, right? This is a dream!" And then with more force I changed the surrounding. I was in my living room again but it was a bit lighter. I went past my kitchen and to my dining room. My brother and a girl I like were there. I said to myself that she must like me in order to be here (passive control) and so would follow me. I walked upstairs and found I was right. I went to my TV and tested if it worked. It didn't. The girl took went to take a shower and I attempted to turn into a dragon. I only got the claws. I lost lucidity after a couple of tries. I had a false awakening and for the rest of the dream I did all the things I normally did to pack for school.

      NON-DREAM DREAM LUCID

This is one time travel - rewind semi-lucid dreams I used to have as a child. I am realizing I am not awake, but dreaming, but without thinking straight. I got into trouble and rewinded the dream.

Something happened in the dream previously that I could not recall, but I was sent to a room where some sonic traveling capsules could be ridden. This room was dark and the walls were made out of iron. I was with two guys that wanted to kick my butt for some reason. They pushed me inside one of these capsules, but I could scape. I witnessed how the capsule left and high speed. These guys told me that now I had to go to the sewers to get my butt out of there. They closed a huge metallic hatched and I was on my own.

I decided to go down the pipe were the capsule was sent, until I got to the sewers. There were people living there, stores and even lamps. I walked through various stores and I saw some plants that were inside like small cages. One of them moved and said, "Muuuuuuuuuuuuu"

I met with a friend and I saw some escalators that lead to a fancy department store. So we went up to see it.

I figured I could dress up with a fancy suit and still it so I could bring it to waking life. I felt if I stole something from the dreamworld it would be all right. I told to my friend, but some security guard noticed so I passed.

I explored the store and at the exit, there was a high end car dealership. They had for sale a Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake:

However, it was in improved one. It was blue like the photo but it was half big, like sliced in two. Instead of a trunk, the car had two big ailerons. It looked like a plane on its back. The salesmen approached at me and offered assistance. I was taking a look of the car on the inside. It was not finished, as I could saw cables and everything. The car was capable of reaching 400 miles per hour.

Suddenly, the car started moving alone, so I grabbed the steer wheel. The guy from the dealership started the engine and hit the gas remotely. I started to drive on small roads. The car accelerated extremely fast. I started to do some speeding. I entered a highway and I was amazed that the mustang went from 0 to 80 miles per hour in one second. I started to speed at extreme speed on the freeway until a van changed lanes abruptly and hit me. I started to spin, hitting other cars and fell to a river. I was worried about totaling this car, as it was not mine.

I realized I better rewinded the dream. I closed my eyes and focused really hard in getting out of there. I succeed and appeared at the beginning of the dream. I decided to take the capsule from the very beginning instead of avoiding it
(If I did not, I would re-dream the whole thing exaclty... happened several times when I was a kid) Something about a cat woke me up.
    3. Catchup Post for May 21-22

by , 05-23-2011 at 03:27 AM (The Lab Notebook)
Non-lucid, Lucid, [Commentary made while awake]

      Night of May 20-21

I'm in the upstairs bedroom of a house. Built into one wall is the entrance to a long slide, which I go down. The first part of the slide is plastic, tubular, and constantly curves back and forth in random directions. After a bit, the plastic tube slide connects smoothly to another section of slide, this one made of polished, light-colored wood. The wooden portion of the slide turns through 90-degree corners in between straight runs, and it goes through a series of spacious rooms that are made of the same light wood.

Later, I'm back in the upstairs bedroom again, with some other people who want to go down the slide. I describe to them what the slide is like.

      Night of May 21-22

I'm in the main hallway that runs through the middle of my church. There are tables lined up in the hallway, and I'm sitting behind one of them. Other people from my church are sitting behind the other tables. We're all talking to each other about the church activities we do. [This was all day residue. This dream was essentially a replay of what I had just done that day in real life at our church's spring talent festival. I count this dream as further evidence in favor of the hypothesis that dreams are produced when your brain is recording the day's experiences in long-term memory.]

[I had a lucid dream in the next cycle, but I've forgotten a lot of the details. The following paragraphs contain what I do remember of that dream.]

I realize I'm dreaming and think, Oh, cool. I'm dreaming. That means I can do anything I want to. I find myself in a rectangular room in which all the walls are full-length mirrors. I look at my reflection and notice that I have my long hair and bangs again [which was the hairstyle I had for most of my life until last October], and that my bangs are chopped off all unevenly, with little sections that end in different lengths. I either exercise, or just think about, two or more of the dream abilities I've already learned [I'm not really sure, because I don't remember this part very well], and then I decide to try an ability I've never tried before: changing my appearance.

I close my eyes and visualize what I want my reflection in the mirror to look like when I open them: I want to see myself as an old woman, with my hair gray, but still long. I open my eyes, only to find that it didn't work. My reflection still looks the same as it did before. The thought of trying to shapeshift into some kind of animal crosses my mind, but I decide not to because no animal that I particularly want to turn into comes to mind.

[Different dream, later in the night.] I'm visiting my boss's house, which is huge and very nice. My boss gives me a very kind, generous compliment about my after-school teaching. He says something along the lines of, “You're a great teacher. You treat them like people.” [“Them” meaning the students.] I'm very flattered.

I go outside my boss's house. There is a small, private jet parked outside. A group of people I know and I are about to leave on a trip somewhere in the jet. Before we leave, I decide to go and use the portable restrooms that are located on the opposite side of the grassy field I'm in. One of them is a standard portable restroom, and the other is bigger and wider; it was removed from a commercial airplane, I know.
[It made sense in the dream.] I can't get into either of them, though, because my mom is blocking the entrance to them. She tells me that I can't come in because P. is in the restroom right now.

      -------------------------------------------
      Side notes:

In real life, I have two jobs, each with a different boss. The boss who appeared in my dream was not the one from my after-school teaching job; he was the one from my office job. It makes sense, though, in a sideways kind of way, that Office Boss would compliment me on my teaching in a dream. Two things that I know I really, deeply want are for my teaching efforts to be appreciated and for Office Boss to like me. I think my mind just combined the two desires and had Office Boss express appreciation of my teaching. (Office Boss has seen me teach in real life, but only once.) This dream, and the one I had on March 26 about being hired for that one job (which I did not get hired for in real life, by the way), lead me to this observation: Sometimes, when you really, really want something to happen in real life, your mind will grant you your desire in a dream.

Cool, my first attempt at forging. It was unsuccessful, but I'm not really surprised. I'm looking forward to continuing to work on that skill.

I begin to understand why we have a thread devoted to pictures “for daily lucid inspiration.” Lucid dreaming is beginning to feel routine and unremarkable, even when I'm in a lucid dream. It felt that way in this one. My initial excitement about the phenomenon has worn off. Now I see why one would want a source of daily lucid inspiration.
    4. Lucid Thrift Store + Dylan Returns

by , 05-23-2011 at 12:55 AM (The book of mars)
      Lucid Thrift Store

I'm in some kind of thrift store, which is a regular living room but with a rack of clothes. I see Heather's new clothes she bought for her birthday the other day (in real life) on top of the rack.

She wouldn't donate those, I think. I am instantly lucid. The dream is difficult to connect with for whatever reason. I rub my hands together for stability but realize I have mittens on. I remove them and try again.

I sit on the floor for a moment, thinking of what I want to do in a dream. I try to recall my goals.

An eastern women is at a cash register and is doing a little dance. It is very simple but she acts very proud, as if it took her months to perfect it. She looks over to me and offers me acid after she's done.

I close my eyes and she places a tab of acid on my tongue (I "know" this happened, but didn't actually feel it occur.) Suddenly my body is knocked from a sitting position to my head on the floor. I lose lucidity.

The dream spins into a different room, a different scene:

      Dylan Returns

I am in my ex-beloved's living room (not a replica of real life at all). It has very nice hardwood floors which I admire. We are hanging out, catching up. He offers to bring me to the ATM with him or something.

We are in his car. I ask if he has his license and he responds that he doesn't. He goes through the ATM and we drive somewhere else.

We are now on a beach. He is tattooing Bart Simpson onto my foot. I look at my foot a lot and think of how sketchy the lines are and if I'll regret this.

I have a discussion with someone else on the beach of how stupid water shoes are.
    5. Two fronts to a fridge

      by , 05-22-2011 at 09:44 PM
      Nonlucid, Lucid, Partially lucid

May 20, '11: I am in a parking lot. Someone is trying to use ESP or telekinesis. I star floating around and say that I am using telekinesis to find my car.
I become lucid and fly away. I find the refrigerator, sort of in the kitchen, but also outside. I decide to look at the back of the fridge to compare with waking reality
The back looks the same as the front.

    6. Try to Summon Dream Guide

      by , 05-22-2011 at 09:38 PM
      Nonlucid, Lucid, Partially lucid

May 17, 2011: I am riding a bicycle up the driveway towards the house. I sort of push the bike up the hill, and also sort of riding at the same time, beside the bike.
A large truck drives by and almost hits me. I turn around and throw the bike at the truck.
I become lucid, I'm not sure if before or after throwing the bike.

Aware that I'm dreaming, I remember my goal to summon my dream guide. I see my car and decide to have her appear inside it.
I made up some magic chant/song as I stand beside the car. I have a blanket that I am also trying to get rid of, but it is tangled around me.
I open the car door, and there is no one in there. I go around to the other side, state my intention and open the door. Still nothing.

Then I call up to the sky, asking why she won't appear for me. I get no response.
I feel the dream fading but I stop myself from waking by rubbing my hands together. Then I go inside the house. I see a mirror and flip onto my back.

There is no one around. I wish I could be somewhere interesting. Then I eat some food and wake up a bit.

In the kitchen, Dad asks me where a car part is. He says it is called a "boot"-something, because it is shaped like a boot. I tell him I know what part he is talking about, but I haven't seen it recently. I tell him it has probably been moved around with the storage.

I realize I am dreaming again and I think the conversation with Dad probably didn't happen.
I am still in the kitchen. Thirsty, I pick up a glass of raspberry ginger ale and have a drink. It tastes good and refreshing.

There is a man sitting at a computer in a room, listening to a tape recording of some other man talking. I ask him what he is listening to. I can't understand it. I think I know who he is, but when he turns around he has a really big nose.
He pulls out a blue plastic gun to shoot me. I'm like "Ok, fine," and I leave.
In the next room, there are three women studying some kind of science. On of them seems familiar, but I'm not sure if from TV or someone I knew.
She has a big fake horse in her room. I know it is fake, but I ask if it is real anyway. She says no. I tell her she probably can't keep a real horse in here, joking. Then I wake up.

    7. First Chance at Lucid, but fails.

by , 05-22-2011 at 08:16 PM (The Escapades of FireDevil)
I was in a certain shop, in this shop we talked about the latest in technology and how we could use it to our advantage. It was some shop in a mall, I don't remeber what we were talking about, all I remember is our instructor being extremley laid back when we were supposed to be taught. Then the dream shifted.

I appeared in my room, it look almost exactly the same, UNTIL. I looked out my window and I saw that their was a highway connected to my roof. All the cars were dropping off at the end of my roof. Luckily, I practice a lot of dreaming type excersices in my room, like asking myself if I am dreaming, otherwise I probably wouldn't have recognized this moment. I thought this was very odd and I instantly knew I was dreaming. Here comes the fail part. I didn't bother stabilizing the dream and went straight to creating portals. The portal did ot work and the dream instantly faded and I woke up.

      NON-DREAM DREAM LUCID

I saw the horizon with a lot of tall buildings. all the sudden this vivid picture was on an old TV in bad quality. i am in a kitchen with this big big window and a lot of kids. i do a reality check and i go lucid

I am in the middle of a cooking class. the kids teacher isnt around so i decided to have some fun with them and mess with them. i said "Hey kids! wanna see something magical?" and they are like "YEAA YEAA!" so i do the "finger through palm" kinda thing. the kids is standing there looking at me in awe while they begin trying the trick themself.

I decided to try walk through the wall, but not with any success.

I look out the big window and i see some F-16 starting bombing the school. Apperently one of the kids is on the "most wanted" teorrist list. i go outside to find that kids dad and we talk about things. after that i woke up

    9. 5/22/2011 - This is....a funny one

by , 05-22-2011 at 02:02 PM (In Medias Res)
Note: These DCs are real people, but the names have been changed to protect privacy.

It started off non-lucid in a pool/chill room of some sort. Banana was saying some suggestive things about Rolleyes and I again. Shadewink, sitting next to a fireplace, heard it and asked, "Alex's in love?" I sat down next to him and said no, but not emphatically, to show I was in love with him. We talked for a bit about love. I forgot the specifics. It felt so real.

      [scene missing]

I somehow became the babysitter in a family with a 5-year-old serial killer lunatic boy. It was exactly like a horror movie. I was alone in the house, then I turned and saw the boy grinning with a dagger in his hand. I had to keep a lookout for him, and he always appeared where I wasn't looking. I managed to dodge all his attacks. On the last attack I dodged, he pulled out a fork next, and somehow I made him land in the laundry hamper, which I pushed out a door that I then closed.

Then the family came home. The two daughters wanted to take a shower, and I joined them. I saw the eldest had big breasts and she was taking small, paper-thin supplements, so I asked, "Does it work?" She said yes. I asked if I could have some. (The younger daughter said "No!" as if not wanting me to change who I am.) She told me I'd be able to get them in a mystical garden, which was shown to me. But first, I had to return in a time machine to a time in the middle of things - in medias res.

So I then returned to the pool/chill room. Without me (and Banana, or Shadewink, it seemed), they'd gotten Dennis, who was passed out on the floor anyway. I went into the next room; the guys were sitting n a circle, and greeted me. Victor asked where I was going. I told them I was going to "buy something" in Chinese. Then I elaborated: "I'm going to buy something called Fifty Basket (a drink shop)". And I ran out of there. I knew with that lame excuse some of them would be bound to chase after me, and so I ran. I ran over the familiar swimming pool & resort landscape from my unwritten dream on 5/21. My adrenaline surged, and I was losing the dream. I was able to salvage it, however.

Finally I vaulted a fence and at the other side, Banana came over with a bundle of the pink supplements in the shape of a lotus. He told me, "You do know this is just a dream, right?" I replied wistfully: "Can't I take this into the real world?"
But here I'd already become lucid. I wanted to stay lucid for longer. I walked about on the now empty and sandy place, changing night into day. I lay on the ground and tried to change the medium I was lying on, to no success. I then decided to have random sex, so I changed the dreamscape into a beach with more people. Most of the people resisted my advances, so eventually I grabbed a green electric toothbrush and went for it. The feeling was intense. I could hear a voice saying, "This is what is meant by libertarian sex(uality)", and "99.9%" of something. Then I came violently, already half awake and feeling myself pulse in bed, and woke up.

    10. This is a Dream, I am Dreaming

      by , 05-22-2011 at 01:58 PM
My new boss is leading me through endless gray corridors. He is talking about the company and its history but I'm not really listening. Something is amiss and I can feel it, but I can't tell what it is. After a bit I notice that we have been walking down this corridor for a very long time without any doors. I ask him, Where are we going, and he seems surprised by my question. As he stammers, I peer at him. I can tell that he's been caught without an answer. Now I think to do a reality check. I hold my nose and take a short breath. He gets annoyed with me and says "just what do you think you are doing?"

I reply, "this is a dream, I am dreaming." His face glows red as he demands to know how I think I know this. I say "watch" as I hold my nose and when I start to take another breath…

Dream 1: Semi Lucid! Was in friends house and went outside realising something was not right. Then became lucid but was distracted by lights in the sky. These became Martian ships that came down. When they beamed me up they asked me to make their facebook page and so awed was I by this that I lost lucidity.

Dream2: Another Alien invasion, quite fast paced. Don't remember much.

      Dreams in short bursts.

Dream 3: Very vivid dream of walking form a monastary up an exotic mountain. Interactions with DC's were realistic and rewarding. Scenery vivid and great. Quite a long hike. Then ended up transitioning to dublin for all of us to get cash out and sleep in a tent. Then back to exotic location were me an my wife picked up a violent goth gamer girl. I then went to an apartment and beat up a super hero.

    12. You are Dragon

      by
      Hyu
      , 05-22-2011 at 01:19 AM (Hyu's Adventures)
      I'm on Teraluna.
Yuya is teaching me about dream bubbles, or temporary dimensions like she calls them.
We've done this before, but this time she's telling me how to create a completely customized bubble, with my own rules at will.
She's explaining that using the 'natural bubble' we spawn in when we dream requires little to no energy, but it is also impossible to fully control.
We can definitely influence it to a great extend, but the control is limited.

Creating a custom bubble whilst in the dream plane requires a lot of energy, and it is fully customizable, but unfortunately they are very small and somewhat limited in features.
You can create a simple room, and apply some rules to this room, but you cannot create a beautiful outdoors environment for example.

The idea is quite basic, create a custom room and apply the rule "create gradually more powerful monsters attacking myself".
According to Yuya this is a rather high level training method, and quite effective.
Not only do you have to stay alive, but you also have to keep the dream bubble up, which requires a high degree of concentration.
Maintaining such concentration during a battle is very hard.

I don't understand how it works, but I somehow understand how to do it.
It's quite complex and requires delicate energy manipulation and a lot of willpower.
You have to fade into the new dimension at the same time you're creating it, it is a very weird and confusing experience.
My first few attempts are quite unstable, and the dream bubble breaks twice.
When it breaks I simply fall out from the spot I created it.
But then I get a feeling for it, and suddenly it seems very straightforward.

I am fighting waves of increasingly more powerful monsters, using my dragonic powers and my katana.
Even though the monsters are very realistic, there is no blood or anything.
When I slice through one, it simply fades away.

I'm trying to push myself to the limit, to see how powerful I truly am.
My own aura causes massive vibrations throughout my body, it feels great!
I move at an incredible speed, and the heat of my aura leaves burning trails behind me.
The dragon tattoo is fully grown and glowing in a bright blue.
Even though when I fully focus, time progresses so slovely I can time every one of my movements perfectly,
I still occasionally manage to move so quickly that my mind cannot keep up.
      It's a fantastic experience.

I'm at my limit, I cannot keep up with the monsters anymore, at this point I'm just reacting instinctively to stay alive.
One scorpion like monster manages to pierce me with its tail.
It feels really cold for a split second, then the dimension disappears and I fall back to Teraluna.
I check my chest, I haven't hurt myself, this really is an amazing way to train!

      ... I'm now at Yuya's place.
I'm exhausted and we go to bed... I feel myself falling asleep very quickly...
I know this feeling from waking life. The numbness of my body, the heavy blanket feeling, the lightheadedness, I'm beginning to dream!

I am floating through darkness. I do not have a body, I am pure energy.
A scene starts to form around me.
The ground is volcanic, there are small crates everywhere and colorful plasma is streaming out of them.
There are a few lava streams as well.
I realize I cannot be on a planet. The horizon has no curvature and there is no atmosphere, I can see directly into space even though it is daytime.
Somehow this place feels oddly familiar.

I feel a presence behind myself and turn around, I am still floating in the air.
A white and blue dragon approaches me. He is very beautiful but also very fear inducing.
He has two pairs of insanely large Wings, and two tails with white blades on them.
He stops right in front of me, gazing into my eyes.
His voice is deep and so strong it is resonating in my body.

      "You are Dragon!"

I am surprised by this statement, even though people call me Dragon all the time.
I always figured I was somehow using dragonic abilities, but I never considered being an actual dragon.

"I use the powers of a Dragon."
      "No. You are Dragon. Always."
"You were born Dragon. Appearances are irrelevant. You are Dragon!"
"I am here because you need to know this."
"You are near the age of waking. When you do, your powers will fully awaken."

His presence is absolutely overwhelming, I feel that whatever question I would ask would be inappropriate.

      "Thank you."
      "Remember... you are Dragon... ALWAYS."
      "Yes."

I wake up in my bed at home. I want to tell Yuya about this dream, but when I turn around I realize my mistake.
I am not on Teraluna, I am at home... I just woke up... stupid me.
I take some quick notes but then my eyes start to itch.
Rubbing my eyes, I walk to the bathroom to check in the mirror if I have something in them.

I am shocked when I see myself in the mirror. My eyes are glowing lightly... The same way Yuya's eyes do, the same way mine do when I look at myself in a mirror on Teraluna.
      What is happening???
I am Dragon... always? Shit... this can't be!
I turn around to look at my back in the mirror, searching for the dragon tattoo which I know cannot be there.
      But there it is...
It is not fully formed yet, my skin is bleeding in the spots where the dragon tattoo is in my dreams, and it is slowly being filled with color.
Holy shit... am I really a Dragon? Am I awakening?
I can't decide if I should be amazed or be worried about the consequences this would have on my future life.

But then I realize that I'm wrong.

Of course... I am still dreaming, holy shit!

I wake up again, this time for real.

A friend of mine has gotten into lucid dreaming about 2 months ago.
He's been lucid dreaming naturally before that, but only learned about induction recently.
Both his and my friends are very uncomfortable talking about dreams, so he and I talk about our dreams rather often.
He has texted me on msn before this dream, expressing that he wants to experience more "spiritual things".
Things like visiting unknown worlds and talking to "intelligent" DC's.

I'm home, programming on a project for school. Things are not going well, I'm getting all kinds of errors that don't make any sense.
I'm tired of this, I want to do something else. How awesome would it be if this was actually a dream and I could become lucid right now?
Then I inevitably realize that I have no idea how I got here, and that the code indeed makes no sense whatsoever.

I'll be damned, I am actually dreaming! sweet!

I remember the conversation I had with my friend before going to bed and decide that it would be awesome to try and visit his dreams, they are quite different from mine.
I summon my phoenix wings, search for his aura, and try to teleport to him.
The transition is not as smooth as usually, I nearly loose consciousness, but then the new scene finally appears.
The heat is strong, and I am blinded by the strong sunlight.

I investigate my surroundings. It appears that I'm at an outdoors marketplace. It is very crowded.
It reminds me of the Bazaar in Cairo, except it's completely outdoors.
They sell all kinds of items, pretty much anything you can think of, from food over household appliances to souvenirs.
I hear people speaking Arabic and English, I must be in an Arab country.

Seeing how busy everyone is is very pleasant, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by it.
It is very difficult to navigate the marketplace, it is way too crowded.
I realize that I'm getting distracted and search for my friends aura and approach it.
At first I doubt I'll be able to find him in this crowd, but his aura stands out, making it easy to track him.

The crowd clears up a bit, and I finally see him next to some shop selling handcrafted and painted household items, such as many beautiful plates.
He looks slightly different compared to waking life, but the differences are subtle.
As I approach him I notice that he seems focused on a woman browsing some clothes a few meters away from him.
I get a feeling of what he's doing. He's attracted to the woman, and he's trying to put the thought of being interested in him in her head.
      He's obviously lucid.
I've done this before... I can tell quite clearly what he's doing.

Should I intervene? I don't want to interrupt his lucid.
Err, what am I doing, he said he wanted to experience new things.
I sit on a desk belonging to the shop, right next to my friend, the woman is already approaching him.

"No wonder you aren't experiencing anything overwhelming my friend, you're being distracted by women all the time."

He turns around and looks at me very surprised. He looses focus on the woman and she goes back to browsing clothes.

"I don't blame you, some women are just irresistible."
      "No kidding..."
      "You're Hyu right?"

"Yep, you even used my nickname, how come?"
"I don't know, you told me you're called Hyu in your dreams."
      "True..."
"Fuck... this is really you isn't it?"
"Yes, I can't prove it though"
"Well, I suppose that doesn't really matter. Tell me about dreams! How to go past the limit of my imagination, how to meet dc's that seem sentient! Tell me!"

I think for a few seconds, about many things, about what to say to him, and then I suddenly know exactly what to do.
I grab a spoon from the shop we're at and hold it in front of me.

      "You've seen the matrix, right?"

I start bending the spoon around with my mind.

      "Yes! The spoon doesn't exist!"
      "Why?"
      "Huh? What do you mean?"
"Why does the spoon not exist?"
"Because it's not real. It's a projection of my mind, and because everything in my dreams is, I can control everything!"
"Right... so... how do you define reality?"
"Err... well, some time ago I would have said that whatever I can grasp with all of my senses is real, but nowadays..."
"... uuuuh man, this is hard... I'll go with everything that directly affects my waking life."

I'm positively surprised that he's thinking past his senses, but I'm not quite satisfied with his conclusion.

"So, everything you experience in waking life is real, because it directly affects you?"
"Do you agree that every action you take in waking life will change your future, the outcome of your life, regardless of how benign it seems?"

      He thinks a bit.

"Yes, any action has an infinite amount of consequences, it's the butterfly effect."
"Very good! Now, tell me friend, when you look at this spoon, when you touch it, when you bend it, does this not affect your waking life?"
      "No?"
"Does your brain not save the sensation and experience of holding this spoon? Does it not form neural pathways to remember this information?"
"Aren't many of your decisions in waking life based upon the past experiences you can access in your memories?"
"Can you really in good conscience tell me that this spoon is not real?"
"Sure, the experience of holding this spoon is very benign, but what about exploring your inner self, the experience of letting your creative mind run wild, do these things not affect your waking life?"
      "Fuck..."

I'm pretty sure he gets it, and I feel surprisingly wise telling him all of this.

"Telling yourself that the spoon is not real is a fantastic way to improve your dream control."
"But if you really want to explore the unknown and go beyond your imagination..."
"... If you want your dreams to affect you, you have to understand that they can do so."
"And you've stated yourself that every experience will ultimately affect you."

"I see... that does make sense, and I feel like this will help me, but how do I create a sentient DC?"
"Don't you see the contradiction? Creating something sentient? I think that is your problem."
"You think that everything right now is an illusion created by your own mind."
"Tell me, what are you basing this assumption on?"
"I... well... Yeah, I have no fucking clue."

"Now, I'm not telling you this spoon is not a creation of your mind, but if you want this world to affect you, to overwhelm you, you have to understand that it actually can!"
"And if you want to meet a sentient DC, you have to understand that they may actually exist."
      "Yes, I understand."

He takes the spoon from my hand and looks at it closely.

      "The spoon is real!"

We had a discussion about this today, and I told him the same things in waking life, which ended in a discussion about
how our brains are awareness factories, and what it does whilst awake and asleep.
He feels that thinking everything is an illusion and nothing affects him (which he did) was indeed holding him back.

      Dream Journal #19, May 21st 2011.

Well, slept like at 3 am last night so of course I don’t really remember any dreams. Just one dream fragment though. I remember dreaming about lucid dreaming lol I was at a party, steven was there. They were doing some other thing, and then they saw me looking at lucid dream stuff. That’s all I remember. Going to WBTB now, I shall become lucid

      edit: after WBTB

had a lucid, but the dream was very unstable, because there was just too much external noise coming from outside my house and inside my house, sigh.

the lucid started out as me walking in my school towards my friends. the environment and surroundings were very vivid, and they were also very familiar. i dream about school often. it didn’t take anything for me to become lucid- i knew i was lucid as soon as i saw everything. the dream faded as i became lucid, i let it fade. the dreamscape changed, but i was still lucid. i started to see the ceiling of my room, with the fan. first thing i did was rub my hands to stabilize the dream. it didn’t work… the dream started to fade again. it’s like the more i rubbed the more it faded. i awoke to little girls screaming like hell outside playing and a lawn mower. ugh. i tried to deild but it didnt work, so i got up and closed the window.

what was odd however was that i remembered a nonlucid dream in a lucid dream! something i did in the lucid dream (i forgot) triggered a memory, from before the WBTB same night. here’s the nonlucid:

I was living in my current house and i took my bike. I rode and i rode until i got to my neighbors house (this neighbor should have lived right next to me… but for some reason he was a block away now). I see that they trust me and my family a lot, but I go into their garage and steal a bunch of drinks. I bring them back to my house and tell my parents I got free drinks lol. After a while of doing this (like 3 times), John, my neighbor, comes over. He knows about me stealing the drinks and he tells my dad, I hear all this from the backyard eavesdropping. I get nervous, but I eventually just go up to John and say I’m sorry… I’ve had a history of stealing things in my past and its hard to overcome. lol. The dream ends there I believe.

      Short Lucid

I was walking into my garage and things seemed unstable and I had an uneasy feeling and just didn't like it at all. I really really wanted to escape somehow, to get rid of the horrible feeling I was having. Then I realized I was dreaming and was glad it was just a dream. I was thinking about how good I was getting at lucid dreaming because everything was very stable now and I wasn't getting overexcited because I was sort of used to it. I thought about what I should do, and contemplated flying and stuff but decided not to. I walked outside of the garage into the sunlight and saw some kid standing on the side of the driveway. I don't really know what got into me, but I went over to him and said "Have sex with me." and he just said "okay." I don't think we actually did it and I don't know what happened after that..

      Swings

I was in my neighborhood walking around and really wanted to go swinging. I came to a house that looked like you could cut right through the yard and get to the park with the swings, so I walked in back and saw a lady staring at me. I didn't want to look like I was intruding so I just kept walking and walking through more and more yards until finally the park came into view. There was a small swing set with some small, boring swings on it and beyond that were tons more swings, so I kept on walking until I got to the main part of the park, which turned into a neighborhood type thing, and it was completely filled with swings. But every single swing was filled up, so I kept on walking and looking for somewhere to swing. Apparently it was a new hobby for everyone, kids, adults, and even elders, to go swinging. People would stay overnight in these small house type places and try to get up early or reserve a place to swing. I think I actually stayed in one for the night, and eventually found a swing.
